I grew up surfing Florida. Our waves have way less power. Off shore winds can slow you down enough to make perfect "looking" waves useless. The wind at your back can give you just enough extra speed to make horrible "looking" waves super fun. I love east coast chop. Sure... light off shore with 2' overhead is great. But we get that so seldom that it isn't really part of the picture. You just surf it when it happens..... and surf slop the rest of the time.... and thank God for airplanes.
