- Robots have integrated in our lives in different ways and have taken over some tasks which were exclusively done by humans.
But, robots have not yet been able to have a sense of touch - could this be about to change?

Why, why was I programmed to feel pain!?
The Simpsons 😂😂😂
Pain is the price we pay for being alive. Our Hair, nails and dead cells don't feel pain. To feel pain, be alive.
Pain is a warning sign of danger
The sensation of pain is a vital survival feature for humans and animals. Just imagine you are cutting a piece of wood with an electric bench saw and you carelessly start cutting into your hand but you feel no pain. You are cooking and being momentarily distracted, your hand enters the flame or your shirt catches fire, but you feel no pain.
Now, do you get the idea ?
@@raymondtendau2749 tell that to the people who were once tortured lol
Could this also be applied to human prosthetic limbs?
most definitely, i think the only major 3 problems is the weight of the controllers and power that connect to the circuit skin and haptic feedback motors.
The sensors would not be hard to integrate but the controllers that feed back the touch data , that they pickup would be something that needs a lot of refinement. potentially running wires to a pocket battery/controller device that has battery and controllers . It would be cumbersome but one potential implementation of solution.
The 3rd problem would be the size ,weight and durability of the haptic feedback motors , tho if our phones and console game controllers can have tiny motors that last long under the constant bashing they get, then im sure good ones could be developed that sit between a prosthetic and the artificial limb
What about an artificial vagina, for transplant purposes?
Elon joined the chat
I don't think it would work because to feel what the limb feels it needs to be connected to your brain...
No.@@UnusualOscar
OH God... I just finished watching the Westworld series.
“Freeze all motor functions” better work on these bots
Doesn't look like anything to me.
Just finished Season Three last night...but I totally get where you're coming from. Dolores time...
Oh that's lovely. So they can feel our neck when they're strangling it
😂 oh dear
@Republic_Nowah, well. if the robots are cute i won’t mind
I'm so happy for the robots. Overjoyed. Some day they will develop robots that are able to give birth and raise their young. Wouldn't that be precious??
🤨
They just showed some flexible PCB and an out dated robot that barely used touch... Feels like another empty promise of a new technology that doesn't yet have any real use.
Another good addition for real dolls
When they make a speakable robot, they don't give it a body. When they make a running robot, they don't let it speak. It's obviously what they are hiding in the last step.😮😮😮
😂
Awesome, VR haptic suits from "Ready Player One"...
Put this with the small company making powered exosuits for NASA space walk missions.
I don't even know exactly why but this seems like a really bad idea
It's not a bad idea. It's a necessity.
Ah yes, a sign of intelligence is definitely fearing what you dont understand
@@verzeda fair point. Still it makes me uneasy. Maybe that says something about me, maybe it doesn't.
@@joshuacyrus People are afraid of new things they don't fully understand (unfortunately that not only applies to things but to people as well, thats where xenophobia originates). Don't worry thats a totally normal human reaction, so it doesn't say anything about you except you being human. Just try to be more open minded and do some research, it will be worth it.
Robot, ‘Give me some skin man’ 🤣🤣🤣🇬🇧♥️
HAHA 2:46 that old Titan controller shows up... .its all going to go terribly wrong.
robot goes from handshake to crushing your hand into jello because of a faulty sensor. 😂 😂
What's with 'dis lady reporter's pronunciation, BBC? She miss pronounces all of her TH sounds.
One step closer to terminator
Terminator grew actual human flesh to place over the mechanical skeleton though.
@@joermnyc give them 10 years
@@JakeAshcroft2003 no...considering the liquid metal on T1000 i would bet more 50 years until we or AI make this technology
@@JakeAshcroft2003with ai solving protein problem it could happen even sooner
I can actually see this used inside a holodeck type situation
Computer vision could scan surface and interpret the texture.
Super cool
This is fantastic. Every human has their own varied ability to feel and this will help us understand that better.
I am experiencing numbness energylessness bloodlessness.
Thanks BBC News From Egypt
I mean, I use Hall effect sensors embedded in silicone. Very effective. The thinner stuff is welcomed for sure tho
Skin also helps protect from dust ingress.
Of course
When I was little I dreamed with robots and never though to see it in real life! But now I don’t know if I want to see for real
RIP rehab team
we should probably not do that
Actually it's imperative we do it...
@@sparkofcuriousity I wouldn't say imperative but it makes sense to tackle the next step towards artifical robotics and limb prosthetics.
@@coondog7934 Yeah i might have used a too strong of a word, but still, it's important and necessary.
Please hurry up with these technological advancements, I need a gf.
You'll probably be old to get a gf by the time they are ready to deploy a fully functioning robot gfs. Better to find one overseas
Then travel and find one
@@Ghostrider-ul7xn We'll be old and young. There is much research and advancements made in Youth and Regenerative science. As AI becomes more powerful and sophisticated eventually breakthroughs will happen that will potentially extend our lifespan indenitaly.
So, he might actually get his wish.
Honestly, i'm rooting he does get his wish.
Can I just give a RIP for Doctor Woke. Lowest ever ratings for a Who. Congratulations BBC. 👍
FINALLY!
A step closer to making the royals real and human.
Interesting, but why the disturbing background music?
that white robot looks like that ET from mexico parliament
Add this to gpt 4o
I previously saw the Adam coffee robot at an exhibition.
Apply this tech to prosthetics. Real bionics
We are in the future this is crazy
This is the beginning. We're living at the most impactful Era of Human existence and able to witness History unfold!

