Only time a Drax train will visit?

West Coast send a Driver Training run to Carlisle as well as the Northern Belle ESC to Edinburgh.
GBRf and DRAX sent a biomass train over the Settle Carlisle line for publicity purposes with photo shoots on the Ribblehead viaduct and at Dent. Celebrating 50 years of power generation at Drax Power station, 66301 and a wagon had been painted Gold.
And when I arrived at the station Mr Portillo was filming another Great railway Journeys programme,

You create a great atmosphere Les , at your beloved station. The sunny weather makes all the difference. Just superb. Thanks John
Many thanks!
What more can you ask for a Golden Drax train plus more West Coast specials.
An to cap it all off a close encounter with a Portillo moment waving his arms about
Bradshaw would approve of that !
Yes start and end with star quality!
@@LeslieGilpinRailways I hope Portillo doesn't ask for an appearance fee !
Lovely mixture of old and new as always Les, nice to see Mr Portillo at Carlisle!
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video Les superb footage there matey, that was a nifty piece of filming across A road of the 2 57s together@ 13 18 excellent, also that Tesco .box train was long one this time around ,
and of coarse the golden 66 looked awesome , yes it was a .bit out of .bounds up there 🤣
nice one Les top man . take care a t .b syd👍
Many thanks. The tesco was usual length - just didnt cut the boring bits out lol.
Great job again Leslie well done on catching them all ,keep up the great work , 😁
Thanks
Excellent vid as per usual Les, first time I've seen the gold 66 too!
Lovely to meet you as well last month, on the way out of the DRS open day - had a blast in Carlisle!
And to met you. I think the loco had only been shown in public a day or two before
Thanks for an excellent video Les. A busy day for you. Usually see the Drax trains on Donny Pete you tube. Nice to see it at your end. Hope Mr Portillo didn't spoil your day?
Thanks 👍It was a one-off day in many respects. I;d been forewarned of the Drax train so made a day of it! My P was a bonus but I tried not to openly film him - rather use his crew as props as I do with the station staff
Some great footage Leslie as usual.
Thank you for sharing
Andy
Thanks andy
Great video per usual Les, lovely speaking to you again, hopefully will be up again in October so fingers crossed will see you again
I hope so too! It was a surprise. Hope you had a good day and saw the Golden loco at Haltwhistle
Another lovely video Leslie well done great camera work as usual I am really looking forward to seeing your next video I hope you get a nice video next time also when is your next video going to be on RUclips bye for now Philip
Thanks so much! 😊
Came up from Leeds, to do a days spotting in Carlisle, the run there and back, speaks for itself, absolutely marvellous. But I picked the wrong day, Carlisle really was very very poor indeed spotting wise, hardly anything coming through freightwise. Done Carlisle a few times, never seen it as quiet as this, never mind there is always a next time. This was Thursday 1/8
Its a wonderful ride - I was going in the opposite direction to Settle. As for trains the 31st was great but I can imagine Thursday wasnt so good. Several trains haven't been running this week - works holidays etc.
Was lucky enough to be in Carlisle for some of that day and thoroughly enjoyed it, apart from Portillo's posturing, however what struck me is that West Coast sill have carriages running on the national network without CDL, why do they think they are exempt, will just ruin it for everyone if their not careful. By the way Carlisle and its people are sweet.
The West Coast driver training used stock without CDL I agree - there again there were no passengers on that train. Not sure if they are allowed even so.
Nice one Leslie , I'd swear that northbound Tesco train gets longer everytime I see it 😀
Thanks!. It certainly feels like it gets longer. Thats why I wanted to get that TPE unit passing and the Tesco still not have fully passed by.
nice cool trains in engeland nice video.groet ian
Many thanks! However - not a coal train - the wagons take biomass fuel imported from the USA. We don't have any coal power stations any more.
Great video especially the gold liveries 66 and wagon as for Mr portillo muscling on your turf I have it o good authority he was on his way to do some filming down the li e at a quakers hall in cumbria
Glad you enjoyed. They had arrived by train from Wigton but didnt stay in Carlisle long.
Enjoyed the video Leslie, not a huge fan of 66's but must say 66301 does look fantastic in gold...Mal
66s are the common workhorses these days and its the variety of liveries that make them worth recording.. A gold one - in Olympics fortnight too!
I wonder how often those Pullman coaches get out on the tracks. They positively shone. Even the paintwork on the springs and axle covers sparkled. How can you tell by looking that central door locking was not in existence? Talking of sparkle, the gloss has certainly gone from those postal 325s. As for Mr P, all I can say is he provides some interesting and entertaining moments on the box (and there's not many of those!).
There would be a dark orange square light indicator atlongside each door at the same height of the door. I think the Red Mk 2 was fitted. Yes Mr P just provided an amusing moment to take advantage of!
The Drax was through York yesterday and today. I did not see it in real in York and saw it on Railcam there today 02/08/24. Looks better than some of the other liveries I have seen.
It is a handsome and, from what I have seen, a very clean rake of wagons. I think the Golden Shed will be more than likely back up here although the (operations?) guy I spoke to from GBRf said they hope to keep it on the Drax circuits for a while.
The comparison between the two 57s was interesting: they looked like totally different locos types! I much prefer the clean lines of JG Churchward, but there again, it couldn't perform the duties of a T bird. A case of horses (or locos) for courses.
It seems the Drax bandwagon that sucks in millions of taxpayers cash will continue to roll under our new government. Nice livery though.
Did you catch the interview with the owner of Varamis Rail in the latest Green Signals episode?
Lots of great info in your captions too. You are an extremely knowledgeable chap, Mr G 😊
Its interesting how people prefer the smooth 'class 47' lines on a 57 cab than the ones for Dellner Couplings.
Epic video Les, thanks for sharing. Regards, Colin.
Glad you enjoyed it
Excelente video amei boa sexta feira ai 34:20 show
Thanks!
Cheers Les, some great captures there. Interestingly Carlisle is unique in that over the last 60 years it has hosted every type of Train and working that the Railway has to offer with very few exceptions. It never ceases to amaze me what works into this area day or night.
Indeed, still a wide variety of motive power gets here eventually
The Drax train and wagons look good, however it must have taken some searching to find so many that haven’t been graffitied.
It was a publicity trip so Drax and GBRf must have been carefully selecting them or revinyled a load
Diabolical liberty old Porty Queering your pitch like that!
lol I was suprised to see him there - in fact I saw the production crew first!
I will say it again Les is only one that tells you what's happening ie if a train is late and why.
Thanks generous of you saying that
Les Gilpen = absolute legend. Michael Portilo = Absolute T#@@%r
I couldnt possibly comment :0)
