Not going to lie, I like the way these songs sound live wayyyy better than they do on the album.
Agreed. I know it's just an opinion and all, but I think they REALLY missed the mark on the album. I would have done things quite differently, but all I care about is that when I see them in October, Hutch will be at the board, and that means perfection.
I'm still not sure.. Yes the first times i listened to it, it didnt feel full enough. But in hindsight i do feel all the songs are very layered, and when being played live it kind of becomes a mess sometimes. Ofcourse this is also due to live recording, but i do think the hollowness on the album serves the writing of the songs very well. Also Josh stated in interviews that he wanted the music to sound like the air was sucked out of it. They accomplished that, so kudos for them!
The tightness on the mix is quite bold, I personally like it but I understand why someone woundn't. That's why I wanted to hear it live, to get both sides of the coin.
You should listen to it on vinyl.
To be fair, nobody cares what you think they should have done. As a long time fan, it was all right the first couple listens, but just keeps getting better and better the more I listen.
First time I saw them live was 2002, and although they don't really sound anything like they used to, I'll probably get tickets to see them on this tour too.
The actual greatest rock band of our time. Prove me wrong
No need, you are correct.
TOOL
Can't prove wrong what is right.
@@apollohermano8501 was talking about bands that have never had a bad album, and of course tool, qotsa, and radiohead were my three.
Right On ✨
Feet Don't Fail Me is FUCKING FANTASTIC

Thank You Good Sir
Time stamps are in the description though?
nixondoom but you can't click on the times which will automatically take yo to the song this man here is a hero
Alex GoCa thank you so much
Alex GoCa good job
Fortress is a fucking exquisite jam, holy shit
my fave tune
Duality It's like a rose queefed in a dark and desolate forest. The scent is comforting.
They need to release a live album of Villains.
Exactly!
They took it to 11 on this record.
Defo!
1 more than 10. 《Spinal Tap》
@@marycreaser6802 "well it's one louder, isn't it"
Breathtaking from beginning to end. So glad this band is part of my lifetime. Wild cool heavy and sweet. Yummy.
I'm quite sure that Josh and the others would be very pleased to have their music referred to as "yummy". If there was ever "yummy" music, it's QOTSA!
Jenna Lin Amen brother couldnt have said it better myself
Yummy!!!!!
@@cameronwick well said!!!
Josh Homme is yummy!!!
Those guitars could slice through fallout shelters.
The scaling synth on FDFM are the spunk icing on the worlds biggest orgy cake.
Orgy cakes probably DO have spunk icing on them... Your comment gets a Thumbs Up for accuracy, good sir.
The best musical description I ever heard :D
This is poetry.
Feet don't fail me sounds fucking amazing live
It's so smart what QOTSA is doing releasing their whole album basically for free worldwide on the internet. They know what the hell is up, and I guarantee you they will be getting better sales numbers than similar artists who are not so smart to adapt to the modern environment.
Cameron Wick I am asking this seriously and not in a dickish way at all...how does giving your album away for free translate into album sales?
There's not a lot of money in album sales AFAIK anymore, but if they can sell singles on itunes with zero overhead it's basically pure profit, and they'll sell more live tickets and merch, which has really good margins and mostly goes to the band.
Chris Lester people want to own a copy or a T-shirt or see you live etc.💲
You take a peak at it, like it, appreciate that you can listen to it for free and buy it anyway to have it in home. That's my particular case, but I also like to have physical copies of the records that I like, not sure if younger generations like to pay for records if they have them for free in online platforms for example.
Chris Lester 1,500 on-demand audio and/or video song streams = 10 track sales = 1 album sale. Of course, I don't know what RUclips or streaming services pay artists based on those numbers.
First time hearing QOTSA. Diggin it.
wade wilson ooh buddy I wish I was you listening to their stuff for the first time again. You just wait, listen to all their albums, no disappointment.
dig070799 currently listening to Neurosis TSIB, but will get right on this album right after :). Damn this is good RnR!
Check out era vulgaris and songs for the deaf
Josh Coleman era ❤
welcome
oh man thats a sick jam at the start
it's literally to the song lmao
This is exactly how the album should have sound. Just listen to this version of Domesticated Animals. Really aggressive, awesome drums!
I think the difference between this and the album is what keeps it interesting. The album is a real nice listen, they try to become a bit more grownup without becoming boring, but this (and oubviously there live shows) proof that they can still explode every venue they want.
It's like the "live at the basement" versions of the songs they did there. They'll never top that performance or this one IMO
Probably told to tone it down by the a holes in suits with Comms degrees.
Man, they're killing it
Jon fucking Theodore is only thing needed to be said! Best pick up for this band
As a drummer I can only agree!
As another drummer: Like him too...
S Mc another drummer here who couldnt agree more
You guys ever see the clip from Omar from Mars Volta talking about how letting Jon go was the dumbest thing they ever done. It's actually a funny clip.
S Mc ...yes... saw it just couple of weeks ago. Shame...
Fortress is quickly becoming one of my favourite qotsa songs. It's brilliant.