@@huckleberryfinn6578 And they were right. But AI is on a whole different level and will allows us to unlock so much that was previously thought impossible.
@@sparkofcuriousityI am happy for you that you think it’s all so great and has no down side. I am sad that people have been losing jobs to machines and technology is outperforming us with ever lightening speed. Even Elon Musk says we need to slow down.

And what's the deal with that Stockholm Syndrome?
I am ready to get in the goddamn robot! (with Asuka)
I haven't felt in years. I know a few Royal Marines who haven't felt anything in a while.
Imagine if a robot married a human. I mean. we could have the first birth of the first half robot and half human being.
And how does that work 🙈
Like cyborgs?

More than robots, I'm curious to see how this could translate into better prosthetic limbs.
*Stasis Blackcell should be the default design for all neurosensory androids*
So here comes cybernetics. The next cosmetics craze. 🤐🇺🇲🇹🇹
Maybe mankind could give humans souls, ethics, compassion, honor, humility, and other traits like that instead. Personally, I think it'd be a MUCH better usage of their most precious resource.

Thing is NVidia & Hippocratic AI is on the road to answering the nursing shortage.
Who cleans the robot after? waste of money
electronic skin could make hackers life easy so bbc can broadcast touch of news from anywhere and anytime
because nothing says "don't worry, you'll be fine" like complete isolation and not even seeing another human's face LOL. The Hell Are You Thinking? please tell me this is not the final design? the tech involved may be amazing but I'm a programmer and even i know enough phycology to know this is a bad idea. bring at least one head-shrinker on to the team to keep patients mental heath good as well as physical.
Wait until they get emotion .
We won't have to wait for long. GPT-4 "Omni" features a direct audio-to-audio modality that can express and comprehend the nuances of emotion on a human level. If not for OpenAI's restrictions on flirting and NSFW acts, an absurd number of people would genuinely fall in love with instances of ChatGPT.
Data memory die hard. Robotic emotions would be overloading the local mobile phone tower?
Have we figured out what the human nurses will do?
It look like robot in Doctor Who

Can you fix the palms to robots lite Tesla bot by this summer? Thank you

Can we at least have the 1st robot built like Arnold Schwarzenegger?
Just don't programme the robots like Westworld tried with Delos. Bad enough you want robots as mad as us Scots but giving them the sense of touch...I wonder if anyone called Arnold or Bernard will step up to the plate in this research?.
oh yeah, and soon will be combined with AI
*Essentially the Gift of the Brain THINKING AHEAD, but... Absolutely Robotic: the OPPOSITE!
That's scary for humans 😢
lol...
Nah it's just scary for you and others like you who live in fear of what they can't understand.

Is this necessary? In these days of turmoil, cost of living, and climate change, the last thing we should be putting time and money into is "skin" for robots. 🙄
Don’t dress that robot up as Jimmy Savile, the last thing we need is that thing exploring its sense of touch on a hospital ward.
Just the beginning, am expecting more creativity
Oooooh she is going have realistic moans😂😂😂😂😂
I knew some people would think of this
If they can give a robot a sense of feeling maybe they should fit this to the Prime minister and maybe he will stop arming a genocidal state.
Nice

We're not gonna stop, are we?
You can't stop progress.
Why would you want to stop it anyway?
What you can do is just *not* adopt new technologies and live like Amish people if you really want it. Although, again i can't understand why anyone would want to live like that.

@@condatis6175 If you know anything about humanity you know that boredom is incredibly dangerous. Joe Bloggs isn't suddenly going to become Rembrandt.
@@OUTBOUND184 Hmm. Housewives do ok. Students don't have actual jobs and they thrive. Perhaps the education system can teach people something about how to cope well with leisure? No, youre right, Joe Bloggs wont be Rembrant or the like, but that's a very narrow definition of creativity. Teaching a kid how to play football, for eg, can be considered a creative thing, I'd say.
@@OUTBOUND184 Craft religion sport art, in the sense of singing, dancing, etc, These are other outlets that can maintain health. But work? Labour was traditionally despised by the upper classes for good reason, and come to think pre-industrial farming people despised the 9-5 system when it was first introduced. they traditionally only worked intensively during certain seasons, and new industrial style work in the cities ws looked on as little better than slavery. Ive also heard it said hunter-gatherers worked far less than the first farmers. Nah i think we can and will adapt very to a world without labour, we simply need meaning - something the present day unemployed lack.
@@condatis6175 What we need (but will never have) is an agrarian society again. Fruitful work. Purposeful work. Healthy work. Community spirit. It's all there. Automated luxury communism and the like would just result in fully-fledged nihilism and conflict, as much as I would like to imagine otherwise. Maybe your vision would work if we had a healthy culture that oriented people towards eternal things, but, alas....
