I will be 63 at the end of the month and my nephew has talked me into trying a guitar again. Ive been doing some research and have a few picked out to look at more seriously but i got a notion today and went to 2 pawn shops and bought 1 guitar from each. The first was a cheap plucking get used to strumming guitar , 60$. The second is actually very nice a Greg Bennett that sounds beautiful and csme with a nice cushioned soft case. Ive been looking over a few instructors on you tube and i find your teaching style to be my favorite. I have subscribed and look forward to learning a lot. Thank you for your desire to teach this incredible instrument. ✌
You helped me out so much. I got a guitar last year and looked up other videos for beginners but only showed the three finger method for every note and it ended up causing me a lot of pain. After numerous failed attempts at trying to learn, my guitar pretty much became a decoration for almost a year. Yesterday, I decided to give it another shot and that's when I came across this video. Your methods actually got me to play notes and now I can finally learn. What I love is that you actually repeat all the steps to keep it fresh. Thank you for making me feel confident enough to continue.
I’ve been so frustrated until I found your videos ! Not only are you the best teacher on RUclips but you also are the prettiest !!! Great voice also I love when you sing the chord you play it’s magical!!!
@@LaurenBateman Well deserved, haven’t been able to make a single chord after almost a month of RUclips videos and 2 different IPhone Apps, I literally can play and transition between 3 chords now after one of your videos ! Your in person students are very fortunate to have you !
The simplicity of Laurens teaching methods makes learning to play easy, a pleasure & is motivational. The more successful a student is with each lesson the more they will enjoy playing & practicing. Thus a student will become proficient quickly prompting him/her to continue. It's worth it to start lessons with Lauren.
Thank you for video, I’ve subscribed. Picked up a guitar for the first time and now have three chords I can play and they sound good. I stopped at the first three for session 1 I will come back tomorrow and learn the fourth chord. But the video was so well done and easy to follow. Thank you
I bought my first guitar last week. I have been on guitar tricks and RUclips over this past week. I learned more in your 17 minute video then I have all week. I am so thankful!!! Life saver!
I must say that you are my first "Go to" for lessons, Lauren. Thank you for putting these lessons up for us. You are a considerate and talented guitar teacher.
I’m right handed and severely injured my left pointer and middle finger, so I picked up the guitar for physical therapy to get movement back in them. I’m so glad I found ur content bc you make learning less overwhelming. Thank u thank u thank u 🙏🏻
Lauren I moved to this one after your “First Lesson I will ever need” after making notes for string and fret practice which I continue to do with every sit down session. I love REPEATED INSTRUCTIONS! Much better than scrolling back. Thank you so much for taking time in your videos instead of rushing like you’re on a time limit!
I am just about to get a guitar and learn from a teacher physically. Watching this is for me to get ready for it. So I am grateful to this tutor, I will always come to digest more. God bless you.
I think out of the three videos I've seen today from you Lauren, this one was the most helpful. Two things stand out to me. First, you showed an Easy D, which I was looking for to play. The second was how you mentioned the transition between Easy G and Easy D, which I didn't know before. The sequence of chords G Em C Em also is helpful so I can get used to playing. I have in my head now about how to get better playing Amazing Grace, which I hear is a great song to play at the beginner's level. I wrote down on paper the chords so that I can begin to memorize them. This video is really, really good, so thanks for the time and effort you put into it.
Hi Lauren, I'm an 84 year old guy who is determined to learn guitar, at least enough to strum a few chords to popular songs. Your teaching method and close ups make it the most effective teaching technique I have found on line and in person lessons. I wish you were in South Florida. My biggest problem so far is muting strings due to the heel of my hand touching the strings and I'm finding it difficult to overcome no matter where I move my thumb. Any suggestions? BTW, the icing on the cake is that you're also the prettiest guitar instructor I have ever seen.
Larry, hello! I actually just landed in Miami today for a conference. That's a very common problem you have and unfortunately, there are many possible reasons for this. Most likely it is your wrist placement. I will try to explain this as best as possible. What I want you to do is to drop your fretting hand down to the side and then bring it up to your guitar around the neck. This is the most natural position for you to hold your guitar. You also want to make sure that the body of your guitar is straight up and down not lying at an angle on your stomach.
@@LaurenBateman Lauren, Thanks so much for your reply. Wish I knew you were in Miami or I would have driven down from Delray just to say hello in person. In any case, I'm concentrating on keeping the guitar angled neck up and even bought a wide strap that helps me do that while standing and even sitting, but I guess it just needs more concentration and practice time. This is not going t o be an easy task but I know it's worth it if i can stay the course.
