And also remember this girl had been treated like a prophet since she a little kid. There last also a very real narcissistic personally disorder going on there. So yeah, there are a few reasons to feel sympathy for the woman. She was human, and I think that kind of idealization is a form of abuse. Now we know that letting a kid have everything they want isn’t good for their development, can you imagine going to your 6 or 8 year old sister for advice about your marriage? And even further, following said advice because you think it’s a message from God? There’s just so much to unpack in that whole situation. It's so sad to hear about.
But then the people who follow them so incredibly whole-heartedly absolutely baffles my mind.

For anyone struggling with mental health issues, we should never believe that medications, alone, can help us. I was raised by a psychologist, & surrounded by mental health professionals & to finally get sober, I needed therapy & meds. If you meet a psychiatrist (the dr that can prescribe the meds), & that dr doesn't encourage you to also try therapy, I wouldn't trust that dr. Its also really important to remember that therapist & drs are also human, & they may not meet your needs, for a variety of reasons. They not have the experience you need, which can be related to race, gender, class, etc. They may not known enough about addiction, or trauma & abuse. They may just be a bad fit for you, maybe your personality & theirs doesn't jive well. That's all normal, & you should just try a new one. Remember that you can & should advocate for yourself, ask questions. It saved my life, & the lives of many of my favorite people.

Agreed. Just talking helped me. The meds I had been prescribed, I did not do well with. They effected me the opposite way than they were supposed to. So I stopped them gradually. Just getting a counselor, got me back on my feet. I needed no medication at all in the end.

Medication is mainly just to calm you down but in order to actually solve the problem you have to face the sole cause of it and that can only work if you're truly honest with yourself and others. We all don't share the same experience but you can paint a map on how you got from here to there.

Yep! I grew with anxiety and depression, and I'm getting better now because of therapy. The meds help to think straight and function a bit better, but therapy is a life-savior. Also, if your meds are not helping AT ALL or making your health worse, go to a doctor to change them. For therapy, they are multiple types of therapy, so something might not work but something else may.

People want too much and, in equal measure, fear that we don't have enough and that we always gotta turn to someone else for security. Not to mention the attention you get with many people following you and doing as you say, it looks like such a drug to have all that control over others. It's kind of "funny" that a cult leader born on Christmas day, and so seen as a sign because of the Christ (Jesus wasn't born on Christmas, but whatever), thought Napoleon's son was the antichrist.

fyi, Zwingli's contribution to theological thought is understood to be as a former of Protestant practice. Where as Calvin formulated how Protestants thought/ understood the scripture, Zwingli tried to liberate Protestant's from Catholic practice. It was not so much Zwinglians can do 'what ever they can justify in the Bible', but they can not be compelled to do things not found in the Bible ie Saint days, fasting basically any type of works

Having grown up in a rigid slightly fanatical family (though not as crazy as this one), I know the line often disappears between religious mania and mental illness. Perhaps mentally vulnerable people are drawn to religious cults, but I think it's more often the case that fundamentalist religion (of whatever faith) often drives people into madness.

Why do people mutilate their body and pretend to be another gender? It's about forcing their ideas on others and filling a void in themselves where they think they aren't good enough. Usually because they hate part of themselves. It's sad.

