    So it looks like I missed a couple of things in my analysis. I’ll clear those up here:
    Wings are actually not the only device to disappear - others like the balloon can as well (so you can’t get infinite height), but you usually won’t come across it in regular gameplay.
    It seems that batteries actually disappear in the order they’re attached instead of by size, I just happened to attach the 3 small ones first.
    I also received a science lesson from you guys about how hot air balloons need the outside air to be cooler so the hot air can rise😅
    I think some of these discrepancies took place because I wrote the script relatively soon after the game released… so we found out more about how things worked while I was editing. I will be more thorough next time I make a video like this.

      I also had small wheels disappear when I drove around with my tank for a very long time (something between 30 and 60 min). It suddenly started flashing like wings or balloons. And: Balloons disappearing was a big nuissance for me because I regularly glued bundled wood in the opening and lit it on fire to get "permanent" lift. That also stopped my plans for building an airship using the boats on Tenoko Island. I got one to fly with 6 balloons with the burning wood.

    5:00 Hot air rises because it's less dense than relatively cooler air. Since the air inside and outside the balloon are the same temperature, it won't rise. The game happens to agree in this case, though I doubt this was programmed intentionally.

    • @keatonfox1874
      @keatonfox1874 Год назад +228

      To elaborate further in case anyone was curious, hot air is less dense because the molecules are moving faster, and thus take up more space. Imagine a room full of kids bouncing all around. They represent hot air molecules. Fewer kids fit in the room because they're all running into each other constantly. If you calm them down (representing cooling molecules), suddenly you can fit more in the room because they're now able to stand closer together.
      Just don't ask me to explain why a room full of excited children would float on top of a room of calm children...

    Slight addendum for rockets; this applies to fans, too (sort of.) It will never increase height, but that doesn't mean you don't need more rockets. It's about weight; heavier devices WILL need more rockets. The floating blocks disappear based on distance, though some of the ones that already exist in the world are actually based on a specific bounding box rather than any specific distance. The wings however seem to be based on fight time rather than distance, you can get them to go quite far if you attach sufficient propulsion but they don't get very far at all if you use them as a barebones glider.

    Thrust for things like fans, rockets, and balloons work by 2 main factors. First is the power; how much weight it can move, and second is the max velocity. • @IceBloo
      @IceBloo Год назад +7

      @@gr3enmachin369 not really. I’m not gonna claim it’s 2:1 because I haven’t tested it myself but the red part is wider when the drain is bigger. So if you end it on the left side of the red part it’s less accurate. For example say if something drains super fast and the red part is as wide as an entire bar that would make it so the left part will touch the line the instant you turn it on. Whereas something that has half the drain would take X amount of time for the red bar to touch it on the left. That would mean one thing took 0 seconds to drain and the other thing would take infinity times more time to drain.
      You have to test by draining it so that the bar itself is completely black to get an accurate value.
      To better illustrate it, imagine if the red part signals how much power is drained in a second. And let’s say one device takes 8 seconds to drain a bar. When you turn it on it’ll be green for 7/8 of it and red for 1/8. It’ll take 7 seconds for the red part to touch the left side of the bar. If you use two of the same device and it drains twice as fast the red bar would start at 1/4 of the bar and the green would be 3/4. Draining at 2 bars a second it would take 3 seconds for the red part to touch the left part of the bar. That’s 3 seconds vs 7 when it should be 4 seconds vs 8. It won’t be the same ratio simply because you use the same endpoint. The red bar changing width makes a significant difference. It might not use twice the power still but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t test the most accurate way possible. Better way would be to test it with a zonai battery or from a game save with no upgrades and see how long the full battery drain takes.

    Large wheels actually disappear like wings after being used for long enough too, as well as sleds I have heard (I only experienced the wheels myself though)
    Also batteries disappear in either the order they're placed or whatever order prevents them from shedding any connections (using them to hold two sections of a craft in place can stage vehicles as the ones connected to less parts of the craft will disappear first, making multistage rockets possible)

    FYI, wings AND balloons start flashing after 60 seconds and disappear after another 15 seconds (only timed the wing, but the balloons feel like the same time limit, but it might be different). It’s not based on distance. And rockets and cooking pots disappear after use as well. So there’s at least 4 devices that disappear.
    Edit: just saw your comment adding some info. I will say I’ve had balloons disappear multiple times in regular play. Going from ground level to some of the higher islands isn’t even possible with a single balloon.

    The wing is NOT the only Zonai device that will disappear after being used for a certain amount of time.
    The standard hover bike that seems to be everyone's favorite vehicle does the same thing, it just lasts a looooot longer.
    I found this out because I was hunting around for the light dragon to grab the mastersword and didn't realize it was waaaaaaaay up in the air so I was flying around all over hyrule closer to the ground. It took, I don't recall exactly, 20-30 minutes of use. Maybe even a little longer, but eventually my hover bike did the same thing where it flashed green a few times then despawned.
    While this time limit is so long it "should" never really be a problem, it does absolutely 100% happen.
    Also, the Hot air balloon one makes perfectly logical sense. It would not and SHOULD not fly in a hot environment. The whole principal that makes hot air balloons work in the first place is that the INTERIOR is hotter than the EXTERIOR. If the temperature inside the balloon is the same air temperature as the air outside, it would not fly. Even Avatar the Last Airbender knew this when they made their cartoon because when Zuko's hot air balloon flew over a boiling lake, the air around them was so hot the balloon crashed because it could no longer fly.

    Love your video! About the hot air balloon, IRL physics, it's not necessarily the hot air that makes a balloon rise. It's the difference in density. "Hot" air is expanded and less dense than the cooler denser air around it, so it rises. In a hot environment the air inside the balloon and outside are the same temperature and density so it doesn't rise. unless you put a flame device and make the internal air even hotter and less dense. That one got me at first but physics.
    Very cool video! I wondered about some of these just never tested.

  • @SirJerric

    I have personally been referring to device disappearance as "burn out."
    Rockets are the most obvious case, where it appears to be based on time powered, possibly not including the wind-up time(s).
    Batteries are also obvious, burning out with power drained by the other devices.
    Wings burn out based on time actively gliding (perhaps distance traveled, good luck scientifically finding the distinction).
    Hot air balloons burn out with time heated/stretched.
    Large platforms burn out with horizontal distance (possibly from point of origin), as far as I could tell. I used up two pairs of balloons and multiple upward rockets in one case while dragon chasing, and got to hang around at +2400 for a long time, but other platforms start blinking with only a little island hopping.
    Fans burn out with time powered. This one is long. Long enough to cross the whole map with a hoverbike/hovertrike (two or three fan models). I found this out while spiraling around illuminating every lightroot in Hebra/Tabantha with a side trip to fill in Satori Canyon. You are more likely to lose the fans in a bad landing bounce or to a Frox eating the build (yeah, that happened) than to experience burn out. (If you want to try this, do yourself a favor and attach a dragon scale or throw a giant brightbloom on the build for extended persistence range.)
    Speaking of hoverbikes, I do not have a confirmed burn out on steering sticks yet. Nor on stabilizers (I have a watercraft that uses both), nor on either type of wheel.
