    Some well done tips on a blooming onion is just fine if it means avoiding mixing flames, flammables, boats and open water.

    Loved the outtake at the end! Looked really tasty Rus! You won't quite get that oily fried goodness in an air fryer, but you're right, it ain't bad. I always appreciate your honesty on your videos and I'm glad you're having fun with your son on the boat. Let's see some more fishing!!! Oh, check out the Air Fryer Queen "Booger" LOL. Cheers to ya brother!!!

    Looked really good Russ ... I spray the bottom first then place in the air fryer .. For 5 mins and open then I spray the top with oil and let it continue on . if you spray while the flour is uncooked it can take the flour off ... Great job and thanks for sharing Russ

    We love those at Outback and always order one. We have an AF and now always use it for French Fries. So much easier and very good. Wings are good too. Takes some practice to learn what works best. The BO looked pretty good. Semi successful is good for starters. LOL Y'all have a great time.

    Pssssssssssssst :) Rus...My most challenging cook in the air fryer is the blooming onion...then it was burnt ends ..but I did by golly! I really need to get my hands on that slicer though for real. Air fryer is genius for the boat though..acts like a microwave as well . Nicely done Rus, HI T!

    I see lots of the onion slicers on ebay for a decent price 15 to 30 dollars , im going to have to get me one , looks like an awesome tool , as for the air fryer , im still a hold out using my cast iron and deep fryer lol , one of these days im going to break down and buy one , great video ..!!!

    • @SmokyRibsBBQ
      @SmokyRibsBBQ  5 лет назад

      Thanks! Yeah those slicers make short order of making these blooming onions. Hey I don't blame you about the cast iron dutch oven for deep frying. Real frying just can't be beat. Thanks for watching, I appreciate it!

  • @johndavidson940
    @johndavidson940 2 года назад

    This was a great video demonstration. I like how resourceful you are. Missing a part? No problem, I got something else that will do the trick. I have that same gadget and used it once. I do not care for the labor intensive effort involved in preparing an onion for the magical deep fry goodness. At the end of the day, Bloomin Onions are no different than regular Onion Rings. Just looks prettier on a plate in the center of the table.

    Dukes mayonnaise and Heinz ketchup the best. Love blooming onions that didn't look that bad bet it was still good even though it wasn't cooked in a fryer.

  • @haroldm4946
    @haroldm4946 5 лет назад

    Great job Rus.... I do an unbloomin onion... cut into petals all the way thru, it's easier to deal with just petals than the whole onion, and uses much less grease, buttermilk and flour. Obviously I don't care about presentation, just good eats.

    • @SmokyRibsBBQ
      @SmokyRibsBBQ  5 лет назад +1

      I usually just do thin onion rings now days using this same recipe

  • @nancyjackson2279
    @nancyjackson2279 Год назад

    I was screaming at my phone to use a smaller bowl😂 You can add a bit of water to top off the buttermilk.This looks easy enough. I'll give it a try. But i just used a paring knife to slice the onion.
    Jealous of your son living on a boat. I love the water❤ just noticed how old this video is😊. But heck, bloomin onions dont change!

    My wife has a serious illness, so she finds happiness where she can and became ADDICTED to the Outback Bloomin' Onion. It was cheaper to make them at home and much healthier in an air fryer. They are a bit different, but she can't get enough of them. Pro tip, use Frank's Red Hot sauce instead of ketchup in the dipping sauce for a more authentic flavor.

    • @SmokyRibsBBQ
      @SmokyRibsBBQ  5 лет назад

      I really love blooming onions as well. Yes these are different but still not bad at all and I'm sure much healthier. Thanks for the tip with the Frank's Red Hot Sauce. I'll give that a try and taste the difference it makes.

  • @PaiviProject
    @PaiviProject 5 лет назад

    Well okay I thought that version is still fantastic...I mean you in the boat after all. So much safer to make some airfry creations. I so much liked the cutting devise you used ! I've only had blooming onion few times in my life....so this version would work for me better...since I really don't know any better ! and with that dipper...I would totally love it ! Yummy yum 💗

    • @SmokyRibsBBQ
      @SmokyRibsBBQ  5 лет назад

      Yeah, it wasn't bad at all, I just know from experience in cooking these that a real deep fried onion is much better, but I had to at least try it to see. The dipping sauce however is excellent and goes well with seafood too. Thanks Paivi, I appreciate it!

    Long time since posted this video, but I have to add that the onion chopper is now 94.00 on Amazon which is ridiculous. But on eBay there's places for less than 20.00 and about 9.00 shipping and handling. Just in case someone comes across this.

    P.S, a minute and a half is slow for an experienced bloom guy.
