Recently disabled mechanical engineer here. I don’t think most able bodied people realize how much of a game changer a robot helper could be to the disabled and elderly. The only reason the Chinese are interested in the application is because they have more elderly people than young people can handle. I never thought about this application either until an autoimmune disorder paralyzed me. Unfortunately untrained family members are ill equipped to take care of a disabled relative alone with limited help from a social safety net. A robot that could assist in moving and/or other tasks specified by the patient and/or caretaker would be huge!
Yes, this guy has no idea whatsoever about the need for robots in care facilities and homes. How many special needs children or adults have been abused by humans? Just happened on my son's bus last summer. Nonverbal special needs people getting abused. I NEED a full-time robot to care for my adult nonverbal child!!! Can't wait for it, very exciting.
My mom was working in elderly care and what is underestimated is how much body strength and technique is needed for this job. If you need to help someone out of the bed or turn them over it can be quite a challenge if said person is not skinny.

Regarding the GR-1....Elder Care can become prohibitively expensive. Assisted Facilities are incredibly expensive and Medicare and Medicaid are not as easy to attain as one might expect. Plus they deplete family assets . The idea of a robot that can keep a family member at home, safe and cared for. Human home care is $15+ an hr. Which is not affordable for most. So although I understand the desire to prefer human interaction over robots. Allot of care is more impersonal that one might expect?

I was a construction foreman for many years , I converse with gpt 4.0 , tell it I look forward to having a modular droid with a direct gpt phone interface , on asking me how I may allocate it work after some thought I would start it digging a human sized tunnel like a miner , as it encounters boulders and different changes in the tunnel it would be interesting to see it ask for materials to prop ceiling etc
Awesome summary, please keep it up. Would also be interested to get something at the end of a kids like this that might give summary of what are the estimated most expensive and least expensive robots coming, a few companies have released what they think their bots might cost at mass production stage. This will give us an idea of competitive pricing and we may be getting in 5 years or so. I'm definitely starting to save for a bot , will be more useful then a car to me.

Humanoid Robots prior to the rise of AI were basically useless toys. Interesting in concept but not commercially viable due to lack of autotomy. With AI, humanoid robots are now so astonishingly practical everyone is making them as you've already noticed. The interesting thing is that now that there is a point in doing it, robotics tech is also advancing in leaps and bounds.
Everything is coming together at the right time. AI to run them being number one. Batteries being small enough at an affordable price being the number two reason. Everyone wants a piece of the pie. One company cannot possibly provide the amount of units that there will be a demand for once it is perfected.
I understand the appeal of UBI, but I think it's essential to consider the potential drawbacks. Simply injecting more currency into the economy without addressing the underlying issues can lead to inflation, debasement of currency, and a loss of purchasing power. The Cantillon Effect also means that those closest to the source of new currency will benefit most, while others will be left with reduced purchasing power. Furthermore, UBI would likely become the new baseline, with prices adjusting to absorb the increased currency, effectively rendering the UBI worthless. Instead of UBI, perhaps we should explore alternative solutions, such as a Sovereign Wealth Fund composed of assets with inherent value, which could provide essential goods and services directly to the population, eliminating the need for monetary intermediaries. Let's think critically about the root causes of poverty and inequality, rather than just treating the symptoms with a potentially flawed solution.

Great video. From what I can tell coming from a marketing background I’m reasonably sure that probably about 75% of the videos in companies are basically just using CGI. Basically anyone could do a robot company with a little CGI magic. Kind of sad. However, some do seem to have at least a semi-legitimate robot being developed so there is hope.
@@General4474 If there's never going to be robots then there's no reason to even show off robots doing anything because they can't just show off robots in 2024 and hype millions or billions of people up and not have robots in another 10 to 20 years. I really hope that we get real world functioning humanoid robots in the near future. My question is though, why can't these robot/tech companies mimic the human body. Is it really that hard? They are trying to re-invent something nature already perfected. The engineering of the human body, how flexible and soft it is, is just amazing. The movie terminato got it right with the human endoskeleton. Just copy the bone structure in our bodies, muscles, etc. I also mentioned it being soft. I think having a robot that is soft as a human is also very important. Being soft makes it much more versatile, able to do things, fit into places that a hard robot would not be able to do. Again, the movie terminator got it right. I think once they get the skeleton correct, wrap it around with a soft human like thing, or silicone or whatever.

We need both workers and companions. Your voice sounds young but I can tell you that as both a provider and a consumer of health care, and as an elderly person in a isolated rural area, we most definitely do NOT have adequate humans to fill these needs.

Elderly Care is prob the best place for most robots, theres very few people willing to do such a job and theres a small amount that dont dp it very well and another small amount that are outright neglectful.
It seems that every robot is good at doing one or two things, but not everything. The first one that can combine good agility, good walking speed, good carry strength, good hand dexterity, and good AI software and environment processing, will be the one to watch. Judging b y the success of results so far my bet is on Unitree being first but maybe Tesla will manage it

