Thanks Justin, the way you explain things with perfect and simple examples is better than any help guide out there for sketchup, gonna go through ur entire series.
Anyway a cross section cut can create surfaces that aren't really there, but cover the hollow spaces shown from cross sections? I am interested in taking photos of layers of an object.
is there any way for the section plane to not interfere with light and shadow? the plane treats the hidden objects as if it doesn't exists and just let all the light into the interior.
Thank you for your tutorial. After creating a section plane I would like to see the components that have been cut - rather than a black. Is this possible?
Hello Justin, sometime my section Plane disappeared and I have to create another section plane to let them reappear. do you know why? than Mate you are Great!
I believe it always will go to the extents. You can limit what it affects by putting your geometry in a group and putting the section plane within the group, but there's no way that I'm aware of to affect the size of the section plane. Thanks!
Hi Justin, I'm new(ish) to SketchUp and your videos are very good - this is me speaking as a professional TV program maker of many years experience. Thankyou. I'm not sure how many other comments you've had about this but, in my opinion, the one single thing you could do to elevate your films from Excellent to Faultless would be to lose the bloody music! It's not a video game, it's a lesson. An excellent lesson. There's so much information coming to the viewer and they need to be concentrating 100% to absorb it all, and I'm afraid the music distracts, it doesn't enhance or aid the learning experience. Thankyou though - even with the "bloody music" your videos have helped me immensely.
Lol - thanks for the comment and glad I've been able to help a bit. I got rid of the background music in all of my more recent videos. I'm not sure exactly when I made the change, never videos don't have this anymore :)
Could be a lot of reasons. Probably in this case you're creating a section plane then looking through it at your model. Turn off "section planes" in your view settings
Great video...! Is there a technique to render (vray) with a section cut active? I'd like to be able to do that with some interior designs. What I have to do now is cut a wall to position the camera properly.
Hi there! I'm not 100% sure to be honest with you. I know this has been an issue with rendering software for a while, and I'm not very familiar with Vray. I do know of some people that have used the Zorro2 extension to slice their models along section planes (ruclips.net/video/1g7RC65ClFw/видео.html), then render that, but make sure you save a copy of your model before you do that. Other than that, I haven't heard of a solution to this problem. Thanks for watching!
@@Thesketchupessentials Says the man who never sleeps? Thank you. Starting with Layout is quit a steep learning curve. Mostly because I struggle to set up my models in SketchUp correctly. Is it a good idea to save a template containing a simple house with five scenes containing the different elevations? Or is there a plugin extension that do that?
Would it be possible to transfer the section plane to AutoCAD? I made a 3d model in Sketch Up because it's more convenient but I want the section planes I created in there to transfer (or import something) to AutoCAD so I can create a "Section Thru" plan. (like the Flatshot command in AutoCAD)
@@Thesketchupessentials it's okay i found this tutorial online and this helps me with my problem and i think i wasn't being clear on my question. ruclips.net/video/V3NXvOvhQMk/видео.html Anyway, thanks for your tutorials sir.
You mean like actually slicing your model? You're going to need to use an extension like Zorro2....Your 3D print may not work though, if you cut through it so it's not a solid anymore...
Yes I mean actually cut it. I can re-manfold it later. I just want a clean plane right through it so the bottom is level, or in some cases put two objects together. Normally I would use the Netfabb software for that, but if I can save some steps that is better.
the command to lock the position like selecting arrow keys is not working in my SU8 it says here to shift only to lock in position. i cannot also my the section even when i select the section itself.please advice. thanks.
That's actually just the way that SketchUp renders walls - they're actual hollow objects in your model. There's a few things you can do - you can paint the back side of the walls a black color, you can use a style that sets all the back faces of objects in your model to a black color, or you can use an extension like Skalp, which allows you more control over sectioning functionality. (There may be other ways as well...) Hope this helped!
sketchup Pro 2020 version has a new feature 'Section Fill' , that fills the section into whole dark color. check it out. and Thanks Justin , you are a great guide man.
Thank you for your tutorials. you are a best online teacher ever. keep it up!!!!!

Very helpful!
ขอบคุณ Thank you from Thailand :)
This is absolutely helpful. Oh my god, this is like a dream. I make my transition from AutoCAD to SketchUp.
I know this is old vid . But thanks for simple instruction! very helpful.
nice video. helped me out
I see you can Tag a section cut, can you see a use for this? thanks
Great Video! Can you automatically update your "group from slice" when the model is modified?

With this pandemic could use some tips as I will be home a lot more now. Lol.
thanks thanks alot.
Justin, shout out from Nepal. Huge Respect from my side for all your efforts. Keep on shinning.

the plane treats the hidden objects as if it doesn't exists and just let all the light into the interior.
can't adjust the arrow of cutting plane for L-shape cut?
Is your sketchup course content visible please?
Trying to learn how to use this properly for my business, this one is very, very helpful. Thank you so much.
You are a star Justin! Thank you for everything you do for us! Keep up the good work this is really something you are passionated about!
Thank you for sharing such nice video Justin! It was so very knowledgeable & useful learning how to use section planes. Keep up the good work.
Glad you enjoyed it!

HELP! WHAT IF I USE BROWSER AND DONT HAVE TOOLS OPTION?. Where do I find it?
Update: found it 😂
my drawng in smaller than the size of the section plane cut how to adjust it ( eg the orange colored box is coming too large)
can you fill section plane with hatches and to import to sketchup.
God! Life got easier! Thank you for your videos. It's a gold mine for me.
I've been watching your tutorials to supplement my class. Thank you so much! You're a lifesaver!
Happy to help!
Hello Justin, sometime my section Plane disappeared and I have to create another section plane to let them reappear. do you know why? than Mate you are Great!
My section plane is so big how to fix that?
to activate an section you can do it with an "dobbe klick "on the section plane line. its much easier as to go over the pull down menue
Awesome tip! Thanks Konrad!
Is there a way to resize the section plane or will it always go to the full extents of the model?
I believe it always will go to the extents. You can limit what it affects by putting your geometry in a group and putting the section plane within the group, but there's no way that I'm aware of to affect the size of the section plane. Thanks!
SICK!!!! create group from slice is AWESOME!!!

Still so helpful!
thank youuuuuuuu sooooooooooooo muchhhhhhhhhhh justinnnnnnn

"THE" active cut, vs "AN" active cut. Important distinction. (Unfortunately I found this vid after figuring that out myself).
Interesting...
why does my model get grey? Its so annoying

Why are my section plane lines 20 times bigger than my house?
You've probably got some hidden geometry somewhere way far away from your house

yes, you can. the Sliced section can be exported to AutoCaD... or simply Cut/ copy n Paste.
How do I make the cut though? I am trying to create a flat plane at the bottom of a rough object so it can be 3D printed.

Glad you got it! Thanks!
