    In Colombia currently many people are very interested in learning English, this was not the case in past years but now everything is so different, people discovered the importance of speaking another language, because languages are the keys to open other worlds.

      This is exactly how I feel personally as a native English only speaker, about Spanish. Ok, don't get me wrong lol I mean, as a high school student, I attempted to learn Spanish, but it didn't take 😢 😂 However, all these years later, I'm just starting to realize how interconnected a lot of languages are.. As someone once explained something to me, they are the same but different 🤷😅

    Some context, in Colombia that kind of chair is something different from a regular chair, and it's usually called "SILLÓN" not "SILLA", so it is easy to confuse it with coach or sofa

I had a great experience because I did not only learn English, but I felt like I was visiting the U.S.A due to the way the Institute was built, also the teachers taught us the culture of that country, for example the Black month history, among others. Now I wish to visit the city again to continue practicing English while I meet new people from all over the world and also learning more of their cultures. Greetings! ;)

      School doesn't teach you how a native speaker would say it. A native speaker would just say chair

    • @Yamanan.
      @Yamanan. 5 месяцев назад +5

      @@AfroKing. As a native English speaker (USA), I would call that an armchair. Specifically the one that he showed that looks like a mix between a couch and a chair. But, I would understand chair. It's just if I wasn't looking at it and you said chair I wouldn't picture it looking like that unless you explained it's in your living room or something. I would even understand it if they said couch/sofa like most did in the video, but chair is definitely better, and armchair is perfect.

    • @AfroKing.
      @AfroKing. 5 месяцев назад

      @Yamanan. How old are you, though? I don't know anyone my age that says armchair. We just say chair. I hear older people say it, though. Yes I'm from America as well.

    • @Yamanan.
      @Yamanan. 5 месяцев назад +1

      26. If I was in the room I'd say chair, but if someone said armchair I'd know exactly which type of chair they meant. It was interesting in the video because I actually thought shoes when he showed the sneakers. So I went less specific for those but I guess everyone has their own preferred words. @@AfroKing.

    At 9:11 when he says "we stole a few words", I've thought "like the Brittish Museum".
    But well, nice video. You can go to Andalusia and see if Andalusian people can speak English. Cities like Seville, Cadiz or Malaga would be great.

    Love the relaxed approach to your vids, but do you do your own subtitles? There are a few mistakes in them here and there, which for an English teaching/learning channel is kind of a no-no, right...? ;)

      I do my own subtitles but they auto generated, after I go through them to correct any mistakes. Sorry if I missed anything and thanks for letting me know

      I can’t speak for the UK, but here in America there’s a nonstandard pronunciation and variation in spelling of mischievous as “mischievious.” Although incorrect, many people including former US president Herbert Hoover on record, pronounce it this way with 4 syllables and stress on the “chi” like this: mis-chē-vē-es. You may hear this pronunciation in American media which could cause confusion.

    • @TorTheWeirdo
      @TorTheWeirdo 5 месяцев назад +1

      Yes it’s regional. From my understanding “sneakers” is an up north thing. Most of the country says “tennis shoes” and then there a certain areas in the Midwest like Chicago that say “gym shoes.”