Why can't we get a humanoid that has the communication capacity of GPT, but has the fluidity that of Boston Dynamics, sleekness of Tesla, and can teach people at home Karate, Tai Chi or Kung Fu perhaps. Think of it: your very own in home instructor. Call it Bushido. Once the Bushido Bot senses you've excelled enough and corrected your mistakes, understand the philosophical and practical concepts, it then tests you as a instructor would to see if you can learn more advanced concepts. Once you've mastered enough, it can then help you schedule up coming tournament events and even be sponsored with Martial Art federations to make it all legit.
how long until 100% safe level 5 autonomous driving! and what level of autonomous driving are we at now? Has Tesla reached an advanced level 3? or are these shades of a level 4? (I mean the beginning)
Honestly a UBI will not come until normal people start protesting about it for obvious reasons and even then it could be 10 years in the making meaning most people will be on hard times before the dawn of UBI and even before that I suspect they'll try to go to a 4 shift work week 6 hours a day 5 days out of the week will be considered full time with anything over 32 hours being overtime. why because these robots have to be trained to do a job so what this means is something like this first Manufacturing jobs go up with driving jobs probably by 2035 then I think a 4 shift work week will come into play as robots get ready to replace people in Construction work and fast food witch will more than likely take another 10 years say about 2045 so say about 2050 most jobs will be gone as we know them today the only ones that will be left is management jobs and maintenance jobs and with the advances in longevity escape velocity there is a chance most of us will be as healthy as what we where in are 20s with death from old age becoming less and less common as time goes on if we are lucky if not we could just solve things like Alzheimer's and a few minor diseases but I think it will be way more than that by 2050s it should be full cellular restoration thanks to ASI mixed with Quantum Computing and a little bit of classical computing also if nothing else we will more than likely see a population boom from people having so much free time and not having to work around the clock to make ends meet. its a running Theory of how things could go but in the USA this change. we will be fighting tooth and nail even for the less work time to make more jobs for most people to make income it will be a fight to get it past in states or federal law the short of it is unless your in a state where work is dirt cheap most states will be having a hard time finding jobs for normal people to do some time in the next 11 years. there is a chance we could go with a UBI early and boost the economy to create jobs in the service sector things like fast food and malls and grocery stores but all that would really do is drive the cost of goods through the roof know one is going to make goods for the UBI no job community so really the only way in the short term is to go to a 4 shift work week.

Because our world has been built for humans and if we create a humanoid robot it will be able to do all the things that we can do and use all the tools that we can use
A small municipal golf course bought 4 robots to work as greens keepers. They worked out perfectly but the players complained that the sun was glinting off their metal bodies, shining in the players' eyes. One of the maintenance guys decided to spray paint the robots black to remedy the situation. The next day , one robot had "bidness downtown" another had to attend his auntie's funeral and the other two called in sick.
If my plan to build an AI-assisted smart home work out as expected by 2027, then I might live long enough to equip it with a fully ambulatory home-management robot to do all the cooking, house cleaning, laundry, yard work and security monitoring/protection before I get too old to do it myself.
Humanoid generalist robots instead of specialized robots for tasks is like skipping evolution and getting to the final product. It does insure a things made will remain at a human scale.

Great video. From what I can tell coming from a marketing background I’m reasonably sure that probably about 75% of the videos in companies are basically just using CGI. Basically anyone could do a robot company with a little CGI magic. Kind of sad. However, some do seem to have at least a semi-legitimate robot being developed so there is hope.

I really hope that we get real world functioning humanoid robots in the near future. My question is though, why can't these robot/tech companies mimic the human body. Is it really that hard? They are trying to re-invent something nature already perfected. The engineering of the human body, how flexible and soft it is, is just amazing. The movie terminato got it right with the human endoskeleton. Just copy the bone structure in our bodies, muscles, etc. I also mentioned it being soft. I think having a robot that is soft as a human is also very important. Being soft makes it much more versatile, able to do things, fit into places that a hard robot would not be able to do. Again, the movie terminator got it right. I think once they get the skeleton correct, wrap it around with a soft human like thing, or silicone or whatever.
I think it’s really that hard but it’s a worthwhile problem to solve

Honestly a UBI will not come until normal people start protesting about it for obvious reasons and even then it could be 10 years in the making meaning most people will be on hard times before the dawn of UBI and even before that I suspect they'll try to go to a 4 shift work week 6 hours a day 5 days out of the week will be considered full time with anything over 32 hours being overtime. why because these robots have to be trained to do a job so what this means is something like this first Manufacturing jobs go up with driving jobs probably by 2035 then I think a 4 shift work week will come into play as robots get ready to replace people in Construction work and fast food witch will more than likely take another 10 years say about 2045 so say about 2050 most jobs will be gone as we know them today the only ones that will be left is management jobs and maintenance jobs and with the advances in longevity escape velocity there is a chance most of us will be as healthy as what we where in are 20s with death from old age becoming less and less common as time goes on if we are lucky if not we could just solve things like Alzheimer's and a few minor diseases but I think it will be way more than that by 2050s it should be full cellular restoration thanks to ASI mixed with Quantum Computing and a little bit of classical computing also if nothing else we will more than likely see a population boom from people having so much free time and not having to work around the clock to make ends meet. its a running Theory of how things could go but in the USA this change. we will be fighting tooth and nail even for the less work time to make more jobs for most people to make income it will be a fight to get it past in states or federal law the short of it is unless your in a state where work is dirt cheap most states will be having a hard time finding jobs for normal people to do some time in the next 11 years. there is a chance we could go with a UBI early and boost the economy to create jobs in the service sector things like fast food and malls and grocery stores but all that would really do is drive the cost of goods through the roof know one is going to make goods for the UBI no job community so really the only way in the short term is to go to a 4 shift work week.

A small municipal golf course bought 4 robots to work as greens keepers. They worked out perfectly but the players complained that the sun was glinting off their metal bodies, shining in the players' eyes. One of the maintenance guys decided to spray paint the robots black to remedy the situation. The next day , one robot had "bidness downtown" another had to attend his auntie's funeral and the other two called in sick.
Still haven't seen a real life robotic, would like to see one that actually do some kind of work that be good.
