I still cry myself to sleep at night, knowing we'll never get the conclusion to Guillermo Del Toro's Hellboy trilogy. It deviated from Mike Mignola's stories but I love those movies.
I clicked on this video without paying much attention to the thumbnail, fully braced and prepared for the bellowing "WWWWWWWWELCOME WELCOME WELCOME" intro, only to receive an unexpectedly gentle alternative, and I'm not sure how to feel now. Is this Fantasy News Whiplash?
It's wild that a nerdy news-style update video is where I learn that Redbox is owned by the people who churn out those Chicken Soup books - and what a wild rabbit hole that led me down. They also own Crackle, and the film and TV rights to SONAR entertainment (including all of Laurel and Hardy's works and a good number of Hal Roach's). Absolutely wild.
Yeeaahhh, not all comics are superhero comics.😅😅🤔👀 I'm not super into most comics, outside of manga, myself-but this is something I've pondered about every time Daniel mentions Hellboy. Lol
Slight correction, but I work for a Blackstone company lol. I believe Blackstone's biggest purchase of a single was Home Partners of America, at 6 billion dollars, or AIR Communities, which was another REIT, for 10 billion dollars.
Hell(boy) Yeah! Crooked Man! I'm really excited for this one, it's a great storyline from the comics, and I've been saying for years the heart and soul of the Hellboy franchise really isn't the big myth arcs that previous movies have dug into; it's the Monster of the Week bits, the pick a year from the 50s to the 80s, Hellboy saunters into a town and ends up punching their problems stories. That's where the world really lives! The Anung Un Rama bits just pin them all together.
11:00 Wow im impressed and excited that the OP live action managed to get David Dastmalchian onboard as Mr 3. Hes a perfect Alabasta Mr 3 although it will be interesting to see if he can provide the goofiness needed going forward post Alabasta
Heyyy, fun fact: I wrote "undulating' under a D&D community post on youtube for a channel that wasn't Merphy, but I thought it was. Guess who's gonna redeem himself now? Say it with me: undulating.
I've read the crooked man, now I'm super excited for a new Hellboy project! I wonder if they'll lean into the horror elements and make it more of a horror story?
The Crooked Man, for us Hellboy fans, is THE classic Hellboy Horror story, basically a Faustian deal that young HB stumbles into. Story is amazing…what I’m seeing so far? Well? Better than the 2019 movie, right? Not a high bar admittedly. Still, I’ll go see it.
I just read Elder Race by Adrian Tchaikovsky and cannot recommend it more. I didn't know about snakes but I did know he likes to rebuild old typewriters.
I don't care what people say, I ain't giving up on The Crooked Man so soon. Maybe it's low budget, maybe it won't have any kickass action like the previous movies, but none of that will matter if it has a good story. And I really like The Crooked Man story in the comics. It's good. Read it. Please.
Something to note: the strikes last year were from the WGA (writers) and SAG (actors). This tentative deal is for IATSE, which is the below the line workers AKA everyone else in the film industry.
The Worst part about the Harbor Hellboy was that it was SO CLOSE to being really good! another solid month in the writing room in prepro and they could have made it happen!
Bounty Hunter was also just re-released on PS4 a few years ago and no other systems. Asypr (developer)and Embracer Group (publisher) have been remastering the old Star wars games on modern consoles for years now--this is just the latest release. This new release of SW: bounty hunter is on Switch, XSX/S and Steam/PC for the first time too.
Getting Merphy just for OPLA casting news is hilarious! Casting David Dastmalchian for Mr. 3 is wild! Maybe they could get a big name for Miss All Sunday. I would vote for Eiza Gonzalez. My only issue is that, to me, the guy playing Dalton looks like he should be playing Smoker and vice versa.
I never saw the 2019 Hellboy, but i did see the trailer and the bit in it where he goes "Hey! Im on your side!" After random soldier dude shoots at him is something i quote *ALL* the time. But this sounds more like what Hellboy should be If they were to ever bring back Ron Perlman now, just do it as an animated movie. Hell Del Toro is working on stop-motion films, Hellboy would suit a stop-motion film i reckon
Ranma 1/2 is amazing. Despite the episodic nature of the anime and some jokes that feel let's say outdated today, I still think it's a great interpretation of a story that deals with themes of gender and sexuality in a martial arts absurdist setting. I think many people who grew up with this anime might have discovered something about themselves thanks to it. It definetely had a strong influence on me. It's a very progressive story set in a very backwards society. It was written by a woman (Rumiko Takahashi) in the 1980s, and you can imagine how it could have been to be a female mangaka back then, the writing is very aware of all the sexism that there's in the story. I can see that many might not like it, but to me it's one of the best.
We just need a BRPD TV series with Hellboy cameos. It would just work better and allow writers to be as loose or adherent as they want with the source material.
Hellboy 2: The Golden sequel was a peak that could have been reached if Guillermo del Toro was able to make another Hellboy movie with Ron Perlman. I'm glad I didn't watch the 2019 film and only heard about wed of wyrd from Yahtzee having to censor the game identity because of an embargo.
Finally, someone with a good take on the new Hellboy movie. All the Del Toro die hards have been hating it. I love the del toro hellboy movies too but they arent at all like the comic character

