Wow!! Thank you! So many great ideas! Some weeks ago, I reached out to one of my favorite pattern design and asked if she was interested in having her patterns translated into Portuguese (I am a professional translator), and she accepted. So, I exchanged my services for her patterns! I was happy and she was happy!
When I worked at a law firm, we used to have a craft class on our lunch hour. One of the girls had an Etsy shop and suggested I should open one. I did and it was a little hectic when I worked, but when I retired it got very busy except for the summer months. I barter what I make with professional photographers to get professional photos. That really makes a difference.
BellaCoco helped me learn to crochet. I literally learned from one book and two of her videos! And I love amigurumi. It’s crazy how many people ask me to make amigurumi for them! I am about to send out my first out-of-state order and I’m so excited!
Textiles are the biggest cottage industry in the world. In the past, guilds worked well for producing saleable textiles, teaching many techniques, and for innovation. Guilds are great for arranging sales in the local community. It's also nice to have friends to knit and crochet with. Knitting, crochet, and weaving have been an economic powerhouse historically. In other countries, it's still very important.
I am have watched some of your videos and l am learning a lot from you. I have always wanted to start making money doing what I love but was afraid to. My family has always told me to sell my stuff, but I would just make things and give it away. Now I am on a fixed income and can't afford to do this now. But watching your videos l am learning a lot from you and I am going to look at all your go to videos. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this wonderful resource! I am an elementary art teacher who is looking into making stitching into a business now that I realize my pension has been “clawed back” into practically nothing. I cannot do the physical labor of the full class load. However, I love to create & teach a love of creativity. I do not know if this is the answer, but it is a bit of hope.
wow wee, you're amazing! thanks for sharing so much wealth of information. currently I host a small knitting and crocheting circle at Bailey'scafe in Brooklyn. During this past summer I had the opportunity to work and get paid for a weekly Wednesday fiberarts workshop. I'm considering the different options for expanding what I do and I truly appreciate the information you've shared.
You're so welcome! There are so many ways you can make money from crocheting and knitting! That's wonderful that you've already started! Once you realize that you can be paid to do what you love a whole new world will open up! Good luck!!! 🧶🧶🧶
I had a business years ago with a dear friend, and we made crochet Victorian gowns, petticoats, and knickers for Barbie dolls. I remember when I sold my very first for $100k, I was so excited, but unfortunately she moved away and passed away recently. I'm now 71, and I still think about selling toys, especially these Amigurumi. I just started, but I'm enjoying them, and Elise I followed you making the catster. I just finished my first, but of course I am just practicing, but it gives me ideas.
Elise, thank you for such useful information!! This is SO timely for me as I put things together to set up a shop. Since I will be only one of countless choices, I have been on a learning expedition about how to build clientele. I know #1 is HAVE A DESIRABLE PRODUCT, then #2, 3, 4 ... is PROMOTE, PROMOTE, PROMOTE. So, since I'd rather not reinvent the wheel when others are navigating the path, I am extremely appreciative of those who share what they've learned.
Wow! You are always a wealth of information. I love the way your mind works. Thank you for all the info. I appreciate the hard work that went into this video. You did all the hard work for us and laid everything out very simple and concise. You are amazing 🤩
This is all really helpful information, Elise. Thank you for being such an inspirational facilitator!! I greatly appreciate that aspect of your personality! This has given me a lot to think about.
What a timely video! I’m currently working on starting my business and taking classes in business at my local community college. When the video was finished I saved it for references for a later time and bookmark. Thank you so much for all the diverse ideas!
Taking classes at local college? What a wonderful idea. I should do that. A few Accounting classes would be another thing for me to put in my to-do list. Thank you for the suggestion.
Knitting has been my side hustle for years. I knit as a hobby all year long to sell my product at markets for what I consider my peak selling months, October to December for holiday gift giving. My issue was having the TIME since I worked full time too. It's important to find your niche in the market place. There is money to be made.
This video is so well done! It is a fountain of beautiful inspiring information. I have learned thru my career it is best to simply consider everyone a potential partner. So many starting out miss this important key to business success. To your continued success…
I'm in the process of purchasing a property that has a lot of fruit and vegetables on it. The realtor suggested that I could take the extras to the farmer's market. My daughter also wants a beehive which would be great for the garden. I'm thinking it would be neat to have a few crochet items for sale on the table as well. I'm not really looking to make a lot of money, honestly it would probably be more so that the food growing on the property doesn't go to waste, but it would be nice to get some back from our efforts in the garden.
@@EliseRoseCrochet I'm thinking of maybe making little crochet fruits, vegetables, foods, and garden bugs would go well alongside real fruits and vegetables. I'm very new at crochet. I tried earlier this year and got really confused because I was watching right hand videos while trying to crochet left-handed. I gave up on trying to do it left-handed for now and decided to just figure it out right-handed. Maybe I can switch it up once I get more comfortable, but I don't think I'm doing too bad. I made a couple of the cats from the Dumpling Cats book, and I'm almost finished with an Ogre. I think I like the lace weight yarn a little better than worsted though, but it might be my hook that is the real issue. The 4.5mm I decided to use is one of those plastic light up ones, but it is squeaky and harder to pull through. On top of that, I don't even like the built in light because I feel like it blinds me more than helps me see. I realized the squeaky when watching your video review on hooks and now I'm too far along with this ogre to start over/ swap hooks.
Thank you for sharing with others, I have not yet tried to sell my things, but am in the process of researching and finding out what I need to know, so your videos are very helpful. If not for fellow crafters being so generous with their knowledge, I don’t think I would even consider it.
I’m just considering the idea of selling some crochet items. Crochet items Ive made include dishcloths, towel holders, scrubbies, potholders& hot pads, baby blankets, shawls, scarves, hats, scented pumpkins, teddy bears, etc. I’m considering taking items to a craft show to see if anything sells???

