Grandparents got me this one for christmas when I was a kid. My brother got T & C Surf Design. So, I'd say I came out better-off that year! xD 12:12 The trick on parts like this, where you want to scoot forward quickly, before you hit the tractor-beams or spikes at the bottom, is to face backwards and use the gun's push-back as a push-forward; like a turbo-boots. This first time you encounter the tractor-beams (11:58) is maybe a bad example, cause you have a barrier to shoot through, but when there's no barrier at the bottom, this method works great. The same technique can sometimes be used when you want to kill an enemy, but have the wall-spikes behind you. You fly over them, turn back towards them, shoot them, and use the push-back as a boost forward. But this only works if you can easily get over the enemy, and it's a type of enemy that worth shooting after you're already past it. The NES Advantage (or any controller that lets you turn off turbo) is great for this game. You want turbo turned On in the SHMUP phase, but you want it turned Off while inside the fortress. And, due to the constant need to be holding a direction (while in the fortress, anyway), an arcade-stick really helps keep the strain on your hands to a minimum. It reminds me of wall-climbing with Grant in Cv III, just grinding our thumbs on the D-pad, lest we fall to our death. :P
@@CaptRicoSakara Silius is great and one of these days I'll finally beat that level three(?) boss because I'm an adult, darn it. Purchased it right before Xmas before receiving Last Ninja and Starship Hector. Tried both and watched Nutty Professor with the family instead. I'd never laughed harder up until that point. Ahh, the 90's...
This game could have been great if there was a little more work put into the level and enemy design. I'm glad you played it though, never seen anyone play or talk about this game since I rented it when I was a kid.
Even though parts of it seemed a bit repetitive (the enemies and especially the level design in the beginning of the levels,) i still really enjoyed it!
This game is NOT that hard. I rented this back in the day and it took me less than half of my weekend to beat. Blaster Master is a GREAT game. It's only downfall is it needs a battery save or a password system. Rygar is another great game that's only downfall is no battery or passwords. There is a Perkins about a 3 minute drive from my apartment. They have awesome French Silk pie there.

Got this game as an Xmas gift one year from a disinterested aunt that picked it at random. Always felt it deserved more appreciation
That's a memory worthy of warming a heart during a blizzard.
Also gotten Air Fortress for Christmas, along with Journey to Siris and The Guardian Legend. A trio of awesome scifi NES games. Best Xmas ever.