@Lauren Bateman As a 46 yrar old beginner starting lessons in the new year, you've given the most satisfaction from a single watch than many other vids. Was already familiar with first 2 chords but the clip experience was the cherry on top. Be watching a few more times and other vids. Thank you.
I'm 51 yrs of age since childhood I wanted to learn guitar but did not get the chance today I watched your video and learn something . A big thank you to you . God bless you
Wow! This is amazing. I have been struggling with full chord changes. You are right, these simplified chord changes are doable and definitely build up your confidence. I can do this! Keep them coming!
I've seen so many beginners easy this and easy that , Your teaching is amazing and absolutely worked , my playing is transformed and more importantly I can't wait to continue learning !
Brilliant Lauren. Wanted to learn the guitar for several years but never got around to it Two reason I didn't, one everywhere I looked made it seem so difficult because of the level I was at and the other, how could I control two hands so far apart. You are an amazing teacher and make it so easy to understand with your patients. I picked up a guitar a week ago 24/09/22, With your teaching method been able to play these four chords from memory, not great I admit, but much more than I thought possible it such short time. Thanks Lauren
Lauren, you have a special and unique way of breaking down the steps to learning guitar music and songs. Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm for music with all of us!
Hey Lauren. I am a pianist, have played the piano for 40 years. I fell in love with the guitar when I attended an awesome concert (John Mayer) togethers with my son. I thought that the guitar was too difficult for me, tried it and was not impressed. But your lessons are really good and I’m looking forward to practicing further...... 👍🤗 Thank you
'Practice until your fingers bleed' is a statement I have heard several times over the years. That goes pretty far but practice until they at least hurt ......... a lot.
OMG….. i just fall in love with this beautiful, gifted teacher. Will check out more of her videos. Right now I am super motivated to practice those four basic and simplified cords and see where it takes me. Yaaaaaay! I am so happy I found you Lauren!!!!!
Everyone can learn eventually, but it's how their taught that makes a good guitarist, You Lauren are a brilliant teacher. You've managed to teach an old drummer some chords, and I didn't hit the guitar once.......well, maybe tapped it, it's always been bongo's with wire on it in the past .
You have an incredible gift for teaching. It’s one thing to have a skill like playing guitar, but it’s a whole other thing to be able to share that ability with others. You understand the easily intimidated mindset of a beginner, and this lesson really strips down learning how to play and makes it accessible to people with no musical experience. Thank you so much for this video! 😊
I am 63 and just bought my first guitar about 6 weeks ago. I tried a couple of RUclips tutors but really found they were going too fast and expecting too much too quickly. So glad I found you!
I'm a song writer, so I need to have a base to write lyrics. My piano broke, so I'm borrowing my brother's guitar which idk how to play. I just need a base 😩 this was so helpful
I just discovered the over 50 tips. The hair dryer on my hands to warm up is my fav. I have Parkinson's a warming my hands is very helpful. I'm still working on horse with no name ha ha! But I won't give up. Thanks for the tips
I'm a bass player, fine on the bass playing fretted or fretless, however for years I've struggled with learning chords in my quest to learn a play chords on a 6 string acoustic or electric. Lauren is the best on line teacher I've ever come across. i'm a slow learner however her lessons are patient and precise. Thank you.
I've been "learning" guitar since I was a teen. I started up again recently and this is the best video I've seen. I love your "easy" chords for my old hands.
You are best, Lauren! You make learning fun, easy to understand, and confidence building. Thank you! With your teaching and encouragement, I know I will succeed this time.
Just got a guitar yesterday and I’ve learned all 4 with quick transitions with my eyes close in about 40 minutes because of you. I really like the way you break it down simplified. Definitely subbing.
i haven’t played any instrument in 7 years and i used to play the cello i picked up an acoustic guitar to have a new hobby and this has been really helping me i’m still struggling with finger placements but im getting there thank you:)
Hi Lauren, I am an absolute beginner. I keep the tuner on my guitar and when Im practicing these chords im watching the tuner all the time to see if the chords im playing are right if you know what I mean? It is getting me frustrated though because most of the time Im not playing them right as different notes come up on the tuner. Sorry to everyone if I sound daft here and this is not what I should be doing at all. Im attempting to teach myself through youtube!
