the meme about old polish army and modern polish army refers to poland accidentally invading Czechia and occupying a chapel on Czech-Polish border, this happened during COVID-19 pandemics in 2020. Nothing better was happening so it was all over our news and it was quite funny for both Poles and Czechs.

In all seriousness, on a Polish-Czech border, there are a bunch of houses that all lie within the Polish territory, all of them except for one small church. Since every building was Polish they kind of mistakenly assumed that the chapel must have been too, so once borders were closed they put guards there, and putting your military on another country's land can be considered an invasion. Needless to say, once religious Czechs(all five of them) came to take part in a mass they were greeted by Polish border guards.

8:47 as a gen z German whose grandparents were born in 1940-1941 (actually my grandma was born in a bomb shelter), I'm still trying to find out what my GREATgrandfathers did - they passed before my birth so I could never ask personally. So far I've figured out that one of them was in Denmark as part of the stomach sick bataillon (yes apparently this existed, and they were sent to Denmark precisely because they wouldn't really have to fight). I live in Denmark now. Usually it isn't awkward.
Similar story for me my grandma was born 1939
My family moved out of Germany in 1872 and I was singlehandedly blamed for ww2 in my South California high school 😂
Of the 4 Greatgrandfathers someone should have, i know some basics about two. The one born in 1920 lost a Leg during the War, he lived until 1989. The other one died in 1944. I´ve been too young to realize that their Generation would have had, lets say interesting, stories to tell. The two Great Grandmas i knew died in 2007 when i was 8 Years old. Thats the Age my Grandpa was, when he had to flee with his Mom (back then 28) and his two younger Siblings. They never wanted totalk about the war, never about their flight. Understandably, when you know what many german refugees experienced. I only know, that at one point all their belongings fell into a River and were swept away, that my Grandpa had to carve himself new shoes out of wood and that, after having not eaten nything for days, someone gifted them a piece of hard bread.
My thought process was exactly the same as Drew's. The Paraguayan war, the Chinese and the the Emu war.

A Polish platoon occupied a Czech church thinking it was on their side of the border and was a unintentional mistake.
Further context: The Czech-Polish border is a crazy mess due to multiple border changes and absorption by other nations/empires over the centuries, with the only demarcation between the nations being a river or thin tree line if you're lucky.
Examples: Polish city of Cieszyn and the Czech city of Cesky Tesin once being a single city and then divided in 1920 along the Olza River.
The area around the Polish towns of Rudyszwałd and Chałupki and the Czech towns of Silherovice and Hat having roads that bisect the border lines in multiple spots and where your neighbor across the street could be from the other country.
Suffice to say the whole border is a confusing mess through and through and without GPS or a good map can be quite difficult to ascertain the location of the border line.
Brazil-Uruguay border being a state of art of what a border need to be, just follow the water and draw some lines between one point and another.
@@C0lon0 Many countries follow that principle be it using river, mountains, large lakes etc. However, the Brazilian-Uruguayan border does share similar problems like the Czech-Polish border for example:
The Uruguayan city of Rivera and the Brazilian city of Santana do Livramento are right on top of each other.
Or near the Uruguayan town of Acegua where the road bisects the border in multiple spots.

Not just that, we won wars as well (just people forget that history isn't 1-2 century).

Actually yeah, random but explainable. After the second world war, when the west and east started to create friction, Finland was still very much recovering. So we stayed neutral, having a democratic government but not allowing the west to place troops or weapons on our soil and doing trade with the USSR but not allowing them control of our businesses. This made sure that we were neither foe nor particular ally to either side. Quite the balancing game, but we managed. Especially wood and things created with it were produce we traded with the Russians. Wood business was a big economical percentage for us, so when the Soviet Union collapsed, we were in a bit of trouble. Cue the electronics and other things that helped us get to a better place again. Coming back to why the meme is (in my opinion) quite accurate, it could be said we also farmed some companionship points with the USSR due to our peace agreement after the Continuation war. If I recall correctly, Finland was the only country to fully pay their agreed war reparations. We paid them to the Soviet Union, as I assume you figured. I believe the number may have been cut at some point, but overall we did pay the agreed sum. I personally believe that may have appeased the Russians even a tiny bit.
Before I go, I would like to point out that I wrote this all from memory and some information might be incorrect or forgotten. The war reparations were 300 million dollars later lowered to 226.5 mil in 1948.After the War-reparations were paid many major companies that had Trade with the USSR had a clause,that 80 percent of the total production volume has to go to USSR. The Soviet-Finnish trade was Clearing-Trade like the Fenno-German Trade during the war used to trade War-materiel,weapons, etc to raw goods,grain, precious metals, iron ore. Fins traded Industrial goods to raw resources and several agricultural goods that were not produced in volume in Finland. Finland won some brownie-points after staling forced us to start the Lapland War. Finnish Neutrality and good relations were sealed with the 1948 Fenno-soviet Treaty, the Same treaty form which USSR had in reality used to create the Warsaw Pact, and had later used their YYA-agreements to push through the occupations of many warsaw pact countries such as Hungary in 1956 and Czechoslovakia in 1968 after those countries faced strong strong anti-soviet riots
