It’s so weird to see Pedro Pascal in this pilot knowing how big of a name he is now. Especially when he later appeared in Wonder Woman ‘84 as Maxwell Lord
Pedro Pascale needs some justice, to be in a good Wonder Woman project. Or keep him away from them, because his presence must mean it's going to be a stinker.
I was wondering if you could do a legends of fandom on the proposal from fox for an animated series based of the young Jedi knights novels or if theirs to little to make a video
I totally agree with you, dude. WTH did I just see ?! This pilot made Titans, Batwoman, and even the cancelled live-action version of The Powerpuff Girls look like Oscar winners. Hell, this Wonder Woman is even worse than herself from the Injustice games ! If I were David E. Kelley, I would make Wonder Woman an elementary school teacher on a tropical island instead of a female version of Homelander from The Boys.
Of course Cale knew WW was coming. Her dealer screamed to high heaven in a crowded hospital and was clearly audible down the hallway and through a closed door.
Much like Injustice and New 52, this show is another exemple of people not understanting Wonder Woman character, beliving that she's just a barbaric warrior when the cool thing about Diana is that she may be trained as warrior, but is an ambassador and kind hero, who believes in the best of others and always tries to help people, using force only when necessary. This is why her arch nemesis is Ares, the god of war, who represents hate and violence, things Diana (and her amazon sister) stand against it.
I hate the idea the Women hating men is seen as OK, good feminism, acceptable, and the default for Wonder Woman Also hate when people thin out pus sized characters just to not body shame them Woke us bad true equality means representing every one and making them look good. Not making others look bad.
I love the legal logic. Pedro: "We can't go in there. We don't have a warrant." Adrian: "I'm going in anyway." Pedro: "Oh, then it will be a crime scene and we can go in." It ignores that in that scenario, Wonder Woman is the criminal. That is the core problem with this pilot. EVERYONE except Cale fawns all over her no matter how illegal, immoral, insane, or cruel her actions are. That ending round of applause was utter cringe. She does NOTHING to inspire this kind of loyalty and affection. Think of it, Cary Elwes, famous for playing a pirate with a reputation for leaving no survivors, was more likeable and heroic in that role that WONDER WOMAN!!
I think a lot of the complaints about She-Hulk were rooted in misogyny, and the fact that the ultimate villains of the show turned out to be a bunch of misogynistic internet trolls probably stuck in their craw. Because these types have no sense of irony or self-reflection.
It's actually consistent with Dave E. Kelly's writing. Look at Ally McBeal. She's literally insane, gets away with everything, and everyone loves her for no discernable reason.
Adrianne Palicki has had some bad luck with launching her own superhero show. There was supposed to be an Agents of Shield spinoff with her leading it.
Yeah but they must must follow the comics and give Diana the iconic suit we know and love then have Steve to be her man and lover also bring in her mom and her Amazonians sisters and bring in her villains in from the comics. And also do diana/wonder woman justice.
Here’s an idea for a future legends of fandom. Speaking of Adrianne Palicki… a few year later after this show… she joined agents of shield (PS hope you do an honest review of that show one day) and left after season 3. Then her and Nick Blood were getting their own Marcel tv series Most Wanted. They filmed a pilot but it got canceled the same time agent Carter got cancelled. So that be a good episode of Legends of Fandom: Marvels Most Wanted
If I had a nickel for every time Pedro Pascal teamed up with Wonder Woman, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
The suit is good, and the actress looks like she could have been able to pull off playing the character…..if this had a better script cause oh wow that was bad. If I had a nickel for every time Erica from Smallville put on a Wonder Woman suit and looked like she could have pulled off playing the character I’d have two nickels
Honestly with the amount of cameos the CW universe had, I'm kinda disappointed that they didn't have Adrianne Palicki reprising her role in one of their crossovers. With, of course, a side comment like "This reminds me of that time a supervillain impersonated me to commit crimes and be adored for it, while brainwashing the population into going along with her. Honestly besides the killing, the thing that infuriated me the most was the visible jet I mean come ON."
The thing is the "Organization based around superheros who also sell pharmaceuticals" works so much better when they are the bad guys. This version of Wonderwoman is not too far off from Queen Maeve.
I can't believe you didn't bring up the fact that this pilot uses music from Iron Mans soundtrack! You were right, they were absolutely trying to make Wonder Woman more like Iron Man.
@legoking6165 Perhaps so. I feel Simone does better when she's subject to TV pressures instead of comic book pressures. You know, the kind of mindset and oversight one tends to have vs. the other.
I'd also point out that WW is kind of on shaky ground in supporting a steroid user who's cheating to take another kid's scholarship. He died from his own illegal and immoral act and is treated like an innocent victim.
Yikes, that opening scene with the soon to be college kid having his eyes suddenly bleed felt a heck of a lot like the opening of a House episode. I half expected to see Hugh Laurie brainstorming on causes of bleeding eyes with his coworkers in the next scene. It probably would have been a better show if that had happened. This thing looks awful.
What's crazy to me is Adrianne Palicki looks and feels more like Wonder Woman than Gal Gadot does. The FEW moments where Adrianne Palicki was allowed to act heroic and kind, you could see her as a legit WW. I never got that from Gal Gadot, no not even in the 2017 movie. If only they stayed true to the character and her lore in this would-be pilot.
I've been thinking about that show a lot lately. Specifically about characters I would've really like to see appear in the series and the actors I would've wanted to voice them.
I felt bad for the actors, this was written by focus groups and that wasn't their fault. Bad decisions creatively, for sure. Now, I'm off to put a gold eagle on my chest and make dolls of myself and then yell at people for wanting them right after I pretend to live in an efficiency apartment after I finish my shift as a billionare, but first, to darken these pants.
Ohh, Man I have a lot to say about this. 1: I have never seen anything that is SO inaccurate to the Comics that I have to question if the Guy behind the show paid any attention to the Comics and just made it up. 2: I feel like it tried to fit way..... WAY to many Superhero Tropes in the show relating to Superman & Batman that they have ignored the stuff that made Wonder-Woman.... Well Wonder-Woman and 3: On first glans "in my point of view" the Costume looked like it was gonna be Latex, But looking closely at it.... Not so much "And I was Referring to the Promo stuff"
This kind felt like a return of your classic style of reviewing, so this was a lot of fun. But yeah, after all that, I'm really glad this show didn't happen. By 2011, there was no room was bad inaccurate comic book adaptations. This feels like something from the late 90s-early 2000s, and in a bad way. The only compliment I'll give it is a few good performances, but other than that, I say good riddance.
Legends of fandom idea. The ghostbusters 2 movie was not the original script. Every one showed up on set without knowing the original script was scrapped. What was the original plan for ghostbusters 2?
Any version of Batman/Superman/Green Arrow(Arrow/The Spectre) would team up with Lex Luthor to fight this version of Wonder Woman and send her to the Phantom Zone.... no matter the review I'm learning new information about this pilot.... the more I am really hating this version of Wonder Woman, EVEN BOTH INJUSTICE VERSIONS OF WW would hate her guts!
@legoking6165 Injustice Wonder Woman both versions of her may have been deranged and encouraged Superman to do everything he wanted. Even she had her own morales even if they were corrupt. This pilot Wonder Woman had no morality of any kind and she was still weirdly considered a hero in her own show
They tried this again, years later, with CBS/CW Supergirl, and that somehow lasted 6 years. I'm not going to say "No one can write female heroes", it's just that DC is famous for hiring people who know nothing about, or either hate comics, know nothing about the characters, or how to present them. It's bled into the comics themselves, these days.
I can tell that pilot episode is awful due to the writing and execution, and I'm glad it didn't air. Though, I like Wonder Woman's outfit in this pilot because it looks similar to the look of it in the video game of "injustice gods among us".

