I love this woman. How refreshing to hear someone going a 'stand-up' routine without profanity every second word! Her poems are equally good and very funny. Most other comedians' routine would be half as long if they omitted the vulgarity. Well done Mrs. Ayres! Please keep your stories coming.
I agree, don’t get me wrong I like comedy with swearing with exception to that frankie Boyle and jimmy Carr but this is so clever she’s a brilliant story teller
What I love us that without stating the obvious about her dad’s swimming costume or using any direct words, she manages to paint the picture very clearly and leaves things up to the imagination of the audience. Now THAT is true comedy!
Havent seen this lady in years but boy,did she make me laugh this morning. She has a wonderful talent for putting pictures in your mind. She tells tales ,a bit like Billy Conolly without the added language.Marvelous.👏👏👏👏👏👏💐💐
Sounds like quite a few families were the butt of The Women's Weekly's sense of humour. I saw her perform in Hobart, Tasmania when she toured there. I was amazed at her ability to remember her stories as well as poems for over an hour. I hadn't realised she was such a gifted raconteur. This was maybe about 2009. I never heard about this swim suit though.
OMG Laugh, I nearly cried. I feel for Pam's dad as my mum knitted my swimming trunks from maroon wool. No doubt from the Woman's Weekly. I hated school swimming lessons.
Please tell me on 3 January 2019 that this gift of God, Ms. Pam Ayers is still with us! Anyone who listens to her will be cured of all that ails! What a wit!
Brilliant. My Auntie once wore a knitted swimming costume, when she came out of the water not much was covered due to the weight of the water on the wool. 🤣
My mum knitted me one of those when I was a toddler; it's a miracle I didn't drown in the shallows at Blackpool. It ended up on my teddy bear, named Big Ted who never, ever went swimming.
Punit Neb D. You can still get them. What a great present (if only a joke). I might have a bash myself as my husband was born in the 50’s and probably remembers them.
I fear that 'woollen' swim trunks may constitute a just impediment, to swimming and possibly common decency but what you chose to do in the privacy of your home is up to you and if completed I hope they give you both joy.
OMG being born in the early ‘50s I totally remember the swim wear ,I myself had a bobbly elastic swimsuit that filled with water and nearly drowned me 😆😂😂😂😂😂😤
As a small child in the 50's I remember having a pair of knitted swimming trunks in a maroon colour. As she says, they were fine when dry but almost hung down around the knees when wet.
Born in '47, I had a green one. What a nightmare. Brighton beach was bad enough with trying to walk on those pebbles and then to suffer the indignity and pain in the feet of having to stagger back up with me crutch round me knees and the extra weight of half the English Channel hanging off me skinny little shoulders. They were the days. :-)
Fiona Me Pam Ayres’ Bunny Rabbit Poem I am a bunny rabbit, Sitting in me hutch. I like to sit down this end. I don’t care for that end, much. I hope tomorrow’s Thursday, ‘Cause with a little luck, As far as I remember, That’s the day they pass the buck!
Oh yes....my mum knitted me one in the 50s....I nearly drowned near Southend pier....must of weighed 20 stone when wet! I actually came out naked..good job I was only 5😑
I remember my nana knitting me a swimsuit in the 60s and it sagging to my knees when I came out of the sea,my mum had to do the very same wringing action,oh yes they were the days
A lot of drownings were attributed to whool. Not the easiest link but there it is: death by swimming costume lovingly knitted by a spouse remembering how he complained about a stone in the lentils once too often.
Ha ha, I was born in the 70,s but I pictured those knitted trunks, even the colour before she described them. My Mum had tales of her own knitted costume and how it sagged. Why did they do this🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is so funny as I remember as a toddler my father’s maroon knitted trunks 😂 also my very itchy knitted swimsuit which really was bad when wet - so true
Memories of living in Blackpool during the war, We’d take a short cut through the Pleasure Beach .no. Bathing huts around so we’d just pop a dress over. Our still damp swimming costumes'
Sadly (if somewhat inevitably) Woman's Weakly has seemingly distanced itself from its seminal knitting ethos and gone after the smart set. Madonna's belated foray into the now arcane world of wool and needles came to nothing and now seems a distant, unheeded flash in the bedpan of history.
Knitted swimwear should be banned! I had not one, but two, knitted bikinis when I was younger. Back then I used to tie the tops with a granny knot to be on the safe side, but once they were wet the knots would fuse and you couldn’t get them off! 😂

