I think that most of the radio stations that I listen to have that as well, once, the studio equipment at Radio 538 failed, so they had to rely on an iPhone with Spotify.
Wow, I didn't hear this. That must be what I heard Fearne and Reggie talking about, I was driving home from work and they said they were at radio 2 because of problems at radio 1.
Old post, but there is no such thing as a "(BBC) Emergency Broadcast" System. The videos on here? All fake. Every single "leaked BBC alert system!" video is fake. We don't have such system like America's EBS/EAS/EAN implemented at all, whether nationally or just in the BBC. If there's breaking news, you'll hear it in the news. There's a chance they'll interrupt programming for serious stuff, like they did for Diana or the Queen Mother, but mostly, it will just be injected into the news. (RUclips source for this: v=gFoEC2O9R4U) The Four Minute Warning (The British answer to CONELRAD) was deactivated a long time ago. There was a trial for mobile phone (Both location-based SMS and Cell Broadcasting System type) alerts in North Yorkshire, Glasgow, and Suffolk back in 2013, but as far as we know, the system hasn't been implemented wide-scale besides the Floodline's SMS system, which actually only relies on the address your phone is registered for, not your then-current location. (This info can be found on the gov.uk site)
Who activate the Beeb Emergency Tape System,i know this system has activate in cause of a serious stuff or Breaking News like the Diana death..so strange
the “emergency tape” isnt for important broadcasts - its a precompiled list of the channel’s normal content (for radio 1, mostly pop music). it automatically kicks in if dead air is transmit for more than 15 seconds.
Basically, the power went off, so all of the electrical equipment that is used to process and output the audio could not be used. After a certain time, something called the emergency tape kicked in. This happens automatically if a certain time of silence is detected. The reason that this audio could be heard, but not any of the microphones, or audio equipment in the studio is because the devices that plays the emergency audio probably has lots of redundancy, and runs off battery power.
Sounds like the tape was assembled in late 2006 or early 2007.
Their previous one featured Hey Ya by Outkast, circa 2004. I'd love to hear that on the radio in any circumstance...
I’m here after nearly 12 years... good to be here lmao
Oh my the memories those songs bring back 😭
Nice, the best songs and jingles of 2006! :D
This radio clip sounds like my childhood!
Good to see you back Vernon
This is what most radio stations have when there is too long of a silence.
Connor Yes, RTE 2FM had one kick in when Gerry Ryan died in 2010.

I suspect the fire alarm went off whilst the music from
Duffy was still singing
I’m more concerned by whatever’s going on with Vernon’s hair
This must have happened when BBC 2 emergency broadcast accidentally activated.
Is there footage of that?
