  • The Casio F91-W is a great watch for $10. Although it's not super water resistant, and the illumination is a bit lacking, for $10, what do you want, and it's a solid watch otherwise.
So, this is the best way to spend $10 on your EDC, bar none.

Although he is correct that this is marketed as splash resistant only, the F-91 is known to be submersible without damage. I own two and have repeatedly worn both swimming to a depth of 10 feet. Others have said that they surf & snorkel with no problems. So it pretty much is waterproof, unless you plan to scuba at 100 feet.

1 $ each, 10 $ a dozen in my country. Good for parts for a real f91, especially if like me, you have the old one your daddy bought you as your first watch. For a dollar you could replace the band, and the battery which would only last as long as the band (about a year) I even use the lcd to replace my newer daily driver f91 lcd screen. Even the water resistance rubber seal is useful for parts.

after 10 years (original battery so no worries about that, original everything) the strap of all things is starting to fail, it started to show cracks and after a bit of time it cracked all the way through, looked at replacement straps although unsuccesfull I came to the conclusion that it would cost more to replace the straps than it is to buy a new one
so I decided to repair it, I drilled 4 holes and threaded some thread through it. I had to repair 3 spots with a 4th one on the way
after 3 months a new crack appeared near to my repair (which was no surprise to me) but it meant that I had to think of a new solution

Just bought an F-91W yesterday--I hadn't owned one since high school. I'd forgotten how great they were: big numbers, loud chime/alarm, so light you forget you're wearing it. I'm used to big watches that either get caught on things or flop around on my arm, so a good cheap digital watch this low-profile is fantastic.

  • @crezzwell

This F-91W is capable of a lot more than it get credit for. All the contestants on Celebrity SAS: Who Dres Wins were issued casio F-91W watches and they were doing everything including jumping out of a helicopter into a scottish lake and swimming back to shore etc. So these watches can put up with a lot more abuse. I've just ordered one to wear for my work and fishing and shooting etc.

I worked a summer job as a quick service oil change tech and this was perfect. It's slim enough that it rarely got caught when reaching around an engine bay. It got covered in oil, degreaser, coolant, and more. I would give it a rinse at the end of the day and put it right back on. It held up great, but even if it failed after all that abuse it was $10. Far from classy, but slim and utilitarian.

Since this watch is so cheap, sturdy as fuck and impressive battery life, it's used by bomb makers for their home made explosives. • @wotan20
    @wotan20 5 лет назад +2

Fine review, because it stated the characteristic of this legendary watch honestly and factually, except the innate 'security hazard' of wearing one, which was overstated and sensationalized. Nobody will get suspicious, just because he or she is wearing this watch, although I would hesitate to carry more than one into a plane, let's say if you want to have spare available in case you loose it, while you swimming on your holiday or something like that. In summary, this is a very popular classic of which many people are found of. One of the sign of this popularity, that Casio makes a few version of it continuously, so they are available side-by side to this one, the basic version. One is the illuminator version of this watch (F-105W), which is identical to the F-91W, except the vastly improved night illumination. The price difference is only a few bucks, so it is a worthy upgrade to consider. For those, who don't like the black plastic case and band, Casio makes stainless steel versions of both the F-91W as well as the upgraded F-105W. Their prices range around the $20-25 and it makes these otherwise superefficient utility watches to markedly better looking watches, which are supremely wearable to any wardrobe, to any occasion. Casio even makes a gold tone metal variety too for $35, but that is a bit over the top for me, and somewhat garish in my estimation, but I heard that it is liked by ladies of all ages.

As per Casio, that's 7 years presumed if you use daily alarm which is 20 seconds, and use a second of light per day. Since this is barely the case, it goes for 10 years easily. By that time the watch gets all shiny and rounded like a river pebble. And, sometimes the strap mount would break off. :D I know, I've seen it, as this has been my watch of choice for a long, long time now.

I wear it whenever I want something small, like at the gym, or something disposable. I'd never destroyed once, so I feel no need for the G-Shock.
I never had a problem taking a shower or swimming at a lake or pool while wearing it. Worth trying with that low price.

i've had one of these on my wrist nearly every day for 5+ years, and although nick says that you should not get into watches, this watch should be considered an exception. "fashion" for me is more about having the simplest thing that can do the job, and this watch hits the mark... with everyone carrying phones, watches seem a lot less useful, especially for the money you spend to have a "nice" one, but the convenience of a watch that has a battery that lasts for way more than 5 years is really great. a cell phone dies, but i wake up with this watch ticking on my bedside table every morning never having thought about "power reserve" or charging. i honestly think everyone should have a handful of these floating around. for $10 they are just so accurate and forgetting them in a drawer for years until you need them isnt really a big deal. plus i'm never afraid to go ahead and where it when there is a chance it'll get the hell beat out of it. love this watch.

I really should find myself nice digital watch too, I like watches that won't attract comments. And maybe wearing one of these 80's style rubberband ones would do the trick. It's a great beater for working in a shed or as a sports watch, because it's cheap and light, so you don't worry that much about damaging it.

I'd buy this watch only because it's such a classic, an icon in the world of watches. I'm probably not gonna wear it because it's too small for my wrist and it may not say the right things to the right people, in Nick's own words. Still, in terms of telling the time a watch like this is all you really need, right?

Too small? In 2017 Casio released a model called the W217, essentially a bigger F91W. Looks the part but is bigger.

Honestly the F-91W is one of my all time favorite watches. Yeah, it's got that terrorist stigma to it, but it's also incredibly iconic. Everyone has worn one of these bad boys - even former president Obama. I like mine a ton. Gets more wrist time than some of my higher end pieces.

You can definitely shower with it, and it has been known to survive swimming sessions. It's more water-resistant than you think.

I've had many of these. Throw it in your pack. Throw it in the car. Throw it in your locker at work and school. Every once in a while I'll hear the alarm, and go searching for it. Neglecting daylight savings, this watch is never more than a minute or so off. Over years!
Addendum: This watch, and an Opinel is all I need for picknics. :D

I had one of these as my first watch when I was like 10 years old or younger. Then I upgraded to a G-shock when I was a few years older.
Now thanks to your channel nick I've found my self getting back into watches. Specifically vintage Seiko digitals. I've always been a seiko fanboy, since it seems all my favorite scoff movies the hero or arms other character always had a cool nerdy seiko. I just bought myself a NOS Seiko UC-2200 with NOS keyboard and printer. Yes you read that right a watch with a Qwerty keyboard and a Printer. So now I'm going to be collecting Seiko vintage computer watches.....Thanks Nick!

Hey, why the fuck does Timex make watches that tick so loudly? What the fuck is up with that? Also, the thing with the Casio G-Shock-type watches is that stupid O-ring that has the straight-edge at one bottom. Can't get the O-ring back in place right after you change the battery, thus destroying the waterproofness. WTF is up with that, too???

No one is in Guantanamo Bay for wearing this watch. People have been subjected to questioning and searches because of it. Perhaps if that inquiry turned up something you might find yourself listening to daily prayers Remember to face east.

I have the W59-1V and I love it. It's basically identical to the F-91 but it's got decent water resistance for a few bucks more. Also for what it's worth I wasn't stopped through security on my way to and from France, so that's good, I'm not a terrorist!

This is my watch and I love this review. Also for the water resistance thing, I would disagree with your assessment. I have taken this watch into many showers and a few pools and it has came out just fine. Maybe I'm lucky?
