  • The Solo Summiteer - Scafell Solo Wild Camp - seeking solitude, the hard way - setting off from Wasdale I decided to take the interesting route up Scafell, via the gully scrambles of Lords Rake and The West Wall Traverse. Exciting ascents for a hill walker like myself and certainly not recommended for the inexperienced or ill equipped, due to the extremely steep, loose, rocky terrain, and the potential of rock fall from above.
I pitched my Alpkit Soloist tent at 3100ft, just below the summit of Scafell. My return route the following day included the descent to Foxes Tarn and down Foxes Tarn Gully, before the heading up the 600ft climb to Mickledore. From here I continued to the summit of Scafell Pike (Englands highest mountain) before returning to Wasdale via Hollow Stones and the Brown Tongue path. A 10 mile walk with 4000ft of ascent.
Many thanks for watching - Dave

Hi Dave, couldn’t tell if it was your watch strap or walking pole strap round you wrist in the shot of you coming down the steep rocky bit, but just a safety tip for anyone who does use poles if you are using poles on steep, rocky ground you should take your hands out of the straps. If you slip, trip or fall and reach out to grab a rock to stop yourself falling or put your hands out to break your fall the straps can prevent you if the poles catch on the rocks at the wrong angle. Even if you don’t end up cartwheeling down the hill the poles are more likely to bend or break. Just something to consider. Nice video.

wow with full backpack too..awesome 👍. Ive done some sketchy hikes in Switzerland once there was a rock on a ridge with a sheer drop both sides and just a iron bar sticking up to hold on to while we shuffled across a few meters💩 It wasnt even in the Alps!

What an epic adventure once again been 20 years since I ventured up Lords Rake and it still looks a slog but worth the effort on arrival. Really appreciated the overall content and must admit you have fast became my favourite video blogger. Keep up the great work for us all to enjoy 👍

Cheers for filming this. I was recently going to attempt the Lords Rake/WWT ascent from Scafell Pike for a Bob recce but due to not knowing the route and really bad clag I decided to do Foxes Tarn instead. I appreciate it's difficult to capture the steepness and technical nature of some of the climbs but it was pretty helpful for me seeing this. Looking forward to getting back out there to tackle Lords...

Great video mate. Some stunning scenery. I did Lords Rake about 3 years ago in horrendous weather. Was pretty scary but great fun. Not sure I’d want to attempt it with a heavy rucksack on my back so great effort by you.
    Keep up the great work.
    Take care

Next time I return to the UK (born there) I hope to do something like this. I'm a full time solo nomad in the US, I work at 9,475 ft in the summer, hike/peak bag at that and above, so although I would probably find it tough (I'm 60 and 5ft tall) at least my lungs should be able to do well. Thanks for the inspiration! Great filming, really enjoyed it.
