I just finished building the handrail on my deck ruclips.net/user/postUgkxfQ5_mgwq6PcudJvAH25t-I4D-3cTPz4z and used this great little router to clean up the top rail before the final sanding and stain. It was light weight but packed lots of power. Either size battery didn't seem to make it top heavy and I'm a 64 yr old women so I really appreciated how easy it was to use...................... CORDLESS only way to go !!
Thanks for a great, concise video. Short and to the point unlike so many others. Plus the armpit hair and chicken nugget comments add a little humor. 😂.
In the video you say to use an 18mm router bit, can you point me to the Freud bit? I'm trying to figure out what bit to make a 3/8 in dado (birch plywood is 3/4" baltic)
If you have a slightly smaller bit, it's still ok to cut this way, just have to do it in two passes. BTW, I have exact same palm router ... Makita did a great job.
Looked for that clamp unit as you call it but cant find one maybe its the name lol , I even looked on tools dusty uses on Amazon but still no clamp unit , could you share the real name or maybe a link for it ? the clamp is just as important if not more than the router bit buddy ..
I have a question about routing plywood for a T-Track, the plywood has knots in it which I cannot avoid in my design. Without having to pay for premium plywood (that is pretty much Knotless) but twice the expense $$ how do you suggest getting a clean cut through knots in the wood or am I dreaming and it can't be done?
Brother Man! Glad I saw what I was about to step in... almost stepped in your rabbet poo while I was looking for tips on dado doodoo to step in and get all over my boots!
Where can I get that adjustable clamp / ripping fence (is that what it's called?) I'm looking to get one of those so I can use my hand router to make similar ddo cuts and tracks. Any help will be appreciated!
This is great thanks. If I wanted to do a load of grooves in some boards for a shiplap effect do I run the router left to right across the board or right to left? Thanks
What happens when your 18mm plywood is 17.5 mm wide (it happens). Now you're a half armpit hair off. 🤣Give me an adjustable dado jig that allows routing to the exact size of the wood any day. How do you like your Makita palm router?
It’s rabbet not rabbit and they are cuts on the edges. When it’s in the middle of a board it’s called a dado or groove. However some people call them rabbets (not rabbit) or rebates and who really cares 🤷♂️ as long as the message is communicated it’s a pretty silly thing to argue about
I didn't understand the measuring system of 'edge to bit' + 'full diameter of the bit' until I realized this is a rabbet video and not a dado video.
yeah should have finished the video saying "except this is not a dado" (:

Just started building this week and bought this router per your video. Thank you for making things easy, real cool watching your big shop videos.
"Wont have the chicken nuggets" is going to be apart of my daily vocab now
Arm pit hair & the chicken nuggets to get through it! You’re on a roll tonight
😂 hahaha
Ok, this is exactly what was looking for. A simple method that works fine, without exotic jigs that I would use once or twice in my life.
Thanks for this so much!
I was asked to make a shadow box for my little now I know how to get those grooves for the glass.
😁😁👍
Thank you from Australia for being metric.
Randall Lasini 😀😀👍👍
Thanks! Watching this gave me confidence that I could cut several Rabbets with my Palm Router.

nice vid thanks!

jeeeezzz PPE ,Safety Glasses optional I guess

I'd been wondering if a palm router could do a dado in 21mm ply sp this answer my question - thanks!
👍👍

What kind of straight edge is that???
I think it’s by RDX
Brother Man! Glad I saw what I was about to step in... almost stepped in your rabbet poo while I was looking for tips on dado doodoo to step in and get all over my boots!
Hahaha 😂
Do you ever run into your router bit accumulating burn marks and becoming dull quickly with this? If not what router bit do you suggest for dado cuts?
Definitely gotta keep sharp bits and move at the right speed but I still get a burn spot here and there. I use Freud straight bit for dados
@@dustylumberco thank you so much bud
Cut up short of the line by a millimetre, them trim the last wee bit. Works for me
What are these "millimeters" he keeps referring to?
Where can I get that adjustable clamp / ripping fence (is that what it's called?) I'm looking to get one of those so I can use my hand router to make similar ddo cuts and tracks. Any help will be appreciated!
it's a routing jig
straight edge clamp or clamp edge. Home depot or wherever has them.
Wheres your PPE!
No kidding cmon man there are kids watching. Not to mention your safety. Looks like a great channel.
This is great thanks. If I wanted to do a load of grooves in some boards for a shiplap effect do I run the router left to right across the board or right to left? Thanks
Always left to right.
Great video! But you cut a rabbet, not a dado.
A little confusing with the measurements all because it is for rabbet cut and not dado cut. But thanks anyway.
what's this millimeter stuff you keep talking about?
You lost me at millimeters!

Chicken nuggets . Bruh lol . Tell me that’s on a r shirt for sale. Ty for video too
What is that clamp you used called?
straight edge clamp or clamp edge.
Woody harls
No safety glasses. No hearing protection.
Can't you rename the video? I watched to the end only to see you cut a rabbet.
Can I cut a dados in one pass? And if so how deep can I go on one pass?
It will depend on the router, the bit and the wood. Hard to know in each and every situation
Woody harelson
that wasnt a dado demonstration. I'll keep looking.
That’s a rabbit or rebate. Not a dado

Dude raw doggin' that plywood with zero eye protection! Yikes..
What is with these expressions?
An armpit hair is a unit of measurement?
Is that called the Too-Much-Info system?
why do you keep saying armpit hair
Slightly wider than a head hair! Lol
This is a robbet but still. Very useful video so thanks.
How big a difference between an "armpit hair" and a "cunt hair?" I'm used to measurements in "cunt hairs" myself.
I smell it
Rabbit dude
a rabbet or rebate on the edge of a board, a groove or dado is inside the workpiece somewhere
