  • In S T E R E O, from February 1998, Glen Campbell sings Jimmy Webb's "MacArthur Park" with a scorching guitar solo; during interview segment, host Gary Chapman points out Keith Urban in the audience admiring his guitar hero Glen (Keith was still with his group "The Ranch" at the time); Jimmy Webb himself joins Glen & Gary and they talk about their history together.

I still can't believe that Jimmy was only 19 when he wrote MacArthur Park. I am so glad that these 2 guys paths crossed when they did because the music they created was so incredibly beautiful. I don't care who else sang his songs, Glen gave them real life.

+Carl Watson Glen isn't performing anymore, due to Alzheimer's disease. That's why I wrote 'had". I wasn't implying he had died. From what I've read, he had a difficult time during his last shows; he was forgetting what songs he had played, and repeating them. It must have been heartbreaking for both the audience and him.
Because of Glen, Chet Atkins and the Ventures, I became a professional Guitarist many years ago. Glen's influence was paramount on my concept of what a great musician was.
Glen was one of the absolute best guitarists in his day, a studio ace, and a phenomenal singer and entertainer. When Glen had to stop performing, the world of music lost one of its best.
Absolutely NO disrespect to Glen will ever come from me.
