There was no real language confusion in Austria-Hungary, as most people spoke 2 or even 3 languages and knew some german. And for the army ever soldier had to know some basic german words and every officer knew their regimental language. That system worked nearly for 400 years since the Habsburgs got the crowns of Bohemia, Hungary, Croatia and Austria.
True. German was practically the lingua franca + language of the Royals.
Croatia was not a crown, it was part of that of Hungary. There was massive confusion, check the Battle of Caransebeş.
@@genovayork2468 the Habsburgs had the title of kings of Croatia and Dalmatia. Just because it was administrated from Hungary for some time does not mean it was not its own kingdom. What about Caransebes? That battle never happened and is a myth. There are no sources, Austrian, Ottomans or local, that indicate any battle happened.

Also in medieval times every nation was kinda the same, even France, Spain and England having dozens of different cultures, religions and languages, its just in the 18/19 century they nationalized these different values in a single one that they have today.

England was one of the most diverse countries in Europe at that time, it had remnants of the old roman population, old anglo-saxon culture, welsh-celtic people, descendants of the vikings and the new french-norman rulers.

1:05 Ngl, am German, grew up in the most populous state (more or less in the centre, speaking N vs S) and I could not tell you a single person looking like this I went to school with. One classmate had albinism or sth similar, possibly. One dude had parents from India, another from Vietnam. Most everyone else looked German but not that kind of German. Odd init? That we have this stereotype, yet barely anyone looks like this. When I see a face like that, I immediately think Denmark or Sweden.
It’s a classical stereotype, not a modern one. Most of those types probably died in ww2 before having had any kids themselves (not to mention loads of kids of soldiers died as well at the end of ww2). And a whole lot emigrated post-ww2. Also diets and lifestyles changed a lot, generally speaking and is even believed to influence your offspring but individually Germans also simply have gotten fatter, which is going to change the facial appearance completely. However, it depends on your region. In East Germany you‘re still going to find plenty of Germans looking exactly like that, and much more so than in West Germany. And Germans simply don’t all look the same. There have always been regional differences. As far back as Germanic tribes - whom themselves did have variations in regards to looks from what I know.