Holy shit, this whole performance was tight as fuck, but still could hear everything from drums to vocals, as intended. Villains suffers from the compression. It strangles everything. This concert was better than the actual recording of the album by miles!
Holy crap that performance of "I Sat by the Ocean" was so good.
And that The Evil Has Landed was a powerhouse
Their guitar tone is so on point, fucking hell
Who ever mixed / recored this is a genius. Sounds amazing.
Im on LSD right now, and I tasted the sounds of the intro... OMG
Fortress. I’ll never get tired of it.
the entire show is fantastic, but this rendition of "fortress" is unbelievable
That synth in the evil has landed basically gives away the fact that this is era vulgaris 2 disguised as a sequel to ...like clockwork
They totally kicked ass in Detroit last night with Royal Blood. If you can get tickets to see QOTSA do it! Live recordings are great but their live sound is astounding .. especially those guitars.
The record sounds incredible. Don't listen to it if you don't like it. Nobody is forcing you to. It's that simple.
+1 man, well said
It doesn't. Cry moar.
Villains is possibly the bands most accomplished album. It incorporates all of their best elements and it proves that they don't need guests to do what they do. LOVE IT!
What makes you think that? Couldn't disagree more. I think it's possibly their least accomplished. Have you heard songs for the deaf?
On the whole, Villains isn’t Homme’s strongest collection of songwriting. That said, it’s the first Queens Of The Stone Age album where the sounds behind it are consistently strong enough to carry the load. Contrarily, SFTD doesn't get better when it comes to rock albums
clanng oh yes the overrated sftd , that makes people like you shut your mind to anything else that is not the only album you hold up like a god
Opening is full Kyuss, desert-rock mode
Been a huge qosta fan since 2002...i don't think they can make a disappointing album but explore different ways to sonicly present it.This recording is GREAT...The producution on this live cut it excellent...Jon Theodore is much more natural soundign and the guitars have a fantastic punch, THIS IS better clearer sounding live cut - AND I enjoy hearing mistakes...makes it more human imo. the production on Villans is thin and less in your face - more dance oriented indie rock bs as opposed to lullabies or era....but fuck man ...no rock band can compare in modern times. Excellent song writing and this line up is incredible.Wont hate on the album cuz of its production cuz there's obvious stand out tracks that are already classics and keep coming back to it....and I play thrash-metal in a band so this is exciting to me all around.
WELL said!!!!!
Excellent review of the album and I think you're spot on. It's a fantastic album, with some stand alone songs but definitely needed that extra grit that you hear in this live rendition.
This proves the album deserved better drums mix
ya man and bass
yep exactly
Yes, man, they commmited a crime against Jon Theodore, one of the best drummers out there, and he sounds bland in the album due to the production. You can feel the weight of the drumsticks live, though. He's incredible.
Alejandro Madero na drums sound good on the album
Alejandro Madero afina los oidos pa
This production is fucking crazy good.
it's sweet as bro
This is an awesome fucking good album of pure and old style rock'n roll (of course, with a touch and refinement of a 2010's production...). There are some nice 70's, 80's, 90's references very easily recognized (there is a sabbath like sound that is impossible to not recognize, at the end, etc). Great! (sorry, my english sucks...)
Awesome opening to a fantastic album
Finally, a villains set list for reals. I hope they continue to play updated sets like this for the rest of the tour.
This sounds so much better than the album
Cry to Alan Moulder. He mixed it. Theres a handful of people who mastered it as well. But mark had nothing to do with the "sound" of the record. He helped make villians the note for note album that it is. However, if your issue is how you don't like the arrangement of the songs.... piss away at Mr. Ronson.
Damn straight
The producer might not have their hands on the console but they definitely have massive influence over the sound of the record. Take a look at the discography of both Ronson and Moulder and the sound of Villains is definitely more skewed towards Ronson's history.
I don't mind the album's production, makes it stand apart, very dance-y, but do wish the guitars had more bass and mids in the album mix, they feel a tad too brittle
BuddySyst3m true
The opening song sounds like something outta Flash Gordon. I feel it way down in my plumbs.
This is the SOUND, YES!
feet don't fail me now sounds MAD uau
The Evil Has Landed sounds so heavy! Nice!
"here...... we........ COME!" GAH DAMN!
These live versions are absofuckenlutely brilliant and I'm loving the first listen!!! Where has this been hiding all my life!!!!
I had no worries when the album came out, was waiting for the live versions. They can make anything gold live..
The new songs are awesome but I know now that they are meant to be listened to live. Wow.
Thank god I found this. Why didn't youtube shove it into my face?
Very good live performance they are the best band out now. I love how they change their sound with each album. Going to see them soon can not wait!
Goddamn the kick in Domesticated is amazing, i cant say better or worse than studio, but i need a live Spotify release of it.
Thanks for making this available to play really really loud while you are driving!
It's fucking awesome that they're playing the Feet intro live!
The bass and drums sound killer in this recording!
