The stock suspension is actually pretty composed and does a pretty darn good job for being an all-around setup. You won't break lap records, but you'll feel like a track hero. It's very impressive what Subaru did to the suspension compared to previous gens.
Agreed, the suspension on the latest gen is far superior to the older gens.
I love the '15 WRX and it is an intelligently tuned car, capable of winning at the track and being a daily driver. Something I want for my older WRX. It's a tribute to Chris' skills and expertise that he gets this much more out of an already stellar platform.
Crazy to think that's on stock suspension, although I really was impressed with the stock WRX
at no point did the car owner claim 400WHP he said 300 at the wheels. Your description says it's a 400whp car.
maybe full boost its 400whp but he tuned it 300whp for track ?
Lisa Lowery I believe it was meant to be in air quotes "400whp"
You forgot to add the 130WHP for the stickers lol
but he mentioned that huge sticker too didn't he
Sorry folks, that was a typo. Should have read 300whp, but we've changed the description to something more fitting.
it really looks like he should be working on suspension than power
That induction SWWWSHSHSHSHSH, love it!
Need my WRX featured. 25mm Race comp rear sway, RCE yellow springs, ETS muffler delete, IAG AOS (not installed yet), COBB J and mid pipes (not installed yet), deciding on TMIC or FMIC. Good stuff. Dude rode the he'll out of your engine. :(
That FA sounds good dammit. It’s really growing on me. No rumble but damn 👍🏿.
300 is very safe on 2015. My 01 runs 304hp on dyno tune on 18psi. on (98ron).
PS a Gc8 with over 400hp would monster that 2015 theres a 300kg or so diff.
Good luck with the build. once you start moding it never stops.
I drive an STi and I can definitely tell the difference in suspension, cornering and braking. the transmission and diff will help him a lot.
Skyler Gabriele OMG the STI by far has the better but it's also a $40,000 car for $5000 through cob I can easily change that dimension
Bob Jones not in terms of open diffs vs dccd
I've been eyeballing Touge Tuning as a Canadian source for Subaru parts, I live in Edmonton so they'd still have to be shipped but at least it's nice to know they've got a decent reputation. (There isn't really anywhere in Edmonton that sells stuff in-stock and I've heard weird things about the place in Red Deer, so might as well buy from Ontario.)
Chris and the guys at Touge are great with customer service and I'm sure they'd be happy to ship to Edmonton. Give them a call!
hahaha Canadian Tsukuba. it really does look like that whenever i watch you guys drive the track.
Awesome video guys! That's a beast of a wrx!!!
Canada's Tsukuba Circuit! That's what I call TMP as too lol. Man you guys are the best haha
Haha, when we actually went to Tsukuba, we were blown away by how awesome of a track it is. TMP needs a lot of work to get there!
just some pads on 4 corners will double the brake response and initial bite.
LastHumansGarage the car actually was having pad knock back which we discovered at the end of the day when Chris and Dave chatted about their laps.
not familiar with the term, but do you mean the retaining clips were broken, which keep the pads in place properly in between braking? I switched to Stoptech last week, and the first day it felt like going to Brembos in feel. But now I'm used to it.. way better than stock for like $100.
LastHumansGarage it's when the pads get pushed away from the rotor, usually during a corner where the hub deflects. When the pads wear down this can become an issue on track and you have to pump the pedal between corners to get the pressure back. Fresh pads and a good clean and lube fixes it usually unless your pistons are sticking.
ah ya, thanks for the tips. funny how the oem retainer clips job is to push the pads away from the rotor when not braking, yet it has the opposite feature when pads get worn down.
LastHumansGarage dude is not about breaking power pull your head out of your ass. It's all about getting ace Spenton the composer you out of the corner duh
Mine will stop at Stage2+. Anything higher and I worry about the angled con rods.
I think you definitely could be faster with less gear changes but fun to watch!
did you try a lap staying in 3rd in some of those corners instead of downshifting to 2nd? I feel like the torque would be enough to go a bit faster by staying in 3rd but I'm behind a keyboard instead of there.
This is exactly how Chris drives, 3rd everywhere except one corner. Dave should have taken his advice but he's old and stubborn.
garrett2jz as I was watching it I was thinking stay in third stay in third stay in third! I have a '16 and the torque starts at 2-3krpm more than enough to roll around that track in 3rd and saving time on all the shifts.
Christian J Funicelli I have a 16 ...what mods wake these up?
omfg Chris got massive
Seemed like way too much wheel into it in almost all the corners?
So, we'll be seeing you guys at WTAC 2017 in Sydney, yeah? I'm flying into Sydney tonight from Brisbane, it will be my second year at WTAC (I am not competing lol).
We'd sell a kidney to be at WTAC right now. Such an epic event. Someday we'll make it!
7:33 it sounds so good😍
I would Love to See you testing the RA on Track !
Folding the seats down for more noise, thats how you do it!
nice video not really a subie fan but i enjoyed this
I think he need DS3000 or DS Uno in front, bilstein shock's (on stock springs). And Hankook RS3 is faster tire for sure. (on budget)
more on SA cars pls.