Will definitely come back for more! I just roughly did a version of perfect by ed sheeran and i was pretty proud of myself thank you so much lauren!! 🤗
Hi Lauren, I am 66 and always wanted to play guitar but moving 3 fingers at once was indeed very frustrating to the point of quitting. However YOU my dear have saved me with your simple way of two finger cords. I am back.... Thank you Thank you... :)
I'm 50 and after trying for 30 odd years I found your tutorial very helpful after 4 days I the four cords memorized just trying not to touch the strings, thank you for your video!
after watching couple of your videos and reading some amazing comments i would say you are super creative tutor, you don't just deserve only likes or comments but also your videos should be shared and mentioned in specially a ton of thanks
just a little tip for some who might need it, i used to have difficulty figuring out what number my fingers are 😭 especially while reading chords, so i made a little key to help me with it. pinky - 4 ring - 3 middle - 2 pointer - 1
I finally bought my first guitar at 46 years old and am starting with this video today. Thank you Lauren for breaking it down in more manageable sequence. Greetings from Singapore!
Thank you, Lauren! I"m 76 and just started lesons again after nearly 20 years off and I love my teacher. But your presentation of the easy chords, and the explanation of the pivoting has been so helpful! I also have started your finger exercises. I'm going to go to your website to see if there's something I can purchase to put my money where my mouth is! Thank you and blessings!
To all beginners, Lauren should be your go to!!!!Lauren, all I have to say is thank you for being so amazing! I told my husband that I wanted to learn how to play guitar and he surprised me with an early Christmas present a week ago. I went into this not knowing anything and watching a few videos before finding you. Those videos are nothing in comparison to your teaching. I started with the video of becoming familiar with strumming and moving your fret fingers. Now I am learning chords! 💗
So happy to have you!!!!!!! Yes. This is what my channel is all about. Making the guitar make sense so you can have more fun. Have you checked out the full course yet? If not, www.laurenbatemanguitar.con/courseyt
I have had a guitar for years but never learned. I am 54 and have developed Dupuytren's Contracture in my left hand so my pinky and ring finger s bend. So I figured I could not play but watching your videos was amazing I learned the first for chords and am practicing switching chords. So hard haha anyway want today thanks and il be following more of you vids thanks again!!!
5 STARS I have really been frustrated at 42 trying to teach myself how to play guitar. I have watched many tutorials and they just make it worse. This lady makes sense to me and simplified everything where I got it. Thank you!!!!!! 🙏
I purchased guitar 6 months back, but almost gave up playing its so difficult,But you made it so easy that I started practicing again with your easy chord lesson. Many thanks to you.
I travel for work. My main instrument is the Tuba. (Kinda hard to travel with). I know brass, nothing about strings. I just picked up a guitar because I miss playing and have always wanted to learn. I find the way you teach to be both encouraging and insightful for beginners. Thank you for the videos. I'm looking forward to the next one.
Hi Lauren... I'm an older guy who just decided to try to learn the guitar.. I was getting very discouraged there until I watched this.. Love your slow patient style of teaching..😊
I am learning the chords well from the video. I will note that it helps me to stand closer to the frets and angle the body of the guitar away from me, so my hand doesn't touch the bottom string. Most people probably do that naturally, but I just figured it out from frustration.
Lauren, you teach so well, and speak so clearly! I am a fellow VRA member, and guitar player. My channel on songwriting is coming, but I started with Deeper With God, first. Good job getting to 100,000 subs! You’re an inspiration! James Ponak
Been struggling with finding a place to start with a guitar and been frustrated with trying to get 3 fingers going, these two finger cords built a lot of confidence, feeling better about taking this new hobby on. thank you.
literallty in 10 mins watching this vid i got Em, easy c and easy g strumming on my guitar and i already got lyrics written down as a hook. thank you. you got a sub :) keep up the great work.
I stumbled on your 4 easiest absolute beginner chords by accident. Iam 72 yo and it inspired me to play the guitar that my husband gave so many years ago. I hope I'll be able to learn from your easy lesson. Thank you !

Thank you for making these videos! I'm 70, soon to be 71 (14 days... eek! Lol) and refreshing my guitar 'skills'. Have never been an advanced player, or very good, just self taught, but adequate to go with my singing attempts... 😊. This time around, almost six years post stroke, the C chord has been giving me more trouble. I know I can handle the C you show, here! I'm so excited, words can't really express it! I play and sing, because I love guitar and love to sing, so only for my own pleasure and for a very small select number of friends. This will help immensely!

Same here!
@@NBA2KGod23 good luck👍
The simplicity of Laurens teaching methods makes learning to play easy, a pleasure & is motivational. The more successful a student is with each lesson the more they will enjoy playing & practicing. Thus a student will become proficient quickly prompting him/her to continue.
