A friend of mine, who is a Bach enthusiast, told me he didn't know how this could have been played any better. I have listened to Lim's 2022 Van Cliburn Piano Competition performances, and have been astounded and thrilled to have heard Yunchan's lyrical interpretations and subtleties throughout them. I particularly loved his playing of Beethoven's Eroica Variations and his playing of Liszt's 12 Transcendental Etudes. Yunchan is an amazing pianist. He has given me endless enjoyment re-listening to all of his performances and I wish him the best in his continued concert career.
You saw him right! He also has an amazing heart and mind. Yunchan said in an interview that he often deliverately cuts himself from modern things or social media to fully interact with the original composer and be immersed in the music itself. He said there's a magma-like singing inside him but to perfectly express that beauty of the song he needs to practice sometimes overnight, go beund/past the skills, to the realm of pure art/music.. He also said his purpose of playing the piano is to express the pain deep inside us and to heal the people, again with music. What a rare kind of true artist!
@@Dh-uj8pr Thank you, D h. Yunchan's love for piano and music stands out in his playing and words, expressed in the interview you alluded to: [ENG] 북한서도 볼텐데, 어떻게 생각하냐 물으니... Voice of America'와의 인터뷰와 즉석 연주!. It seems that the reason Yunchan Lim and Nobyushi Tsujii play the piano is the same. In Nobu's documentary, he said (translated from Japanese), "I don't care my results. I wanted to dreamy performance for audience more than my result." This was just after his win in the biggest competition in Japan when he was 11 (30,000 competitors). Documentary of Nobuyuki Tsujii "Road to the World" (2012) with English subtitles 「世界の辻井伸行」. Both of them are, as you wrote, rare kinds of artists who practice and perform for the right reasons. Yunchan's Cliburn performances were sublime, as they were in the Isangyun Competition in 2019 when he won 1st prize.
I have listened to Yunchan's Cliburn performances and as many as I could find when he was younger, for hours every day. You are right. It feels so good. If you love this- and how could you not-don’t miss Yunchan Lim’s performance of Bach’s 3-Part Inventions. His performance is almost too good to be believed. *(I left time stamps in the comments section.)* Here’s the link: ruclips.net/video/AMo-XoSkPxc/видео.html 😎🎹

the answer is KEMPFF.... BACHAUS.... do not forget!
The fugue is fantastic. Very stylish without sounding manicured. Prelude captures the winsome mood.

Thank you young Yunchan, this somewhat laidback prelude and the frisky little fugue were beautifully performed and nicely interpreted.
