    i like how when she put the frozen onion in 400 degree oil it started doing what it was supposed to do and chaotically splatter hot oil everywhere and even start dripping out of the pot, that is, until the magical video editing where it suddenly leveled out.

      yeah outbacks flour is red by the time its finished being seasoned. and she needs way more flour before and after. you dont have to let it set. you should cook it at 350° for 2 minutes on both sides. make sure you drain the oil

      Next on news 9: dozens of house fires, started by a new 'trend'. Making the famous FRIED onion snack at your local steakhouse such as Outback or Texas Roadhouse, but every household is shifting the blame towards a RUclips cooking tutorial channel. The claim she told them 'freeze the onion covered in better, before dunking it in hot oil.

    1) They look delicious!
    2) Do this outside, on grass or concrete
    3) Before starting, put the whole onion in a pot, fill the pot with water to cover the onion AND MEASURE. Make a mark, dump the water, dry the pan, and fill with oil ONLY TO THAT POINT.

    I worked for Outback Steakhouse 10 years (the 1990s), and was a store manager for about 7 of those years. Ive cut them by hand and with a Bloom cutter. Seasoned, fried and served hundreds if not thousands of them... The first step is cutting the onions, then refrigerating the onions for 24 hours. THEN the preparation phase begins once an onion is ordered. The onion this woman cut probably needs to be cut another third or so, otherwise the onion petals are too big and won't caramelize while its cooking. Her seasoning isn't correct either.

    The main key to preparing blooming onions is to freeze before frying, and fry the onion cut-side down, not up. Fry it cut-side down so the onion can remain open. If you're in a hurry, just fry yourself some onion rings.

    • @wiibaron
      @wiibaron 10 лет назад +7

      Go to fridge/store[if going to store, bring money], twist off lid of jar/bottle, using your wrist. Pour into wide bowl or onto plate. Using two fingers, pick up petal from onion blossom and move it towards sauced area[as previously described], Turning petal downwards only, place petal about halfway down into sauce/dip/liquid and remove immediately in one motion. Raising hand[with sauced petal] toward mouth, carefully place into your hole without biting fingers. Chew inserted food 10 -20 times and swallow. Repeat process until onion is gone OR your stomach is full. Never attempt to place any petal back into sauce that has been bitten halfway. Clean up any mess with soapy water and wipe eating area down with dampened cloth. This should help the helpless and you are welcome in advance...

    I've seen someone's footage about duplicating outback's bloomin' onion. he soaked the colossal onion in ice water overnight so that the 'petals' would 'bloom' nicely. It's a lot easier to double-coat the onion if the 'petals' were not sticking to each other.

    • @YoutubeKiller
      @YoutubeKiller 9 лет назад +15

      Really the ice is to keep from browning. Its actually easier to petal out by fanning them with your pinkie to make sure they stay un glued. And you are right , the first coat you fan with flour till all is coated, turn on its back and lightly tap the back of the onion , till all excess flour is out , then dip in the milk , then repeat. Just second time just use one hand to hold the bottom while your stronger hand use your fingers to gently fan the petals in a flapping motion so every portion is coated. Best thing if you have a large enough deep fryer, put the bloom down face first and slightly spin it into the grease, That allows the petals to open up more. I know , i cook blooms at out back for a living.

    • @Billythachikk
      @Billythachikk 10 лет назад +40

      Yeah, I guess all cooks on videos ought to say a disclaimer for gas stoves in the beginning. A lot of people would be stupid enough to do this on such a stove. It's not a problem with a normal stove like this, though. If it spills out, there's no flame to ignite it. But if you have a gas stove, it could get ugly.

    • @Tittlesnhizmouf
      @Tittlesnhizmouf 10 лет назад +12

    • @Billythachikk
      @Billythachikk 10 лет назад +22

      Tittlesnhizmouf Well, every adult should honestly know that you should never put grease near an open fire. And a gas stove has an open fire. So I would say, yeah, you're stupid if you're over 18 and start a fire like that. Stuff like that ought to be learnt when you're a kid, BEFORE you start cooking at all.

    • @KatotownUSA
      @KatotownUSA 9 лет назад +11

      it's common sense when deep frying with an open flame to use a much larger pot than you need. Anyone that doesn't know that deserves to get burned

    • @Billythachikk
      @Billythachikk 9 лет назад +2

      JRScrambo Also, don't use a gas stove. I mean, when I tried this recipe (which failed, by the way) we didn't use the biggest pot, and it worked just fine. If you're careful (like with all cooking) everything will be fine, nothing bad happened, although it did spill out slightly, which was fine because we didn't have a gas stove.

    O.K. I shouldn't be here & I'm losing weight & using: Focus T25 & lost 4 inches on the waist. Now I see this decent looking female who's smiling as she cuts the onion as well the whole clip! Now I have to go eat: Egg whites, oatmeal, drink water then exercise!!! Well I lost a total altogether of 35lbs. But when I get the real desired look I want like the: Terminator said: I'LL BE BACK!

      Good job on loosing the weight. Plz tell me how u did it. I'm desperate

    • @rickames
      @rickames 10 лет назад

      It took me 35 minutes to tell you what I did & I accidently lost it what I typed too you. Short & simple! Eat all junk in cabinets & fridge. Have a made up mind to succeeded in weight loss! 5--6 meals per day, 7 if you are working out & use weights or DVD'S ! Proteins include: Fish, Turkey, Seafood, Chicken, Black Beans, etc. Carbs are veg, sweet potatoes, potatoes etc. Don't eat carbs four hours prior to bed time. Ex. If you are going to bed @ 10 pm, it's ok to have carbs by 6 pm, but don't eat carbs @ 8 pm. Turn to sugars in the stomach. Have healthy snacks....flax seed, sunflower seeds, string cheese, etc. Work your way up to drinking a Gallon of water per day, ( remember work your way up to it )
      Have exercise regiment...Focus T-25...Billy Blanks, etc...or weights. Eat every 2-3 hours per day! Have a cheat meal, ( NOT A CHEAT DAY ) I put on 7 pounds in a matter of hours, don't over do it, but have a light cheat meal once or twice a week, don't go over that! Next have time for a DETOX at end of the week & don't go anywhere! Do courtesy flushes & dextox! Your skin would look better, you will feel better, & still remain or become humble! Some will tell you you're loosing weight, but if you're not careful you can easily put it back on! Good luck!

    If you were using a gas stove, the entire house would be on fire after you placed that onion in the pot. Our neighbor had a grease fire and it caused over $100,000 in damage to the home.

    after you cut the onion soak it in ice water for a bit and it loosens the onion petals a little bit

      there's a great dipping sauce, with it, just Tamarinde seeds, add a few spoons of luke warm water, soak the seeds in it, and squeeze the seeds untill most of the fruit becomes gravy; they serve that for Indian pakhora's too, because fried onion, they do in India also, and they use besan (chick peas) flour, the sour taste of the tamarinde is great with it

    you should try putting your fried foods on a cooling rack instead of paper towels so it doesnt sit on top of the drained oil.

    • @matthewlacey4198
      @matthewlacey4198 3 года назад +3

      Its 7 years later, but as the food cools, it reabsorbs the oil, even if it's on a rack in a baking sheet, paper towels are better bc they absorb excess oil before the food can reabsorb it
