It's insane, I'm not even well paid and I would never imagine stooping to that level, not to mention if I went to convention (on my PAID vacation, most likely!) I could spend $20 on a burger meal and so on for few days without going broke.

My mother use yo do this back in the 80s and 90s.
She thought the “make your own lemonade” hack displayed savviness and cleverness.
She was completely unaware that to others it seemed miserly and rude.
She also tended to make my brother and I share a meal (despite us being big enough and hungry enough for our own) , and she tipped extremely little.
This is all despite the fact that she was a waitress herself for a long time. At times working two waitressing jobs at a time to support us.
It’s as if once she got a better paying job, she forgot all the headaches of being a server.
She would leave an Avon catalog or a card for Pampered Chef with her measly tip. As if that would help them earn money, when she was making far more than them at her job and still was being a cheapskate.

Hi, I'm the one who submitted the nursing mom Optavia story! I'm stoked you actually read it and I've loved reading all the comments related to it. I wanted to give an update to say that Christy is ABSOLUTELY targeting postpartum nursing moms to try Optavia. She just made a post today, which I will abbreviate and edit for length and privacy... "Becky hopped on one of my plans for nursing mamas when her baby was just 2.5 months old. She lost 55 pounds, had no issue with her milk supply, and is celebrating increased energy." Yet again, the Optavia 5-in-1 disclaimer is present on the before and after photos. It sickens me that it wasn't just me reading into Christy's own experience as a nursing mom, she's still actively targeting others by saying this mom had success with no affect to her milk supply. This is so, so dangerous. Stay vigilant Mamas, and thank you SO much Hannah for reading my story and bringing awareness!

Hi! I'm a nurse, lactation consultant and tandem nursing mom of 2. Your story made me so angry and sad all at once. Breastfeeding is incredible for your baby and this mom is sabotaging nursing moms by starvation. It's incredibly dangerous for anyone, but like you said, especially awful to be targeting post partum moms. How ever you choose to feed your baby, your body needs at least a year to recover from giving birth and you need good nutrition to be your best for your baby. Thanks for your story! Hopefully new moms can be made aware of the dangers of optavia and other unregulated and unsafe supplements and diets

It’s crazy to me how different each pregnancy is not just from person to person, but from pregnancy to pregnancy. With my first at about 6 months old I decided to crack down and get in shape. I was exercising basically daily, eating about 1200-1500 calories a day (not a program, just counting calories) and my milk was awesome. I had so much. Similar story with my second, but now my third I’m only 10 months in and I can barely keep up. I’m eating plenty, not really exercising, and not trying to lose weight but I’m way worse than when I was. Everyone is different I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️

i will never underestimate the importance of nutrition during breastfeeding now that i've been through it! before i got pregnant i was very underweight and hardly ate, and stayed that way throughout my pregnancy. even the doctors thought my son would be very small and i basically had no bump... thankfully he came out 50th centile despite my terrible diet.
but nursing changed all of that, i went from eating a couple bites at meals to two full adults portions every meal and still feeling hungry! been nursing for two years now and its changed my entire outlook on nutrition. how awful it must be to have some MLM pray on your vulnerabilities during such a sensitive time, my heart goes out to those women and their babies.

Of course moms have enough pressure than to overthink that if they are just eating/doing what they can, but intense restriction is where I would feel worried about nutrition

If the kid continues to decline, the pediatricians and family etc will blame the conditions that led the kid to need donated breastmilk and not the breastmilk itself. eating 800 calories, shedding weight super fast, posting tons of before-and-after pics, and doing a lot of exhausting activities (pumping milk) sounds like a post partum eating disorder if I’ve ever seen one (and my god I have). there needs to be more awareness about how many are affected by this.
it’s okay to not lose pregnancy weight fast, it’s okay to not loose all of it or to not loose any at all. you may have given birth, but your lifestyle and your body are still not back to how they used to be, and they may never be.
the hormonal changes of pregnancy can last for years, and hormones are well known to affect weight. it’s not your fault if you don’t lose weight. it’s not a failure, it doesn’t make you less beautiful, less worthy, less good of a mother and a person. losing weight isn’t inherently healthy or good for you, it should absolutely never be a priority over proper nutrition for you and your child.

As a previous server bartender and now the wife of a director of operations for a really fancy restaurant chain, I can say that unfortunately rich people not tipping waitstaff is actually normal, sadly. Over 15 years ago whenever I worked at outback steakhouse, New York Yankee pitcher Andy Petite and his family often barely left 10%. They would done on lobster and steak then leave $20 on a $200 tab. We had another rich guy who used to come in with his wife and son and they would all order lobster. He never left a tip once. And unfortunately as a server if you refused to wait on somebody you would get in trouble. Management wouldn't do anything to compensate the staff that had just worked for free. What's sad is that on the opposite spectrum you would have a young adult that probably makes minimum wage, leave a 20-25% tip. It's just crazy. The reason why management doesn't care, is because over all the server is still making way more than minimum wage so in the grand scheme they can't complain. My husband's wait staff, if full-time, make $50k-$60k a year, so while it is irritating to work for free for that table, overall the server is still making almost $30/hour

I know this because I got into a full-fledged fight with someone when they did this and when I called the police afterwards (and they even knew the person, who was a known troublemaker, despite being in their teens), they informed me of this. I am allergic to cats so do not know a lot about them but Zeke is hilarious! I’ve never heard such a loud cat. It’s really rather sweet!

Fun fact-with both my kids I nursed for a full year-sometime around 6-9 months when they started solids and the demands on me lessened I dropped 10lbs in a month without trying. With my first it happened 6 months, my second it was around 9 months.
My body legit was not gonna let go of that weight until the demand for milk was less.
So for some of us our bodies have a really strong sense of self preservation and won’t drop the weight until it knows we can handle it.
Hope this helps someone feeling discouraged about it!
My aunt is an ob and she says-it takes 9 month to grow a baby-give yourself at LEAST that long for your body to go back to normal.

I was under Kirby for 5 weeks right out of college. The way they've got their minimum system set up You need to get through 60 doors in a month ( which includes getting to that phone call in the house) to get your salaried minimum, otherwise you're limited to your comitions. Yeah, now the way the incentive structure is set up for the managers encourages them to drive a Van full of sales people around the neighborhood. This combination means you work 2 hours for Every 45 minute appointment if everybody gets throue every dore. So they trained us that every 3 to 6 doors we've did not get through the entire team had an extra unpaid hour. My breaking point happened when I was getting chewed out by the supervisor for letting a Mercedes Benz salesman push my foot out of the way. It's when the cops rolled up on us and were detaining the entire team. Because someone had just been arrested for kicking through a security chain. And then taking the baseball bat a woman in her 70s ( in scrubs) tried to use to expel Him from her house so she could go to work.

I gave birth in late May, myself. During pregnancy, I gained 53 pounds and only dropped 15 pounds after birth, breastfeed exclusively, and only lost 2 more by the 2nd month postpartum. And my period came back within 5 weeks postpartum!! I've been trying to balance caring for my daughter with eating quick, ready made but healthy meals and have lost another 7 but still well above my pre pregnancy weight. It is hard mommas and you're doing so much! Give yourself credit for carrying and sustaining a beautiful new person.

The Amway convention story is also an A+ example of how unionizing and organizing your workplace is a net benefit.