  • @leileyaravencroft
    @leileyaravencroft 5 месяцев назад +1

As I am listening to the very beginning about Margarette being very knowledgeable about the Bible at a young age, at first I thought that was probably exaggerated, but then I remembered at 5, I recited a Bible book, chapter, and verse verbatim to stop going to church.
No, I am not making this up. My grandmother told many people the story including her sisters as they wanted to know why I was no longer attending church. It is one of her favorite memories of me from my younger years and it is mine as well… for entirely separate reasons.
Even as a child, I was not religious in the slightest which was something my grandmother was very much aware of but being a Southern black Baptist, the only reason you could miss church was because you were sick.
I remember attending and very much disliking the entire experience. It went on for far too long (I swear it took hours though my grandma said it didn’t), I did not like how people were behaving when they received the Holy Ghost/Spirit (I once witnessed a young woman getting up during a song and dropping to the ground and flopping about. I believe I was 4, and I asked my grandmother about that. As a child, the only time I had seen anyone behaving like that was during a tantrum and my grandmother said very happily “Oh, she just got the Holy Spirit” I turned to look down at this young woman and my first thought was “She’s faking…”), and probably the only time I really disliked going to church was Easter. I was chosen to give an Easter speech. I was pretty excited for. I received a little green card of my speech. It was a paragraph. I memorized it as I was instructed to. I would dance around the kitchen reciting it over and over.
The next morning the day had come. I was a little nervous but *very* excited. My grandma pulled up beside the church where a special entrance was for guest speakers and the church choir.
My grandmother turned to me and asked me to recite the speech. I opened my mouth and I couldn’t. I couldn’t remember anything past the first few words. My grandmother flew into a rage, demanding for me to remember. I just couldn’t. She then got out the car, walked over to a tree, and snapped off a branch. These are called switches and if you know what they are… you probably winced just now. They were used to discipline children. My grandmother beat me every time I got a word wrong, she beat me for not remembering the speech. Eventually, we went inside, she made me clean my face because I had been crying. I went up on that stage.. and still couldn’t remember the stupid speech. I was 4!
After that, I just could not take it anymore. It was already bad enough that I was forced to listen to people talk on and on about something I really didn’t believe in, made to wear a dress (I hated dresses with a burning passion and still to this day, wearing a dress is like making me wear a prison uniform), and finally that Easter speech situation. Yeah, I was done.
One Sunday, my grandmother woke us up and began to get ready for church. I was laying in bed watching cartoons and watching her moving back and forth as she dressed. She told me I should hurry and get ready so that we could go to her sister’s house and leave all together as a family for church. I looked at my grandmother and told her I was not going. She demanded to know why since I wasn’t sick.
I proceeded to tell her that according to the Bible, we do not have to attend church as we carry it with us always. I even recited the Bible book, chapter, and verse. My grandmother got her Bible and opened it to exactly where I had said. It was exactly as I had told her.
I was given permission from then on that I did not have to go as it was obvious that the Holy Spirit had directed me to the exact place in the Bible to prove my point. Never went back.

Your grandmother was horrible in thinking that a 4 year wouldn't get nervous or have stage fright. Oftentimes a lot of older folks tend to be super traditional in regards to religion or faith in general. I think it stems from their grandparents or even great grandparents not being able to read and thus hanging on to everything the pastors says without checking scripture and thinking its true. Unfortunately I still see it happening and it weird because those old folks are so stuck in their ways and beliefs ,that its impossibke for them to conceive that everything they have been taught about God is wrong.

@@loisburns2110 I'm confused, you're shocked that someone in the 1860s knew about the freemason symbol from the 1700s? I think some of you would be blown away if you realized how many freemasons were also religious. Because the freemasons were just, you know, Lutherans who liked to drink away from their wives, and also build things with stone. Hence the "mason" part.

@@loisburns2110 The painting is absolutely stunning but I'm confused a bit by your comment about the eye in the pyramid and some secret?
As to my understanding that particular depiction is the Eye Of Providence, as in God is watching all those beneath him and that was already a popular depiction by roughly the mid-to late 1700's.

Another very good video. To clarify, you spoke of the Zwingli church as if it was kind of culty but Zwingli was just another Protestant reformer like Calvin and Luther of which denominations are associated with. The reason they were focused on obeying the Scriptures is because for the first time they had full access to the Scriptures and thus they were skeptical of authorities who went against the teachings in the Bible like they believed the Catholic Church and the elite did. With the modern translation into their native language they for the first time was able to read the Bible for themselves and so you had many groups fascinated with reading the Bible front to back.
Because of this the way you described them as being able to do whatever they wanted as long as they believed it was what God wanted them to do isn’t quite accurate. They were just trying to be very discerning of what leadership was telling them. For example this was the first time they were reading that God viewed all people as equal and that no matter your class God still viewed you highly, this was in stark contrast to the leadership of the day that stated the elite were ordained for a higher calling and more loved by God because they were born in a different class.