Driving it like an NA. Might be more power a little lower than 6500
Absolutely. Should have used the midrange. Rookie move by the old DP.
downshift into redline and bounce off the rev limiter. it'll be fun lol
Are the seats folded down to lower the center of gravity?
Nope, just to accommodate transporting the spare set of wheels and tires etc.
Lol
You mentioned that you ordered a STI transmission swap. I really would like to do that to get rid of the auto in my '10 forester XT one day, but where do you find one? Do shops sell them or do you just find a wrecked/parted out STI?
ebay, craigslist, and some shops have them for sale on the internets.
Hey guys love your videos. I live in Toronto and I have a few friends that have cars and we would love to come up there and beat on them for a bit, can you please post any information in regards to the track and this event or information on any event we can get in on? Thanks in advance.
We pretty much go to Toronto Motorsports Park open lapping. If you check their site out you can see what the schedule is like.
The car does not seem to turn in well at all???? I would fix that before anything else?
The better it turns in the later you can brake and the faster the car settles into the corner no???
Have you played with tire pressure?
What is with the brakes???
Smokin07ram Pad knock back was the cause for the brake feel Dave mentioned. The car actually turns in pretty well for a full weight car, it's no S2000 though.
Touge Tuning Yeah I guess they are on pretty narrow tires (for the weight) as well
have you guys ever thought about doing a mid engined build? like an MR2?
Dave, why do you twist your belt like that? I've heard that decreasing it's surface area can break your pelvis or collar bone much easier in an accident.
rear bake bias seems stupid ,can it even trail brake like that?
What are your thoughts on shuffle steering? I saw some hand crossover.
Does the Canadian version of the WRX not come with an LSD Standard?
Quali Tyres!
Is that the bad ass s2000 I spy at 13:10 ?
Way too many adds to make that HP. Can do a couple of mods J-Pipe and Intercooler and get well past 300 WHP with a MOD tune. Spent way too much time and money to make that power.
its not about making that much power its about making your engine last. That's why you dumbasses blow your engines all the time
great theres no column wood
What? No flux capacitor?! Impossible!
Speed Academy are you going to make a drift tuned car?
We have something in mind, will show it soon :)
What wheels are those? Love them!
cold bust they are Team Dynamics ProRace 1.2
The racing lines are kinda messy
So everyone knows I'm not fighting against or complaining again of their Subaru drivers we have an enemy in a competition the Ford focus XT Subaru needs to pick up the pace
Dude after I modify on my 2011 I was making 310 power. I still have not put in my down pipe and wrapped exhaust system. I would leave your the fucking dust
Sometimes slower is faster.
Is that the badass s2000 at 13:14?
Nope. Wish it was! Episode on it coming soon though.
wrx has a turbo FA20??
BornMini yep same engine is in the brz and frs minus the turbo
Not the same engine its slightly different only enough to where the wrx cant use brz motor parts
the main differences are lower compression and different intake plenum
Did I hear a cobb tune? as in an ots tune from cobb? If so, why? Why leave so much on the table
No, just the cobb accessport, tuned by touge
custom tune by OnPoint Dyno using the Cobb AP.
jcoopdo No the car is custom tuned by OnPoint Dyno using the COBB software.
How is it only making 274whp on a dyno when it's stage 2+? doesnt make sense.
Brandon Kent That is a pretty low number. My 15 wrx put down 322 WHP and 337 WTQ with full bolt ons.
On point Dino where this was tuned has a dyno that's notorious for reading low
Probably a very safe tune as it’s built for track work instead on street parading.
How do you put a WRX in track mode?
Press once it goes into a "Trac-Mode" which is like sport mode, and Hold the button until it shuts off all nannies and traction but keeps VDC(brake steer) I believe.
What size rear sway bar was he running?
22mm
"450lb of dude" lol
White car interviewed then it's blue look at the door trims inside wtf
Its a wrap!
Dude literally just needs coilovers
I think you mean 300WHP not 400
Correct! We fixed the typo.
There’s no way that cars hitting anywhere close to 400
is there some reason why a nice set of coilovers isn't in the plans?
Chris has prioritized ride comfort since this is his daily driver, but with the slippery slope that comes with building a competitive track car, we wouldn't be too surprised if he caves to the lap timer and throws some coilovers on there eventually. Right Chris? :D
Bob Last we're tackling things based on weak points identified on track. Rather then just "throwing the book at it", we're taking a step by step approach.
Touge Tuning
so it needs an sti trans more than coilovers? also, why not just start with an STi in the first place? well I guess there's the 3 decade old EJ...
Bob Last the open diffs on the WRX are really holding the car back and I don't really want to lower the car. The reason for starting with the WRX was us wanting to work with the new FA20DIT motor.
Touge Tuning you can get coilovers that don't lower the car... also I should mention, I'd not saying you're wrong or anything, just curious about your direction with the car
That car would be so much faster around that track if you took the proper line. Too many sharp turns and loss of traction.
Aem is the worst intake
Tip
bazanga
Lol this is fast ? My pro tuned wrx makes 400whp on e85 😂
Chris Orozco where are your track videos? Or is it a dyno queen?
Dude testing your car is by no means a good driver .
why not buy a sti ?
This is a better daily
Fa20 preference
Clean. Your. Car...
