Check out his performance of the Transcendental Etudes from the semi final round of the Cliburn. My wife and I were his host family during the Cliburn. His typical practice schedule was starting around 1-2 pm, finishing around 4 am. He would take a short break, 30 minutes or so, for dinner that his mom cooked. I typically made him something to eat around 1 am. He likes toasted English muffins with butter and strawberry preserves. He never drank coffee only water. During practice, he would play a short passage several times, recording himself on his phone. Then listen to himself. Repeat the process until he was satisfied. He frequently would change the rhythm of a passage. I ask why. He said so I can get my fingers to be equal. He loves trees. Our house is so quiet now that he has returned to Korea. What an honor to have shared our lives with such a phenomenal person. Bravo Yun-chan!

Yunchan Lim is beyond magical in this performance! The energy and passion he displays is extraordinary!! His talent is stunning in every way. His poise and ease with the piano is like they are one. The keys in his complete control! I have never seen a classical piano performance to equal this for Lim. I'm assuming he is around 16 years of age...bravo a million times! His music warms my mind, heart and soul with so much feeling!

It comes as no surprise as Korea has an international reputation for educating extremely talented musicians. Music teachers worldwide talked of Korea having a cluster of extreme talent in music.... and the was back in the late 80s and early 90s of last century.

Wow, those leaps at the end were perfectly executed. I have never heard any pianist nail those leaps live! He's so young but he plays maturely. Only a few people I have ever heard play so maturely at a very young age. He deserved the first place he's rare.
This was obviously recorded before the Cliburn competition. Most of us now have had a chance to hear this exceptional pianist and artist because of the well deserved gold medal win in Fort Worth. If I had stumbled on this recording before all of that, I would have been simply amazed. Was he 17 at this time? The world is a better place because of the ability and vision of young Mr. Lim. No pressure though! Lol!
Just so beautiful and pure! I dare say as a korean musician myself that yunchan represent everything we have strived and hoped to achieve. Truly a national treasure.
@@neilford99 there are thousands and thousands of pianists practicing almost 24 hr each day ( I’m working in this business) with excellent genes, they achieve very high level, but it’s not something beyond human power, considering Lim’s age , I checked every his record since he was 14. Take Yuja Wang, she is also phenomenal, but to me she seems a mutant who’s physical ability is ahead of her generation, I listened to her concerts every year in Carnegie and in the beginning of her career she seemed only sensational, later she became musician. With Lim it’s different.

First time hearing this. It is unbelievable.
He is the gold medalist in the 16th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition (2022).
2년전 16살에 기교는 말 할것도 없고 곡에 대한 자신만의 해석이 이렇게 명확했다니 이번 반클에서 원래 연습때보다 30%정도 밖에 표현 못 했다는 말을 이해하겠어요. 앞으로 저에게 출구는 없겠어요~^^

어느분이 윤찬군 피아노와 파우스트 영상을 함께 편집해 올렸는데 너무나 아름답고 윤찬군의 3번의 손키스의 의미를 알고 보니 새삼 윤찬 피아니스트 대단하네요 벌써 그내용을 알고 피아노 치며 퍼포먼스도 함께 했다는게 16살에 놀라운 연주를 했네요
와~손키스를 언급하는 댓글보고 찾아보다가 이 사실을 알고 깜짝 놀랐네요 그냥 천재가 아니었네요 ㅠ

This was obviously recorded before the Cliburn competition. Most of us now have had a chance to hear this exceptional pianist and artist because of the well deserved gold medal win in Fort Worth. If I had stumbled on this recording before all of that, I would have been simply amazed. Was he 17 at this time? The world is a better place because of the ability and vision of young Mr. Lim. No pressure though! Lol!
We don’t know the exact date of this his performance, but many of his fans assume around 14~15 years old.

@@neilford99 there are thousands and thousands of pianists practicing almost 24 hr each day ( I’m working in this business) with excellent genes, they achieve very high level, but it’s not something beyond human power, considering Lim’s age , I checked every his record since he was 14. Take Yuja Wang, she is also phenomenal, but to me she seems a mutant who’s physical ability is ahead of her generation, I listened to her concerts every year in Carnegie and in the beginning of her career she seemed only sensational, later she became musician. With Lim it’s different.