Absolutely .just discovered her. Where was she all my life?
What I love us that without stating the obvious about her dad’s swimming costume or using any direct words, she manages to paint the picture very clearly and leaves things up to the imagination of the audience. Now THAT is true comedy!
Try DRY BAR comedy channel here on RUclips. No filth allowed and ultimately proving its filler for lack of ideas anyway
Oh no, she's just talking about her dad's bulge. No profanity here lol
Pam Ayres is a genuine gem. Bless her, all those laughs and no foul language. Good on you Pam.
Pam Ayres should be a Dame. She is so funny and she remains totally relateable because she talks our language.
I agree
Havent seen this lady in years but boy,did she make me laugh this morning. She has a wonderful talent for putting pictures in your mind.
She tells tales ,a bit like Billy Conolly without the added language.Marvelous.👏👏👏👏👏👏💐💐
4:47 I love the two ladies incapacitated in tears of laughter. What a gift Pam has.
We love Pam because she speaks our language. Bless her. She should be on TV more.
She once said that TV used up material too quick but that she can write a live show and tour it for a couple of years.
Pam Ayers is one of the funniest female comedians of all time.
This brings back memories. My mother knitted me a swimming costume when I was about 6/7. Had exactly the same problems. She is a true lovely lady.
Her delivery of her stories... and of her poems is so delightful.
I love this woman.she is brilliant.more please.
Nine years old, Gyllingvase Beach , Falmouth.......went into sea wearing trunks of wool.....came out wearing sod all.....Good ole Mum!!!!
OMG Laugh, I nearly cried. I feel for Pam's dad as my mum knitted my swimming trunks from maroon wool. No doubt from the Woman's Weekly. I hated school swimming lessons.
She is just adorable and one of the funniest ladies ever. Bless her.
I agree. She's great. Saw her live, hilarious.
Not many women like this anymore
One of the funniest and best story tellers ever!
I've had the pleasure of seeing her live, she is indeed.
And, m'gosh, she's a bit of a looker too...! Of course, I'm being age appropriate, I'm in my late 70s...!
I am in bed while telling a story about her DAD and his KNITTED swiming costume , I have TEARS run ing down my face with LAUGHTER I am 61 and disabled
Please tell me on 3 January 2019 that this gift of God, Ms. Pam Ayers is still with us! Anyone who listens to her will be cured of all that ails! What a wit!
Yes, she's still with us. 72 years old so she's got a chance of being with us for a while yet hopefully.
I went to see Pam give her monologues at a sold out performance at a local theatre in 2018. She was still as funny as before.
Pam is an amazing talent and has an amazing way with words
She is amazing. Good clean fun. Should be more comedians like her
The older ladies in the audience know exactly what she is talking about. You can see it in the way they laugh.
This is the funniest thing I have heard for a long time. We'll done Pam.
Brilliant 😃 Cheeky pauses and the smile....a whole hilarious package
She's so funny brings back memories from years ago so funny
I remember the first poem I heard her say called:- curlers. I hope I can find it here! She is hilarious!
Oh, I have it now! Thanks to David S. 🙏🏻
The 1950s knitted swimsuits are strong in the memory of anybody that endured one. Did Pam exaggerate? Not in the least.
I wore one of these and when wet it dragged along the beach.
kate greenway
You're too funny 'dragged along the beach' my arse or rather your arse.
when I joined the Army in the mid 60s woolen swim trunks were issued to soldiers. and Pam describes them perfectly lol.
@@kategreenway1185 Damn Kate I nearly pissed myself laughing so hard. Well done on the image. So funny.
I said “knitted” before she did. I remember my Dad’s maroon coloured ones with a cream braided waistband. 😅
So good as usual Pam thanks. Moxx
Love this. ❤ Thanks for the upload. 😂
The brilliant Pam Ayres....❤
Absolutely hilarious.. My husband is a swimmer and I dabble with knitting... How I wish I could lay my hands on that knitting pattern;)
Punit Neb D. You can still get them. What a great present (if only a joke). I might have a bash myself as my husband was born in the 50’s and probably remembers them.
Punit Neb D. Please let me know if you ever succeed. 😁
I fear that 'woollen' swim trunks may constitute a just impediment, to swimming and possibly common decency but what you chose to do in the privacy of your home is up to you and if completed I hope they give you both joy.
OMG being born in the early ‘50s I totally remember the swim wear ,I myself had a bobbly elastic swimsuit that filled with water and nearly drowned me 😆😂😂😂😂😂😤
Maggie Elner I made myself a swimsuit out of terrycloth! Only wore it once; needless to say🤭
As a small child in the 50's I remember having a pair of knitted swimming trunks in a maroon colour. As she says, they were fine when dry but almost hung down around the knees when wet.

Fabulously funny woman...and not a 4 letter word to be heard.
I so remember those knitted swimming trunks, my own fathers was Maroon😅
Remember those costumes, my grandmother knitted them. Only slightly improved on when my dad gave me his ex Royal Navy one.
What a delightful comedienne. No obscenity, down to earth and riotously funny .
I love how they cut to the crowd and it looks like lunch time entertainment at the retirement home. Bless em
A complete original never to be copied.
Wonderful! Just wonderful!
My way
Lovely. Thank you.
😅 I remember my Dads woolen trunks. Same problem. Even worse when they got the moth over winter and only discovered the first time he went for a swim.
I made the mistake of watching this over breakfast. I nearly choked to death!
This is fantastic!! 😂✨

Not to mention the sand which stuck to the thighs and crutch when as youngsters we made our way home as children . Red raw our thighs were

EBSJones4 Sorry I’ve got to go one better don’t mean to offend but she’s fxxxxxg brilliant
So funny without being crude. Why can't today's standups manage it?
Because it requires a degree of intelligence and talent.
Checkout Drybar comedy
So funny her timing is brilliant
What a treat to hear real humour, funny and clen 😂😊
I am now again crying with laughter.
Met her years ago. My favourite was: My mother had a flit gun, it was not devoted of charm. A bit of a flit shot out of it, the rest shot up her arm.
Fiona Me
Pam Ayres’ Bunny Rabbit Poem
I am a bunny rabbit,
Sitting in me hutch.
I like to sit down this end.
I don’t care for that end, much.
I hope tomorrow’s Thursday,

Poor dad! :D MWAAAAAAH!
Ha ha, I was born in the 70,s but I pictured those knitted trunks, even the colour before she described them. My Mum had tales of her own knitted costume and how it sagged. Why did they do this🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
They didn't have nylon or spandex........
At 16 I had a ghastly purple knitted swimming costume. It was horribly embarrassing. I'm 88 and still remember the humiliation.
My mother used to knit my swimming trunks and the above is painful.
What a riot!!!!
She is so funny.
That was wonderful 😂😂😂😂😂😂
my dad had a knitted swim trunks too!
This is so funny as I remember as a toddler my father’s maroon knitted trunks 😂 also my very itchy knitted swimsuit which really was bad when wet - so true