It's worth it to start lessons with Lauren.
George, thank you again kindly. I hope you inspire other students.
Thank you for video, I’ve subscribed. Picked up a guitar for the first time and now have three chords I can play and they sound good. I stopped at the first three for session 1 I will come back tomorrow and learn the fourth chord. But the video was so well done and easy to follow. Thank you
Rock on!!!
I bought my first guitar last week. I have been on guitar tricks and RUclips over this past week. I learned more in your 17 minute video then I have all week. I am so thankful!!! Life saver!
That is awesome!
I must say that you are my first "Go to" for lessons, Lauren. Thank you for putting these lessons up for us. You are a considerate and talented guitar teacher.
You're so welcome!!!!
I’m right handed and severely injured my left pointer and middle finger, so I picked up the guitar for physical therapy to get movement back in them. I’m so glad I found ur content bc you make learning less overwhelming. Thank u thank u thank u 🙏🏻
Glad you found my lessons helpful
This is my first week of learning to play a guitar. This was by far the most helpful and easy to follow along video I’ve watch! Thank you!
Glad it helped you!!!!
@@LaurenBateman❤
Lauren I moved to this one after your “First Lesson I will ever need” after making notes for string and fret practice which I continue to do with every sit down session. I love REPEATED INSTRUCTIONS! Much better than scrolling back. Thank you so much for taking time in your videos instead of rushing like you’re on a time limit!
Janie you are so welcome!!!
I am just about to get a guitar and learn from a teacher physically. Watching this is for me to get ready for it. So I am grateful to this tutor, I will always come to digest more. God bless you.
Hope it helps! Good luck with your teacher.
3 years later, and you're still helping the beginners. No one does it better.
Thank you.
Thank you so much!
Michael, so happy to help!!!!
Fantastic class. Use
to play a little, it's been years.
Thank you.
Awesome!!! Welcome to the channel.
Glad it was helpful!
I've seen so many beginners easy this and easy that , Your teaching is amazing and absolutely worked , my playing is transformed and more importantly I can't wait to continue learning !
Glad you enjoyed the lessons
Brilliant Lauren. Wanted to learn the guitar for several years but never got around to it Two reason I didn't, one everywhere I looked made it seem so difficult because of the level I was at and the other, how could I control two hands so far apart.
You are an amazing teacher and make it so easy to understand with your patients.
I picked up a guitar a week ago 24/09/22, With your teaching method been able to play these four chords from memory, not great I admit, but much more than I thought possible it such short time. Thanks Lauren
Glad to know!
The VERY BEST teacher for guitar. She TEACHES. Finger placement made easy and I am picking this up, at LONG LAST. I am a senior citizen!
Woo hoo. Happy to help!
Lauren, you have a special and unique way of breaking down the steps to learning guitar music and songs. Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm for music with all of us!
Aww thanks
👍🤗 Thank you
Elisabeth, wow. Thank you so much. Glad it helped you. John Mayer is great.
'Practice until your fingers bleed' is a statement I have heard several times over the years. That goes pretty far but practice until they at least hurt ......... a lot.
Thank you Lauren I really like this 4 easiest chords
You're welcome!
OMG….. i just fall in love with this beautiful, gifted teacher. Will check out more of her videos. Right now I am super motivated to practice those four basic and simplified cords and see where it takes me. Yaaaaaay! I am so happy I found you Lauren!!!!!
Wow, thank you!
Aww thank you so much! I am glad that you are able to learn from my videos. Just keep on practicing and happy learning!
Can’t thank you enough. Just found your videos. Have been trying to teach myself for the last 4 years.
Jan, welcome to the channel. So happy to help you on your guitar journey.
Aww thank you very much Matt!
My first guitar lesson and I'm actually excited about this journey that I'm about to take
special; thanks to Lauren Bateman
James you got this!!!!
I am 63 and just bought my first guitar about 6 weeks ago. I tried a couple of RUclips tutors but really found they were going too fast and expecting too much too quickly. So glad I found you!
Glad you found me too!!
Thanks Lauren@@LaurenBateman
A friend bought a guitar as present for my son this Christmas and definitely he will love this simple video lesson
Fantastic lesson, thank you for taking your time to share, made all the difference to me.
You're so welcome
I'm a song writer, so I need to have a base to write lyrics. My piano broke, so I'm borrowing my brother's guitar which idk how to play. I just need a base 😩 this was so helpful
Best of luck!