Thank you for your information. I am trying to set up a small business to bring in extra cash when I retire. (I am using my husband as my test subject for my patterns. No complaints, but lots of suggestions for improvements.)
Thank you Elise for the GREAT info! I have been wondering about this very subject for a few years now and my kids have told me too, “Ma you need to start selling your stuff, you could really make money.” Love your channel and thanks once again. 😊

She always wanted to do something and become an independent woman but my grandparents financial conditions didn't helped her dreams. Help me in making her dreams come true😊 who knows? maybe your idea can change someone's life😊
Thanks for this information. For a while I wrote craft articles which was enjoyable and gave me an income. The online company that I wrote for was sold and many of us lost this income. So, two things here, you may be able to share your knowledge by writing articles and you must pay strict attention to what is going on. That nice income can disappear, so be ready for a new path. Do not trust your income on one thing.
Hey so, just a quick question...ARE YOU A HUFFLEPUFF?! LOL I saw your little mascot in the background and your 9 3/4 looking sign below in the corner.... :) was just curious 🤔
Thank you for this video, it's really very helpful. I have a question: almost every manual already exists. I would be afraid that I would have problems if I publish a manual that already exists. Or very similar to my inspiration. For example, a mandala, a bag or an amigurumi. Can I get a problem there? Do I mention the inspiration or can that cause even more problems?
That was a fear I had in the beginning that my patterns would look like someone else's. As long as you made the pattern from your own ideas, it's fine. For example there are only so many ways to crochet a bunny, there are going to be similarities! Good luck!! 🧶🧶🧶
Hi Elise! I was doing a little fiber shopping and ordered the neck light you recommend for your link. I was wondering what kind of fiber fill for you recommend for your Amigurumi’s. If I overlooked I apologize thanks -Susan Montgomery
Thanks for sharing all these recommendations. What you are doing is quite lovely and inspiring. I do beautiful crochet but I have no help and no one can succeed alone. Technology for me is daunting. I've wasted a lot of money making an effort to move forward and then giving up. I can participate in almost all the other aspects of a business except those that are technological. I often wish I had a person or more to team up with so they could do those tasks but I haven't been successful. It makes me sad to think of it because I could have been doing better.
I totally get it. I'm not a "tech" person, but I've had to learn how to do it. It's a skill just like learning how to crochet. Working through learning new technological skills will be so worth it in the long run! Good luck! ❤️
My advice would be to start with one thing. Choose something that you can start with and learn everything you can about it. When you feel comfortable with that one, add something else! 💖
Thank you for all of your suggestions and help -- and agreed. Mindset which is not as easy as it seems. One day I feel I'm there and other days I'm wondering just what on earth am I doing... But I keep doing it! 🤣
Me too!!! I also really struggle with direction! I want to do all the things, which really isn't possible! 😂 But I really loved Sarah-Jayne's advice! 🧶
@@EliseRoseCrochet I agree. Things like hats for adults, slipper-socks, and then anything Amigurumi seems to be my area. Blankets, shawls, scarves, and anything else along those lines seems like it will never be -- and it just may turn out that way. Wishing the best for everyone and their decisions and wherever their journey takes them!
Great video, would love to hear about how you price your items for sale. Very good info in this video, have been thinking about maybe selling some of my work.. Thank you for this video.
This was great Elise! We are moving on to a new adventure... this Fall we will be Homesteaders! I definitely want to incorporate knitting and crochet as part of a family income... dreaming and planning now. Thanks for all the tips!
That's so wonderful, Nicole!!! You should really think about starting a RUclips channel! I'm at the part in your book when you all are getting ready to move to PA! I look forward to reading every night! 📖📖📖
@@EliseRoseCrochet it's a terrifying thought buy also a very exciting thought.... I know one of the things I DEFINITELY want to do is have a few wool sheep and learn to shear and dye and card and spin... so many possibilities. I can't wait to just slow down and start writing down ideas..My brain is about to burst. I'm going like the energizer bunny getting this house ready..I'm going to email you the link of our new house!