38:06 Well Josh messed up a bit and started the 1st verse a lil bit earlier, that's cute :)
Awesome mix for the whole live anyway !
They'll be playing in Brazil early next year, and I just can't wait.
Too bad its only 9 tracks we needed more
Mega Hump like is said we need more !!! Such great music (this is the only album i went to target and bought it ) i been waiting for this album for a couple of years
I. Like yo ur use. Of spac es
GEOVANNE RAMOS What I thought about the new album. Peace among worlds
GEOVANNE RAMOS it ended up being longer than ...Like Clockwork
nah....less is more.......I like when bands do that.
Metallica new one should have been 25 minutes shorter and it would be killer
What an outrageous opener. Nobody, but nobody, can fucking swagger like QOTSA.
This band is so cool that their musicianship and gear geekery go unmentioned. That was an absolutely perfect guitar performance by all four of these savage players
Sorry got lost in my anger at the ignorant. My main thought was AMAZING JOB QOTSA! I love anything you guys do. Keep rocking out and writing great music.
I´ve listened to this ...like 1.000 times already ...they are soooo great alive!!
Not arguing against you there sis! :-D
(pssst! ... if you click and remove the 'a' in alive, its still true and even better)
Still the best version of Feet Don’t Fail Me so far
How do I replace the songs on the album with THESE recordings. This sounds so much better! Now I can actually hear all of the instruments!
The description has a download to the recording, so you could just burn it to a CD.
I cant get enough of QotSA! Been waiting for the record for months. Thanks BBC! Gimmi some more!
These guys are just getting better with every album
What an opening to a set. One of my favourite live performances in the past 10 years this.
This is fantastic. Qotsa never misses a beat live.
Villians sounds good on the album (congrats Ronson), and also live. Queens have done it again 😎
Holy Jumping Effing Jeebus this is exceptional.
Bad ass! I love the new album! I love all their stuff as well. I think it takes a huge set of balls to record an album like this and in this way. They are constantly evolving musically and creatively and I think it's an amazing piece of work. Of course everyone is entitled to their opinions and that's cool. This is just my humble opinion.
Thanks a shitload for the download link. Hugely appreciate it.
Thanks for uploading dude this is epic
THIS LIVE PERFORMANCE'S SOUND IS MUCH BETTER THAN THE ALBUM ITSELF, PRAISE THE LORDSSS HAIL HOMME
Powerful!
Its quite interesting to hear an album that have different output of mix/sound from the live versions. We could hear the music in a different perspective. and of course to encourage us to go out more and watch their performance live. Artist like radiohead from kings of limbs era often do this kind of thing.
Want to hear head like a haunted house live badly!
same here. song rules. cheers man!
i wanna rock out to it
The Ghosts tunes in style!
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
all of them are awesome live :D
they sound soooo good live. can't wait to actually watch them
Fukin right onnnn
I live in Perth,Aus and just 10 mins away is a suburb called Maida Vale. If Only it were the same place...Josh would've left in the boot of my car🤗🤭.
Awesome lineup of songs and an epic sound. Been a fan of QOTSA for yrs and will be for many more👌🏻
Thought hideaway was my fav on this album but then fortress replaced it and now, after 3 years, I can say that villains of circumstance is the best dann song on “Villains “.
amazing opening...no words...
TWYUTD SOUNDS SO FUCKING BRUTAL IN THIS LIVE VERSION HOLY SHIT
This band is so talented& original& gifted in many aspects!no1 else sounds like QOTSA or Josh Homme!!
One hell of a band
This video made a good morning so much better!
I am so excited for November to see them live again!
Berlin here we go
That's the first time I seen the full-scale artwork. The demon has three arms...?
yes, Josh uses to solo
anyone notice the demon also looks a little like nick?
god i wish there was a video camera there
Wow... Agree with many others that these tracks sound so good live. Much more powerful!
10:06 Jon Theodore is a beast!
I will go in the show in february in São Paulo,no doubt!!!! this new album is badassss!!!
They're such a great live band, man! See them in Brooklyn in 2013... Stupendous!
Saw them at Usher Hall in Edinburgh 2 weeks ago. Absolutely amazing!!
√ An album that just gets better and better. Thanks for this live session!
Fucking kick ass live! Needs more cowbell though.
Echo Sevanz I've got a fever...
Definitivamente QOTSA es una de las mejores bandas de la actualidad.
always better live in my opinion one of best rock bands in our solar system
A great fucking example of a band putting out an album that they can play live as well. Great listen.
Thanks for the download link !
What is he saying in the opener of feet don't fail me
I thought it was "same thing, same thing, on and on"
But here I think it's
"Chasing, chasing"
Slimmy_007 i think it’s chasing, chasing
Answers
Wanna know
I always thought it was "dancing, dancing..."
So glad I have this in my life...effortlessly cool🐲🐉
Their masterpiece so far, 1st album is really good as well though
Damn it! Se escucha increíble!!!
Toda la razón hermano!!
Goddamnit, Mikey's screaming sounds like a fucking panther at the end of 'Domesticated Animals'.
