Timeranger for me, I was hooked by their first mission. They fought "real criminals." Like medical malpractice and kidnapping, and it was so realistic. The kidnapper walked up to the kids and asked, "Do you like video games?" And pulls them into a van.
Excellent video. Hope you had a wonderful holidays. Good thoughts on both Sentai series. I do appreciate with both Timeranger and Time Force they captured their monsters instead of destroying them. Love Time Force one of my favorites! Also Jetix! That was my childhood
“It felt like a long toy commercial” That was Gaoranger’s purpose, Bandai sponsored the show and they went nuts with the 25th anniversary of Sentai. There was even a concept art book showcasing the designs of all the mecha and robots up to 2001 including ones that didn’t make it past the drawing board, PLEX made DOZENS of Gaoranger designs that never made it past sketches and concepts of toy exclusive mecha making new robots. The reason was because they surveyed what animals kids wanted to make into toys and the response was too big to discern into just a few animals. They also wanted to experiment with the limb swap gimmick for mecha that had been briefly played with in short one off episodes like Carranger full time in a show which would carry over with an added gimmick in Hurricanger.
Another great vid and I certainly hope to keep seeing them as you move forward. ^_^ And I can't wait for the honest review of Jentry Chau! More people should see it and I'd love to see it get a second season.
I'll give a lot of props for sitting through Timeranger. I've watched over 32 of the seasons, and I've tried to watch Timeranger twice, but I find the first quarter of the series to just be so incredibly slow. I know it does a lot of things right, and that there's a lot of drama and emotional stakes and the plot is good, but I personally can't sit through the first quarter of the show. I've never really minded that Cole was Tarzan, but I never really considered that his bond to nature was something missing in the team; which is why I don't think being a Vet or being Tarzan matter either way. At the end of the day, the 100 beasts chose their Rangers; so they all would have a bond regardless. I think what really pushes Gaoranger above Wild Force, to me, is that there is an entire second theme of japanese spiritism and folklore behind it. It's Demon Slayer yeeeears before Demon Slayer was even concieved. The Orgs are flat out Oni made of evil energy; and the Spirit Animals are nature itself giving a few humans "providence" to exorcise evil. That is visible in the original 1000 years ago ancient Gao Warriors attire that is just Onmyoji attire (still slightly visible in the numbered sashes on their chest and their combined sword being a Shakujo that 'dispels evil'). That entire aspect of the design is entirely lost in translation, and I think it elevates it a lot. I'm here for the criticism of it being a toy commercial, and I hear it (though there are a lot of worse seasons for that) but I think it is worth remembering this was an anniversary season, and low key the "100" in the title is because if you put all Rangers together then, it would total around 125. And it is something that feels like a thing of the show taking a tumble because of budget, because the implication that this Sentai could have had 100 people, one for each animal, is there the entire time; which is a first in Sentai. Some seasons went out of their way to say how unpractical it would be to train, or to produce more powers, but Gaoranger gets to be earnest and be like "yeah, there's another 94 animals here. Where are the pure of heart people?" And yes, Gaoranger does get a tad annoying with the "colors as temporary names" thing, but that makes for the last episode to be an immense payoff, while it's just an "ah that's... cool?" moment in Wild Force. I'll 100% agree on the celebration being lacking, though; it would be another 5 years before they started celebrating it right. Funny how we have somewhat contrary feelings on both seasons.
Merry Christmas Eric and happy new year! I am excited for Gozyuger, as Super Sentai’s 50th anniversary bash starts when it airs in February! Hopefully, it will be like Kamen Rider’s 50th and last 3 years with all sorts of fun projects, especially since 2026 will be Super Sentai’s 50th season. Gokaiger revealed that Domon did something in the past that preserved the existence of the Timerangers, but it is implied their sacrifice still matters as they can’t go back to our present (The Legend War being the exception) and that hurts Domon the most because he left behind his lover along with something else. Gaoranger was about nature and humans versus what are basically a twist on Japanese Oni, demons who bring misfortune and chaos. The beans used to grow the monsters even reference Oni folklore, as ironically one way to banish Oni from your house is to throw soybeans at them though these evil beans do the opposite and make the Oni stronger.
The reason why Timeranger and Time force have similar stories is because Johnathan Tzachor one of the guys in charge of PR was a massive super sentai fan. He became the showrunner for Wild force and got some of the staff from Gaoranger to work on Wild force that’s how much of a fan he was
I don't know why in Wild Force they made Princess Shayla Merrick's girlfriend but didn't change their chemistry or progress their relationship, keeping it at similar level to their counterpart in Gaoranger. But in Gaorangers, Tetomu was the granddaughter of Ogami's girlfriend so it's normal that their relationship never progress beyond friendship
Judd Lynn left Power Rangers after Time Force because the studio wouldnt let him ends it with Jen staying in the present with Wes (keeping the theme of making your own destiny going)
Funny enough, the actor who played GaoRed got back for a small cameo with other character on the current Super Sentai in a few weeks. The TimeBlue storyarc is awesome, and Domon got an close up on Gokaiger that made me cry. TimeFire actor got back as another asshole on a recent Kamen Rider show, and he transformed with an homage to his old character. I was terrified because that show was dark. My favorite Londraz family criminal was the culinary critic that was convicted for leave without paying and arson. The anniversary special wasn't great, but funny enough learned from it for the next crossovers.
As a Doctor Who fan, the ending of Timeranger shouldn't be able to happen. The virus being released would be a fixed point that has to happen. Stopping it would create a paradox. If the future changes and they were never sent back, then the virus wouldn't be stopped in the first place. I'm glad Time force didn't use that ending. It would've confused kids.
Cole's parents were originally supposed to be tied by the vines by Master Org and were put into suspended animation, once Master Org died, the vines would die and they would have been released

ERod I would recammond for Kamen Rider are Kuuga Zero One them being the frist of there eras so it gives you a good idea of modren Kamen Rider and there both on Tubi
Not that this is not a cool Christmas present but... Why is it you NEVER talk about any Christmas stuff? I think the most we got was the Top 10 Wonderful Life episodes and the Halloween Havoc of the two Krampus movies.

I agree that Wildforce is better, much better even. For me Timeranger is one of the best, while Gaoranger is one of the worst.
