I had the pleasure of seeing him about 20 years ago performing with the Boulder philharmonic orchestra. He was doing such amazing things that some of the orchestra members stopped playing and just watched him with their mouths gaping open. WHAT WAS HE DOING? Tears streaming from my eyes, it was one of the peak experiences of my musical life! How can one man have so much talent? Truly a legend …
What a legend! I just had the privilege to play for him in a master class…. I was practicing this piece on the side and hadn’t watched his version until today!
Oh Pepe! I love your sweet smiles when you strrrrum those last notes!! Thsnk you for the EXCELLENT MUSIC and your charming smiles! Bravo! Bravo! Bravissimo! 👏👏👏👏👏
Pure, not mic’d, the mark of a true Maestro. Had the pleasure of studying with his former teaching assistant, but probably won’t have the chance to play in his masterclasses. Still great to be one of his distant illegitimate grandchildren...
I like the subtle Flamenco phrasing that he produces (usually you see played with more traditional classical phrasing which I of course also love - this is truly a wonderful composition 💙 )
Absolutely love how at 1:51 Pepe plays that beautiful F major chord and pulls off of all the notes except the 1st string 8 fret c note… letting that note ring as the melody note.
Wow! Such a legendary guitar god having fun! Start your day with this and you are well on your way! It's like a Spanish sunrise in you head! LOL! Thanks for sharing this!
Pepe!!!!!!!!! Viva Pepe! I can't decide if I like Pepe's or Parkening's version of this tune... I guess I will just enjoy both! they both treat the middle section with a different temperment... Parkening's is more mellow and Pepe's is full of flamenco flourishes. Both rock!
OK, I've listened to both Pepé's and Tavi's version. Several things occur to me. First, you are comparing two men where one is half the age of the other. Second, Tavi's version is very clean, and sounds very nice, but a little bit sterile as a result. Third, as mentioned by others, the recording studio "effect" of Tavi's version (on Cordoba guitars channel) makes it something of an unfair sound comparison. Finally, this was written by Albéniz, who was a pianist. It is a piano piece "aping" being a Flamenco Guitar. If you listen to Piano versions of this you'll hear that the timing is nearer to what Pepé does, than what Tavi does. I would recommend you check out some earlier recordings of Pepé playing this piece though, to hear him at the height of his powers.
I like both. This here seems to be less of a performance as it has a casual air about it. Tavi's version is a composed studio recording and does sound better!
When I was around 13 years old I started playing my grandfather's guitar and decided to buy a album of classical guitar music, it happened to be Christopher Parkening's In The Spanish Style and ever since then till now, any time I hear pieces on that album played by other artist I tend to like Parkening's rendition better. Parkening's beautiful tone is hard to surpass.
Qué parte no has entendido?

He is so great ! How he plays clean, touching my soul.
Previously, I thought that he could not get any better, but now I can hear that he can be even better. Back to the roots. Flamenco roots ... ;-)
Like fine wine, Aging wonderfully Pepe!

Sublime, amazing playing by an artist who's dedicated his life to his craft.

¡Olé!
Of course he's good, but the guitar looks like it has a rosewood fretboard or maybe it is just the way the light hits it?

Narciso Yepes so much better!!!!