Murphy might be my favorite substitute teacher with an old CRT tv for Fantasy news.
Wow that green screen was magnificent 😮
I thought you were just trying to be on brand for the channel and I thought "she committed!"
@@DanielGreeneReviews😂
Will take this chance to recommend 100 girlfriends manga at the same time to you two
I’ve never seen better green screen effects in my life
I expect more book slappin next time around.
"I forgot to end the video" has to be one of the best cellphone cut-ins on this channel, sorry Daniel, but that was hilarious
Man Daniel looks better than ever this week. Must be new lighting or something.
I'm undulating with excitement at the prospect of an episode hosted by Merphy Napier
Curse you and curse Merphy for exposing me to that word, it's been 3 years, I still can't unsee it everywhere
A week without Fantasy News is a week without Fantasy News
Truely profound
Truth
Time dilation means that a week without Fantasy News is actually two months without Fantasy News
I still cry myself to sleep at night, knowing we'll never get the conclusion to Guillermo Del Toro's Hellboy trilogy. It deviated from Mike Mignola's stories but I love those movies.

Guys seriously bring merphy in whenever there is anime news
Did not expect her to make a wind breaker and mahouka announcment
It's wild that a nerdy news-style update video is where I learn that Redbox is owned by the people who churn out those Chicken Soup books - and what a wild rabbit hole that led me down.

I love the continual collaboration between your two channels!
Love that brilliant closing point about Daniel and his cellphone footage cut-ins! 😊👏🏻👏🏻💖😂🤣
Hellboy The Crooked Man looks like the comics I remember. I trust Mignola to bring us the proper Hellboy.
Yeh😊
It looks like a cheap horror fan film, and from the director of Ghost Rider 2, it's gonna be bad.
@@qtr_ent1701Ghost Rider 2 was magnificent. You can talk about his other comic book movies being bad, but I will not tolerate Ghost Rider 2 slander.
Even outside of orchestra, Tchaikovsky's restless ghost still haunts me
Feeling optimistic about this Hellboy, especially with Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden writing the screenplay.
Pirate Queen Merphhhh! 😁 Taking over? Good!!! Daniel, leave, do not disturb the undulating! 😂
Hellboy isn’t a superhero… he’s a horror comic that takes inspiration from global folklore.
Yeeaahhh, not all comics are superhero comics.😅😅🤔👀 I'm not super into most comics, outside of manga, myself-but this is something I've pondered about every time Daniel mentions Hellboy. Lol
Haven't seen Daniel Green in some months. Wow, they really let that hair grow! Talk about dedication to your sponsor.
I wonder what Pips and Mako will think of having a snake brother
Thanks for covering the news, Merphy! :D
Excellent fantasy news! Love Murphy!
Wasn't expecting Merph.
Love to see it
Slight correction, but I work for a Blackstone company lol. I believe Blackstone's biggest purchase of a single was Home Partners of America, at 6 billion dollars, or AIR Communities, which was another REIT, for 10 billion dollars.
0:06 so what you're teling me Merph, is that Daniel.... technically.... came to Brazil??
Brazil mentioned
Or Peru or Colombia, The weren´t very specific.
From 2 minutes of research, it was Ecuador. That won't stop me from believing Daniel Greene came to Brazil though.
@@caiomaida3630 close enough.
The best fantasy news i have ever watched
Nice!!!! We love her
Daniel has never looked better

