Fun fact: Worcestershire sauce is HUGE in Brazil. Every snack bar and restaurant has it. But we have no clue… Why’s that? Cause we call it ENGLISH SAUCE (Molho inglês).😃
Haha I did see it actually
Eu não fazia ideia kkkkk . Meu molho favorito
1) talvez exista uma forma de fazê-lo sem usar peixe;
2) o mais provável e que tenhamos sido enganados por um bom tempo pelas fabricantes de molho brasileiras😂😂😂😂;
é o mesmo molho sim, mas só marcas mais caras trazem anchova como ingrediente, foi abrasileirado, hj em dia se acha lea & perrins pra vender no brasil e é o original, o primeiro a ser feito
I believe that has more Brazilians speaking English, even in a basic level, than English native speakers who knows Portuguese.

The reason everybody kept saying 'notebook' when it was 'laptop' It's not because of a brand but it's because that's what we call it here. we call a 'laptop' a 'notebook'. A laptop here would be used to refer to a fake 'laptop' like a kid's toy.
Also I don't think a macbook would be the first thing to mind when seeing a laptop since apple it's not that big in Brazil. At least not as big as in the US

No, he was in a rich area in São Paulo. Actually less than 5% of our population can speak english.

Thank you so much! Hope you are enjoying Durham
I don't usually comment, but overall I believe that only about 3-5% of the population can speak English fluently (and often have lived abroad). There are Brazilians who learn English without leaving the country, but they are also a very small portion of the population. English, being a Germanic language for Portuguese, which is a Latin language, requires a lot of study and memorization, which can take from 2 years for disciplined learners to even longer for those who are not serious. Obviously, it is easier for those who do an exchange or immigrate abroad.
There are more German speakers in Brazil than English speakers
The number of German speakers in Brazil is more concentrated among descendants or people with some close German ancestry. The majority of these speakers are located in the southern region of the country. However, Brazilian Portuguese is the only official language spoken by 98% of the population. Only in isolated regions of the northern Amazon rainforest are native languages spoken. Interestingly, Portuguese speakers from Portugal often consider Brazilian Portuguese to be a dialect.
Yes, that is true, but I have a question, are you Brazilian because you have a lot of knowledge about the country 🤔
actually, more than 1/2 of Modern English vocabulary derives from Latin, and ModE also has significant grammatical divergences from Germanic languages. as a Brazilian myself, I found English to be naturally achievable due to the similarities between vocabulary, and a really decisive factor is how much exposed you are to the targeted language. when it comes to ModE, we are all exposed to it at some extent, and it might be through music, cinema, videos… so its classification as a Germanic language, doesn’t necessarily add up to the amount of work needed when learning it, coming from a Romance language background.
@@hairandcia2028because it is, in fact, a dialect. Many even

Gabriella at 14:03 had me 🤣. "Nooo...Mortadella?" God I miss Sao Paulo🫶
I'm Brazilian and I can tell you that those people in your video are priviledged and considered exceptions for being able to understand and speak English pretty well, even making some mistakes sometimes. If you go to a less wealthy neighborhood or to the suburbs of São Paulo, I'm quite sure that almost no one will barely understand you.
I just went to random places not privileged areas
I used to live in this street, its called Maria Antonia. its in front of Mackenzie Univercity, a rich school with a lot of rich people 😂
@@InstantEnglishUK I see, I'm not criticizing you. But as other Brazilians have already commented, these are considered wealthy areas where people are expected to be priviledged and well educated. Brazil has a huge social and economical inequality, so people's educational background and even their appearance will vary a lot according to the region you are exploring. (for example, we couldn't see many black or mixed people in your video - they live mainly in the suburbs)
@@InstantEnglishUKNo no, sorry, but you didn't. All those places are priviledged (i live across the street from that university - only the rich ones hang out there). Social inequality here in Brazil is huge, man. That neighborhood is just for rich kid, unfortunately

@@InstantEnglishUK I think he is referring to Matthew. He did really good! And i think he probabbly said the english version of his name cause is pretty rare a "Matthew" instead of "Matheus"
It was interesting to see how Brazilians speak English and it was impressive. If I were there I would answer anything. I have a very extensive vocabulary and I know
10 000 words, but sometimes there are some words I rarely use in my everyday life. Unfortunately I don’t have many people who can speak English with me and I am desperate cuz I want to make friends so they can speak only English with me.
I don’t want everyone to speak my first language because it annoys me. My family always speaks Russian with me and no one speaks English with me. I don’t live in an English speaking country. I am bilingual and I speak two languages fluently. My studies were in English, but I only had online lectures cuz I was the only student from my faculty and others were Erasmus students from different countries, but I never met them cuz it all was online, so it was pretty boring. When I had French at my university, there was a girl from Italy, we communicated with each other and then she had to return to Italy at the end of her study semester in a foreign country. Anyway, it was great to meet someone. During online lectures I had to listen, but it also was good because it was a voluble info for me and I had good grades this year.
I will defend my bachelor paper this summer, so and then afterwards I want to move to my homeland cuz I’ve been living in a foreign country for 22 years and life is bad now, but things will get better. I want to find a good job, earn a lot of money, find a good girlfriend and make reliable friends. Furthermore, I am interested in learning other languages and I know some basic Greek words and I have a conversational level in Spanish, but I want to improve my Spanish. I’ve been working as an English teacher since last year and I am happy to help someone with English. I have dreams and I’ll do anything to make my dreams come true.

Oi Bruna, tem uma diferença entre *SPECIALLY* e *ESPECIALLY* em inglês.
Yeah! Fiquei na dúvida entre qual dos dois seria o correto. Pensei que seria "specially" por estar especificando sobre vocabulário mas faz sentido pois há vários vocábulos dentro do tópico vocabulário! Thank you for your help!
I learned English by watching TV shows with subtitles, till i finally managed to understand what they were saying without having to read the subs, i'm not 100% fluent, i'd say 90% maybe, but i can easily communicate with any English speaker. The 10% is the expressions, the phrasal verbs that i'm still learning till today, actually but it's understandable considering that there's LOTS AND LOTS of expressions and phrasal verbs in American english 😅😆
And i also speak Spanish, i learned it by watching mexican tv shows😆
Now, my goal is to learn Italian and French 😍
I'm soo happy after this, these guys are soo good . Appalaude for them 👏🏻

The fact that the English range level here is so broad is impressive. I have seen people going from the earliest stages of basic to the most advanced levels.
The thing here is people WILL TRY to talk to you and help you even if their level is not the most advanced. So lots of people here can communicate in english - even if sometimes it is more of a simple type of structure with limited vocab and lots of signing going on...

The images were easy! For me, the Speaking section would be the hardest, since we hardly speak in english, that means we dont practice at all, so it gets a bit rusty.. Forming phrases while pronouncing them at the same time is hard on a brain that doesnt make it often.

A laptop and a notebook is definitely the same thing. (Notebook can be other things too though).
Some regions of English speakers call a backpack just "a bag" im sure. I mean that is what it is, just not detailed.
Gauge was a trick one lol. Maybe their not spelled the same but it could be "Lets gauge your interest" (gay-dge). or "He gauged it out of the hole" (gow-dge). Right?
Notebook is a not a laptop in any English speaking country. It’s like how Spanish speakers often use career to refer to their degree. It maybe an English word but it’s not used correctly in context that English speakers would understand.
If people in Brazilian want to use it in Portuguese that’s not a problem, however, it doesn’t mean the same in English 😇😁
@@InstantEnglishUKi live in the United States and it absolutely is a notebook here. Sometimes notebook is only a laptop when its a bit thinner or smaller but a notebook is still a laptop.
