@@Michael-ks1sn i get that i still prefer the hobbit over the lord of the rings. and i don’t see how it’s bad that most of it is CGI. it looks pretty good. some stuff in lord of the rings looks kinda dodgy if i’m being honest

just because its CGI it makes the movie worse? Also the novel and the movies are not about bilbos story, its about his adventure with the dwarves so obviously he is going to be 'equal' to the other characters because the dwarves were with bilbo throughout 99% of the adventure and he made excellent connections with them
it just feels to me like a lot of the hate is illogical

@@Michael-ks1sn and? Why bother taking stabs at the movies for not being 100% faithful to the book. Said book is a lot more kid-oriented than lotr, which does not fit the feel of jackson's films.
I think the movies tried and succeded at turning a children's book into the epic tale that it should be. And this is not to say the book is bad, far from it, but the movies pay much more attention at developing and establishing characters that aren't bilbo and thorin, and making azog have a personal grudge against thorin gave us a proper overarching villain, and a very menacing one.
However, if you don't agree with me, i respect it, but please do not tell people they shouldn't have fun watching these movies

I am a big fan of the book and have re-read it many times. In the second half of the book, there was a dedicated time for secondary characters, telling the story of Bard, Thranduil, and the preparation for the Battle of Five Armies, where Bilbo and the dwarves took a back seat. Dwarves were never as prominent as Bilbo in the movies (except for Thorin), which I actually consider a missed opportunity.
Let's be honest, the book sometimes doesn't dedicate enough time to Thorin. It almost forgets about him from the moment of the Unexpected Party until the scene in Mirkwood when Gandalf departs. He speaks just a couple of lines here and there. I distinctly remember that in the Goblin caves, he asks Dori to help carry Bilbo, and then asks the Dori again to help Bilbo climb the trees. Thorin is a crucial character in the story, and giving him more time in the adaptation does not equate to "disrespect for the original material."
As a fan of the book, I am not against seeing more of Thranduil or Bard (who only appears in the book after Smaug attacks Esgaroth). Was the Council's confrontation with the Necromancer mentioned in the book? Yes. Did I want to see it in the adaptation in action? Absolutely. Did I want to see more of Gandalf and where he goes after Mirkwood? Yes. Do I mind seeing Smaug and Thorin actually interact with each other? No.
Alfrid is a mess, the romantic subplot is a mess. And they ruined Beorn (my poor Beorn). But overall, I still mostly like everything else.
To some of you fans, you need to come to your senses. Yes, these movies are weaker than LOTR, but stop calling them trash just because there's more CGI and you watched some angry videos on RUclips. These movies, despite being made in a rush, are still made with love by Peter Jackson, Philippa Boyens, and Fran Walsh. The same people who adapted LOTR for you.
(Saying that the trolls have bad CGI shows that you haven't seen truly terrible graphics. Weta did an excellent job, especially with Smaug)

I thank the whole Universe and all the higher powers for the fact that I live at the same time with these films and can watch them as many times as I want. And, of course, I don't forget about Harry Potter, Miyazaki, The Chronicles of Narnia and Wes Anderson.
