Honestly idc about the ratio. I care about what was written on the treaty or I guess it was a peace accord. It pretty much said it was a tie. Just look up the Paris Peace Accords of 1972. We ended in a tie. South Vietnam existed at the end of the war, just like South Korea existed at the end of the Korean war. But you might be thinking to yourself "It doesn't exist now so we must have took the L". In the Paris Peace Accords of 1972 it stated that if North Vietnam or the Vietcong attacked South Vietnam that the USA would step in and rejoin the war. The thing was though when they eventually attacked South Vietnam the USA didn't rejoin because the president at the time ran his entire election campaign to leave Vietnam entirely and it would have been career suicide to rejoin the war. So we didn't rejoin and because we didn't rejoin we took the L. We didn't take the L because Vietnam beat us. We took the L because we didn't care.
It's like you are in a race with your friend to the end of the parking lot. You are obviously outrunning him, but you are getting tired so you look back and he's really far behind you, but he's not tired. So you both agree to say the race is a tie, but if you both wanted to continue the race at a later time then you will both start running again. Then your friend starts running and you see that he started the race again and you just don't care and he reaches the finish line. He passed the finish line before you and you took the L. But at the end of the day you take the L because you simply just don't care all that much. This is essentially the Vietnam War.
Any one who says the USA won the Vietnam war because to the casualty numbers is delusional. No, we ended the Vietnam war in a draw. That's like saying hypothetically if North Korea takes over South Korea tomorrow. Does this mean the USA lost the Korean war 60+ years ago? No, so why do we end the Vietnam war in a draw and then claim we lost? it was only like months later or a year later when they started attacking again and we didn't get involved. What does time have anything to do with it. It should matter what the Official documents say it was. The official documents being the Paris Peace Accords of 1972 which state that it was a draw.
