It probably made 17/18 stronger by association... but this training gave them a better starting point to go further. It's probably how Goku and Vegeta learned the SSJ stages without further guidance.
If Piccolo had any more malice for Goku, then these 3 years took it away for sure. He spent time and bonded with Gohan. And those had mutual respect based on that. And I imagine these 3 years, Piccolo and Goku became great friends as well. I'm sure they didn't always train. Would've loved some more episodes to see the wacky adventures they went on XD
What's sad is Goku, Gohan and Piccolo probably had this same bond in the future timeline. Not training as much due to not having knowledge of the androids but it's Goku's nature to keep fit. Chichi would be crazy with the studying but I'm sure Gohan would sneak out and spend time with his dad from time to time to train. And I know Goku wouldn't wanna slack knowing Vegeta would be training to best him. And then...around this time...Goku grows ill :(

Some inconsistent BS about only be able to use the Time Chamber for 3 days your entire life (even tho Goku and Vegeta use it for 3 more days straight in Super), also I don't think they knew about it and I assume Mr. Popo waited on it in case of emergency, which is pretty much what I think they did.
Well as you can see 3 years was enough time to train for the androids, they didn't know about cell. If they had another 3 years to train after cell was introduced they wouldn't have needed to cram a year into one day..
One thing i dont understand is the android arrived three years later and still they were no match for them but they train just a day in hyperbolic time chamber and the surpass them😅
noel serrao training in the hyperbolic time chamber is one day on earth but a year worth of time if you’re in the chamber. So they trained for a year in only one earth day