Best advice for people who have dreams and hopes to earn on what they love is to quit dreaming and get real job. 99% of people won't succeed and longer they will keep trying, worse trouble they're going to drag themselves in. Talent and skill means next to nothing if you're not lucky.
Thanks for sharing your perspective. I know several people who are making a full time income from crocheting, but it took time to get to that point. 🧶🧶🧶
@LePetitSaintCrochet Well, I know several people who are making full time income from their handmade art (nobody who relies solely on crocheting but crocheting mixed with knitting or weaving/macrame) and it's not their patience and persistence what got them there (they had it of course, next to impossible to get anywhere without that) but one or several lucky breaks. Many, many others were as patient, dedicated, persisted, skilled and talented - got them nowhere, cause no lucky breaks, just harsh reality hit them way too many times.
Hello! I’ve been enjoying your tutorials. Do you have a tutorial or know of one they you would you recommend for embroidering eyes on an amigurumi doll?
@@EliseRoseCrochet yay!!!! I have been looking through all your past videos in case I missed it. I’m embroidering the eyes because I’m crocheting the doll for a baby. The shower is next week. Are there any videos you’d recommend until you’ve released your tutorial?
@@EliseRoseCrochet that’s okay! I’m still looking forward to when your release your tutorial. This will definitely not be my last amigurumi project needing eyes. Thank you for all you do! I’m learning so much! 😊🧶
Hello! I love your videos❣️ very helpful and inspiring! If you ever need a translation (Spanish English) just let me know, I’ll gladly do it for you. 🙃
I had very small income from pattern selling and teaching. But I have too many crochet dolls at home, I spent too much time on them and I dont want to sell at too low, but it occupied a lot of my space, how could I sell the dolls much quicker?
Figure out a price that would make you happy and see if they will sell for that. Try on Etsy or even at a local handmade market. If they don't sell at that price, drop it until you can sell them. If all else fails look for places to donate them that makes you feel good about it. Hope that helps!! ❤️❤️❤️
Hello Elise. I’m new to your channel and I wanted to ask questions but have been unable to find anywhere I can ask. Can you please direct me to the way you get comments/questions. Thx
Thank you for the video! Question, do you have to go through some sort of licensing or registration to sell amigurumi. I know there are certain rules about selling kids toys, but are they considered kids toys?
Here in the United States I'm not aware of any regulations for selling toys on a small scale, like for a handmade business. I also don't consider the things I crochet toys, more like nursery decor. Hope that helps! ❤
The only situation in the US where one may need licensing is if you are making copyrighted characters such as Mickey Mouse. In a case like that, Disney is highly protective of their intellectual property and they may be inclined to take legal actions against someone who makes Mickey Mouse merch to sell. Something to keep in mind.
Well, it’s so confusing because from what I understand, there are regulations when selling amigurumi…such as testing (with plastic pieces such as eyes).
Yes! I currently am only selling patterns and printables there. Someday soon I will need to sell some finished toys as my hoard is getting a little large! But I also sell on my own blog. ❤️❤️❤️
So you hoard till it doesn’t fit and then sell? That was one off the things I was considering since they take time to make. So if they do go fast how do I keep up without running out of stock and people have to wait for their product?
I've tried selling finished toys and then selling made-to-order and I liked selling finished toys much better. It was less stressful for me and I could ship them right away. But I will say, people really liked having the option of made-to-order toys and were willing to wait weeks for me to make them, but it was too stressful for me. Good luck selling your toys!! ❤
Hi my name is Roshena and I am finding it extremely difficult to sell my hobby and I have made 2 catalogues for local distribution and I don’t seem to get any takers. Some advice will be greatly appreciated
Start trying to figure out what the problem is, are your prices too high or too low? Are you offering the types of items that people in your area want to purchase? Start looking around and seeing what other people in your area are selling, that may help you as well! It can be a time of trial and error when you're first starting out! ❤️
@@EliseRoseCrochet thank you kindly for replying to me I wasn't sure if you were going too. I think I think my prices are to high because I had a look at selling prices of various crochet products. I will lower my prices as I have a selling portal on takealot and I'm building up my stock as I am the only one making my hand made goodies. Is there a platform I could show you some of my items

