Im Kelly;s age...Growing up I thought 30 was old. Guys like Kelly, Tom Brady, Randy Couture have shown that age isnt really a barrier......treat ur body well folks.
It seems like the belief that getting older automatically equals being less physically and mentally capable of doing things like surfing is a myth that has become most of our truths. Due to the majority of humans telling themselves that's the way it is and passing this on from generation to generation. There's plenty men and women in their 40's, 50's, 60's and beyond that are more physically fit then most 20 year olds. It's because on a regular basis they exercise, eat healthy, and take other actions to continuously improve and strengthen thier minds and bodies. It's sad when I hear someone say, " I'm to old to do that. "
Every time I have a chance to watch Kelly surf whether its in a contest or free surfing, I get super excited. He brings to the table that something, that X factor, that leaves my jaw agape and my head shaking every time. Thats the way its been since he emerged on tour. I unashamedly admit, I love him and his outlook on life. Bravo Kelly. May your legacy live for as long as it should.
100% agree, if slater isn't in a comp, or he looses, i immediately lose 80-90% interest. I know what to expect with the other competitors.. But with Kelly, you never know what he will pull out, a crazy foam ball 10, or a shocking full rotation. I also believe his turns and carves are the best on tour and are more pleasing to the eye, his style combined with how insanely in the pocket his moves are. Gutted he won't be in el Salvador, I hope he wins J-Bay and Chopes and competes in the top 5. He can still win a title, he is underscored consistently and has had horrible luck most of this year, with ideal set waves going to his competitors within the dying seconds, like clock-work, uncanny how bad his heat luck has been in terms of lulls etc since Pipe. Would be cool if the tour only went in hollow pumping waves, he would have 20 titles.. Technically he should have 13 titles, due to the overscored Mick Fanning 'roll in' at pipe 2012 I think (which caused Slater to lose the title and Yadin to be knocked off tour), and also the year he skipped Brasil then it came down to the wire at Pipe (when Parko won), had he not skipped Brasil he would have won that year quite easily. Anyway can't wait to see him at the next comp after El Salvador
People will say Kelly should have retired after winning Pipe including myself. However, watching him either win or loose is magical. Kelly you are larger then surfing now. You are the tiger woods of surfing! A true Legend! Thank you Kelly for everything you do in the water and out! Brevard county Florida! Let’s go…
I'm not a surfer nor am I familiar with the surfing world in general but Kelly seems like just a really nice guy, passionate about the life but even when things aren't going his way, he will always try and find time to take a pic with a fan or have a chat about how he surfed. Nice change in a world full of prima donna athletes more interested in their social media pages then anything else.
Agree with some of the commentators. In the 50’s and seeing Slater working on the same exercises and stretches in the morning that I do. Feels like validation that we are all on similar paths, even thought we are not because he is the goat!
He makes it look so easy, ripping the shit outa those waves, in all conditions…and he’s 50 years old…GOAT…never be another like him…thanks for making these vids WSL.
@@tomw2687 that's just lairds personalityi but for q guy who's older than Kelly the stuff he does is mind boggling at his age. I think we can all appreciate his influence on surfing and I use the word surfing in the context of competition but also surfing culture. I'm personally not looking forward to when he retires but hope he stays connected to the tour because just his presence gives fans/surfers alike something to aspire to.
Crazy trip through a mans eyes. Seems so unshaken so zoned in. It’s a refreshing perspective to see he truly is human after being a super human for damn near two decades
Thanks for a great era of surfing. From the Shaun Tomson, Gerry Lopez generation to my kids growing up with Andy Irons, Kelly Slater (and so many more!) ~San Clemente
I grew up in Cambria Ca. Back in the 90's. All the surf boys looked to you. You have grown up and have become a fine role model. As long as you love yourself it does not matter what anyone says. Keep following your heart.
For me, Kelly doesn't need to be the best surfer on any given day. He's done it more than enough times in any conditions through his life and competitive career to earn the right not to, and to still be considered the best of all time. As much as I am, and so many would be forever interested in his surfing, I'm equally, if not more interested in the human. Just like his surfing, there's so much depth there. That's equally as interesting, that's equally as compelling, that's amazing. I am so stoked to watch this series.
This men is just a huge legend Alive! I just sow all of his compets , the work and the huge prep behind are as big as his best heats ! Thank You Kelly Slater
I place Kelly at the same level of Cristiano Ronaldo, Novak Djokovic and very few other legends in different sports... They are people that pushed their discipline into a whole next level. The Holistic approach is the next big thing for high level professionals. These mens are showing the way I'm feeling so so inspired watching these guys
I used to think Kelly should retire but now I love that Kelly is still at it, so good. Shows that despite what we all do the common theme is dealing with ego and the human condition.
So proud of you Kelly, yes the GOAT to me your worldly but, still a Florida boy always! Keep up the great success. Thank you WSL for this short flim, 🙏 cheers!
Kelly's achievements create an outstanding roadmap. But the most valuable info may be in how he found a love of surfing that is without equal. That love and it's natural ability to illuminate lifes possibilities and undiscovered factors. How he sustained that love and his epiphany with doing what he loved most and payed handsomely all fell into the one thing he balanced perfectly.

The crazy thing you can learn from climbing is, so often it seems its not possible. And then you expereince its possible, one time after the other. To just forget and unlearn thinking in possible or not possible. You should try that 1 day.
Back when Kelly Slater was a kid the Sebastion Inlet had an incredible wave at First peak directly North of the North Jetty. 2nd and 3rd peak were good but not even close to the refractive energy of 1st peak, That wave bounced of a solid cement slab wall and doubled up with a lot of power and a throwing lip.