However, with current day writing standards, it's best that we don't. They'd probably reach out to horrible writers, like Tom King, Vita Ayala, and Kelly Thompson, or failed producers from the CW, and they'll botch it up, good.
I think the superhero craze has been going down, so it might be to late for a Wonder Woman tv show. And based on this pilot, I don't think that tv show would have been very good, since it was trying to be everything else but Wonder Woman.
They did not research Wonder Woman at all for the pilot.
like are they stupid?!

Ah, memories.

I’ve seen it. I loved when WW busts into the lab, says, “hey, what’s up” then beats them up.
I find it interesting that so many people were complaining about the color of Wonder Woman's pants. Were I'm just grateful that she has them.
I've been really anxious today, so this gave me some much needed laughter to calm down.
I heard that Lynda Carter also hated this pilot.
Did she?
Gee, can't imagine why.

"God forbid"? Which God would that be? Kinda feels like Diana just gained the ire of half of Olympus.
I dunno, the Olympians are known for doing pretty deplorable stuff on the regular.

It's actually consistent with Dave E. Kelly's writing. Look at Ally McBeal. She's literally insane, gets away with everything, and everyone loves her for no discernable reason.
I am getting very strong Karen Starr / Karen Page / powergirl vibes from this pilot. I think the writers got the two superheroes mixed up.

I remember when you referred to Adriane Palicki as the Fake Wonder Woman in your GI Joe review.
The next Legends of Fandom you should do is Mockingbird Lane! (Munsters Reboot)
Adrianne Palicki has had some bad luck with launching her own superhero show. There was supposed to be an Agents of Shield spinoff with her leading it.
Does anyone wish Adrianne Palicki to reprise her role as Wonder Woman for DC TV show, CW show or something?
Yeah but they must must follow the comics and give Diana the iconic suit we know and love then have Steve to be her man and lover also bring in her mom and her Amazonians sisters and bring in her villains in from the comics. And also do diana/wonder woman justice.
Would’ve been amazing If at the end Diana dons a darker costume and starts calling herself Superwoman, revealing this is actually on Earth-3.
Sure. I'll accept that headcanon.
