Back in 2001, I wanted this game so badly, but I couldn't get it because it was one of those rare games that you hardly find in your local Wal-Mart, and because I was going through puberty during that year 😂
I've heard a lot about this series over the years. Recall quite a long while ago watching maybe Game Grumps played one of the later titles because I seem to remember Arin's voice, yet never played any of 'em for myself. Who knew Shantae was a series with a kink fetish? "Spank this one extra hard for Mommy". That caught me off-guard but I laughed heartily just like a pirate would!
I only bought a Gameboy Advance for Double Dragon and Mario Kart Super Circuit. Once again, I learned about and see more retro games from your awesome channels thanks again enjoy your weekend
I love the Shantae series. The first game is rough compared to the later games in the series which are great. I can’t wait for Shantae Advance. Ordered the CE from LRG.
You should play Half Genie Hero and The Seven Sirens. They're much better games. DON'T play The Pirate's Curse, if you get to the last stage and the last boss you'll be sorry, LOL. If you've ever beaten a really hard game and thought to yourself afterward "I NEVER want to have to do that EVER again," that's The Pirate's Curse. When I beat that, I thought to myself "I NEVER want to have to do that EVER again." That last stage and the last boss are that bad.
This game looks really well-made, with a lot of attention to detail evident in the sprite-art. Her main attack though, seems kinda underwhelming and almost counter-intuitive; even by gaming standards. When is it ever a good thing to get hit in the head? According to Shantae, ALWAYS. Or at least, whenever she wants to hit her head on something. Every other thing that hits your head hurts you. Because fuck consistent logic! I also noticed that her hit-box is a little on the bullshitty side. Sometimes you can be halfway overlapping an enemy and not get hit; other times stuff that's not even close hits you (usually when you're jumping and it's below you). But at least that's something one can adapt to, I guess. I didn't know about the extra attack you get, when playing it on GBA. Now I definitely want to replay it! xD And chat is wrong: this game is not a "metroidvania". It is, if anything, based more on _Castlevania II: Simon's Quest_ (NES 1987); which is absolutely *NOT* a "metroidvania". People only called _Symphony of the Night_ a "metroidvania" due to its map being so similar to the map featured in _Super Metroid_ (SNES 1994); not _Metroid_ (NES 1986) or _Metroid II: Return of Samus_ (GB 1991). Therefore, if _Simon's Quest_ was released in 1987, it could not possibly have been inspired by _Super Metroid._ So, if _this game_ is based on _Simon's Quest,_ then it would not automatically inherit the somewhat dismissive label of "metroidvania". But whatever; it's probably not chat's fault. As they're probably just too young to have seen any of these titles releases, first hand. So wtf do they care; probably seems like ancient history to them. Also, you _can_ read the signs in _Simon's Quest_ (for all the good that'll do you). Sand in front of them and hold up (like you do with doors). One thing they tragically left out of this game (as an "homage" to _Simon's Quest)_ are whip (hair) upgrades; a bit more range on the basic attack would be a very welcome thing!

I started playing Shantae: Risky's Revenge again because of this stream. Such an underrated series.
Cool! I hear the later games are better.
I echo that, the Shantae series is woefully underrated.
Thanks for playing it Erin!
OMG you're finally doing Shantae! She's a rock star.

How clever of the devs with the barrels hiding the enemy.
Hi Erin!!! 😊 I totally agree. You should totally play all of the Shantae games. They are all great! I’m a big big fan of the games!
