- Mantis Fist is one of the four famous fists from east China's Shandong Province. This treasured Chinese martial arts technique dates back to the end of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). It belongs to the category of pictographic fists. Legend has it that a man named Wang Lang based the technique on the moves of a mantis hunting cicadas. It has no blocking position and all the moves are offensive. #ChinaKungfu

螳螂拳是中國拳術中一個很大的系統，南北也有很多不同分枝，打擊 擒拿 關節術，甚至摔技也有包含。
擒拿和打擊 混合使用，當中含有針對人正常反應的打擊方法，比較少見，像擒拿但卻變成打擊，以拉著對手前臂拉前攻擊產生對沖增加破壞力。以擒握對手前臂，令對手正常反應發力脫離，作迫近/ 形成防禦空缺/放開對手反擒另一位置等等，變化很大專拳術。
螳螂拳非常看重雙前臂 ，當中像詠春一樣，重點精華就是在雙前臂上，聽過前輩的解說，一般遇上螳螂拳對手，當被他雙前臂貼著自己前臂，大都只能選後退，那是螳螂拳發揮優勢的情況。
可惜我沒學過，不知道打法和原理，只被告知那是很難應付的情況，如果遇上螳螂拳對手，在前臂被對方接觸情況下必需馬上脫離前臂的接觸。

What do You mean by real fight? UFC, MMA are not real fights. Those are sport with restricted time and rules. Real fight has no time limit and no stupid and restricted rules. Mantis style kungfu focuses to attack the vital points such as eyes, throat etc. Kungfu is not a sport, kungfu is meant to real fight or to kill. Kungfu aims to criple the opponents within the fastest time.
Nice dance, but don't try to fight. Running would be better.

That's because they are so called masters. The thing is if you don't train and don't compete how good are you at fighting really? Those masters may be experts in the performance aspect of Kung Fu but not the combative. A lot of the combative knowledge of Kung Fu has been lost unfortunately. If you took a person who learned a little mma, the basic strikes and a bit of wrestling/grappling, how well would they fare against someone who competes and trains competitively? It's basically what happened to those so called Kung Fu masters, without actual fighting all it is fantasy and I am saying this as a Kung Fu practitioner myself. Real Kung Fu can be used in combat but its not always the most intuitive thing for a person to a learn to the point of impracticality. The learning curve can be actually steep compared to MMA which is why you'd have more success with MMA. Sometimes its the Aesthetics over the function. When you strip down that aesthetic aspect your left with Sanda/Sanshou which is more closer to MMA or Kickboxing at least.