This was very helpful. I just got back into crocheting. As I needlefelt as well
I'm so glad it was helpful! And needle felting is amazing!! 🐰
Hi Elise, WOW thank you SO much for sharing!! Just subscribed to your channel, SO many great ideas and your Amigurumi are ADORABLE!!❤️❤️❤️🥰🙏🏼
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you're enjoying the channel! 🧶🧶🧶
Thanks so much for sharing your experience. Diversification is definitely a good thing these days! 💖
Hey so, just a quick question...ARE YOU A HUFFLEPUFF?! LOL I saw your little mascot in the background and your 9 3/4 looking sign below in the corner.... :) was just curious 🤔
Lol! I love Harry Potter, but I'm not sure what house I like more. ❤
Good luck!! 🧶🧶🧶
Another fantastic video! I found myself nodding my head to all of the great advice and resources. Thank you!
I'm so very glad you enjoyed it! 💖
How do you read minds Elise? 😂 I honestly was just thinking about this topic !! Thank you ! ❤
Haha!! I'm so glad this video is well timed!! ❤️🧶❤️🧶
Wow this is great info! I can’t wait for Sara janes course I’ll definitely keep my eye out for it!
Yes! I know it's going to be amazing!! 🧶🧶🧶
I just signed up to become a crochet instructor then I will do the knitting one
That's amazing!!! 🧶🧶🧶
Hi Elise! I was doing a little fiber shopping and ordered the neck light you recommend for your link. I was wondering what kind of fiber fill for you recommend for your Amigurumi’s. If I overlooked I apologize thanks -Susan Montgomery
I mostly use Poly-fil stuffing! I hope you like your neck light. ❤
@@EliseRoseCrochet Thank you! I can’t wait to get it in tomorrow to use it🙂Love your channel, I have learned so much from you already. TFS!!!♥️
I’ve made some of the Harry
Potter stuff from that book All came out great, especially Dobby.
Thank you so much for sharing that!! The Dobby pattern is amazing!!! 🧶🧶🧶
This just popped up in my feed and it made me so excited! Thank you for including me and for all the kind words ❤️😘
Wait??? Who is this???? I don't recognize the name!!! 💓💓💓

@@aleyzina Lol! I thought so, but wasn't sure!!! I'm so glad you liked the video!
Thank you for these tips.
You're very welcome! 💗💗💗
Good luck! ❤️
Love your tips! Thank you. Where do you buy your shirts? I love them all and need that pink sweater! ❤
Thank you! I buy them lots of different places!! ❤️❤️❤️
I do craft fairs in November and December and make way more than enough for Christmas presents for my son's and my youngest son' birthday
That's wonderful!! What a great way to make money for Christmas!! 🎄🎄🎄
@@EliseRoseCrochet thanks. Now doing scarves, slippers, etc in local sports teams and university school colors
The business math class I took years ago helps with the craft fairs

Great video Elise, very useful....I am just trying to discover my own niche.....x
Thank you so very much!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
An inspiring video. I’d love to earn money as a crafter but don’t really know where to begin.
Great food for thought ... thank you!
You're so welcome! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you sooooo much for all this information!!

@@EliseRoseCrochet it's a terrifying thought buy also a very exciting thought....
A very interesting & helpful video thank you !
Thank you so much! I'm so glad it was helpful! 💓

Hello! I’ve been enjoying your tutorials. Do you have a tutorial or know of one they you would you recommend for embroidering eyes on an amigurumi doll?
You just read my mind! I'm getting ready to do a video on that very soon! 👀👀👀
@@EliseRoseCrochet yay!!!! I have been looking through all your past videos in case I missed it. I’m embroidering the eyes because I’m crocheting the doll for a baby. The shower is next week. Are there any videos you’d recommend until you’ve released your tutorial?
I definitely won't have mine done before then. I don't have any recommendations, unfortunately! I'm sure there are some good ones on RUclips! ❤️
@@EliseRoseCrochet that’s okay! I’m still looking forward to when your release your tutorial. This will definitely not be my last amigurumi project needing eyes. Thank you for all you do! I’m learning so much! 😊🧶

Thx
I'm not sure I understand your question. Are you looking for where to answer your comments on your RUclips channel? ❤️
So you sell under le petit saint crochet on Etsy? I would love to visit your shop there 🙂
Oops! My comment was about becoming a Certified Crochet Instructor. I had stumbled on this and thought I'd never use it at the time.
No problem!! ❤️