I just discovered the over 50 tips. The hair dryer on my hands to warm up is my fav. I have Parkinson's a warming my hands is very helpful. I'm still working on horse with no name ha ha! But I won't give up. Thanks for the tips
Wonderful!
Thank you.
Thank you for watching! Keep on playing!
I've been "learning" guitar since I was a teen. I started up again recently and this is the best video I've seen. I love your "easy" chords for my old hands.
Wow, thanks!
I really appreciate you taking your time and repeating steps so we master it thank you for helping all of us 😊🙏💕
You've got it!
You are best, Lauren! You make learning fun, easy to understand, and confidence building. Thank you! With your teaching and encouragement, I know I will succeed this time.
Yay! Thank you! You got this!
THANK YOU,THANK YOU,THANK YOU FOR THE EASY C!!!!!! Regular C is still a struggle you're the best
You'll want to get there eventually, but this is a good first step.
So happy to try this beginners course, suites my style, many thanks from saw doctor fan🇮🇪
Just got a guitar yesterday and I’ve learned all 4 with quick transitions with my eyes close in about 40 minutes because of you. I really like the way you break it down simplified. Definitely subbing.
That is awesome!
i haven’t played any instrument in 7 years and i used to play the cello i picked up an acoustic guitar to have a new hobby and this has been really helping me i’m still struggling with finger placements but im getting there thank you:)
Awesome! You are welcome!
Yes because when you play chords you are playing multiple notes and strings. I doesn't work that way. Only one string at a time.
Will definitely come back for more! I just roughly did a version of perfect by ed sheeran and i was pretty proud of myself thank you so much lauren!! 🤗
Oh that's awesome!!!
Day 1: Learning Guitar with no musical experience
everyone starts at day 1
Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
I am 71yrs old and been trying for 3yrs to learn chords you are making this a lot easier
Glad you found my lesson helpful.
Hi Lauren, I am 66 and always wanted to play guitar but moving 3 fingers at once was indeed very frustrating to the point of quitting. However YOU my dear have saved me with your simple way of two finger cords. I am back.... Thank you Thank you... :)
Thank you!
I'm 50 and after trying for 30 odd years I found your tutorial very helpful after 4 days I the four cords memorized just trying not to touch the strings, thank you for your video!
Yes! There ya go. Keep it simple and build from there.
after watching couple of your videos and reading some amazing comments i would say you are super creative tutor, you don't just deserve only likes or comments but also your videos should be shared and mentioned in specially a ton of thanks
Thank you so much 😀
I use finger 2 and 3 for em. Makes fingerings to other chords more fluid and can be more creative
Whatever works for you
just a little tip for some who might need it,
i used to have difficulty figuring out what number my fingers are 😭 especially while reading chords, so i made a little key to help me with it.
pinky - 4
ring - 3
middle - 2
pointer - 1
Thanks for sharing Stromy 😀
I finally bought my first guitar at 46 years old and am starting with this video today. Thank you Lauren for breaking it down in more manageable sequence. Greetings from Singapore!
Glad it was helpful! Hello Singapore!
Hi Terry! Do glad you are finding my method useful. I do have a full course:

Thank you!
Where there is a will there is a way

I have really been frustrated at 42 trying to teach myself how to play guitar. I have watched many tutorials and they just make it worse. This lady makes sense to me and simplified everything where I got it. Thank you!!!!!! 🙏
Wow! Thank you!
Very cool!
Hi Lauren...
I'm an older guy who just decided to try to learn the guitar..
I was getting very discouraged there until I watched this..
Love your slow patient style of teaching..😊
Hey thanks Pat!
So happy to help!

Rock on!
Complete newbie and you are the ONLY person I found to actual go slow and speak to me Barney style. Thank you.
You're welcome;
I am learning the chords well from the video. I will note that it helps me to stand closer to the frets and angle the body of the guitar away from me, so my hand doesn't touch the bottom string. Most people probably do that naturally, but I just figured it out from frustration.
Everyone has different physiology, so you do have to test what works best for you
Lauren, you teach so well, and speak so clearly! I am a fellow VRA member, and guitar player. My channel on songwriting is coming, but I started with Deeper With God, first. Good job getting to 100,000 subs! You’re an inspiration! James Ponak
Oh rock on. Love VRA
Been struggling with finding a place to start with a guitar and been frustrated with trying to get 3 fingers going, these two finger cords built a lot of confidence, feeling better about taking this new hobby on. thank you.

Aww thanks Joe!

Peter, glad to help!
That's OK. Do things at your level and have fun with it!