Hell(boy) Yeah! Crooked Man!
I'm really excited for this one, it's a great storyline from the comics, and I've been saying for years the heart and soul of the Hellboy franchise really isn't the big myth arcs that previous movies have dug into; it's the Monster of the Week bits, the pick a year from the 50s to the 80s, Hellboy saunters into a town and ends up punching their problems stories. It's not the guest host that throws me, it's the change in backgrounds.
To me, Smoker 's introduction comes down to inclusion of the "Sorry little girl, looks like my pants ate your ice cream" scene, or something similar
honestly i would love a Merphy weekly series of just anime and manga related news!!!
11:00 Wow im impressed and excited that the OP live action managed to get David Dastmalchian onboard as Mr 3. Hes a perfect Alabasta Mr 3 although it will be interesting to see if he can provide the goofiness needed going forward post Alabasta
Hope you get that snake, Daniel!
Loving the crossover! ❤
I have Children of Time sitting next to me as I watch this. I'm about halfway through and really enjoying it.
I was jump scared by that ad read
the Manga (5) Minute(s) was perfect, great green screening, loved it. GGWP.
Heyyy, fun fact: I wrote "undulating' under a D&D community post on youtube for a channel that wasn't Merphy, but I thought it was. Guess who's gonna redeem himself now? Say it with me: undulating.
Omg I love the crossover
As soo as Merphy starts talking about One Piece she completely brightens up!
I've read the crooked man, now I'm super excited for a new Hellboy project! I wonder if they'll lean into the horror elements and make it more of a horror story?
Adrian Tchaikosky wrote my favorite Warhammer book "Day of Ascension".
Hellboy The Crooked Man excites me. The shift from supernatural hero comedy to horror is fitting.
Daniel Greene's looking pretty good these days
Thanks for the moist fantasy gossip Murph
Yes, this was the best fantasy news I have ever watched. I wonder why?
The Crooked Man, for us Hellboy fans, is THE classic Hellboy Horror story, basically a Faustian deal that young HB stumbles into. Story is amazing…what I’m seeing so far? Well? Better than the 2019 movie, right? Not a high bar admittedly. Still, I’ll go see it.
The Library is the new Redbox.
Her: "Ranma Half"
Me: (twitch) One-Half.....
ranma one over two.
petition for a merphy anime news segment when needed!
The new actors for OPLA S2 looks great, and other weeb news was dope been quite some time since we had any, and Rat Queen Merph did that thang
I hope Mike Mignola is ok with you giving credit for his series to who ever Mike Magnola is.
The crooked man is one of my favorite Hellboy stories. Richard Corben did the art on that one.
I just read Elder Race by Adrian Tchaikovsky and cannot recommend it more. I didn't know about snakes but I did know he likes to rebuild old typewriters.

I was today years old when I learned chicken soup for the soul owns red box
Very much interested in the Ranma 1/2 remake. Hopefully we’ll actually get some details on that one coming on the… 17th I think it was?
That Blackstone buyout ruined my hole week. Crap.
Who's that Daniel you keep referring to??
I hope Chopper will appear in season 2.
Merphy!
The goblin looks better with long hair and glasses.
Something to note: the strikes last year were from the WGA (writers) and SAG (actors). This tentative deal is for IATSE, which is the below the line workers AKA everyone else in the film industry.
So, if you rent from Red Box now, you might get to keep the movies soon?
The Worst part about the Harbor Hellboy was that it was SO CLOSE to being really good! another solid month in the writing room in prepro and they could have made it happen!
if you like this video I’ll read an extra 10 pages today (I have 400 pages left in WOR and am gonna binge)

Hearing Daniel mispronounce Appalachian more than once felt like hitting my big toe on a table leg. 😭 Still love him though!
Merphy!!!
New Hellboy movie looks fantastic! Basically exactly what I’ve wanted as a fan in the absence of Del Toro
Man this sucks, I tried getting the novellas and they are not available to order outaide the UK
We just need a BRPD TV series with Hellboy cameos. It would just work better and allow writers to be as loose or adherent as they want with the source material.
I need to know more about the consequences of that Blackrock purchase of Infocom.
Has he seen Anaconda? 😂
can we get time stamps....
I saw someone say that it was tubi hellboy and I agree
The one piece is so real (and back) let’s goooo

How were they planning to revive Redbox? Who rents physical media anymore?
This is the most undulating episode of Fantasy News that ever undulated.
FYI It is called "Ranma one half" not "Ranma half"
Daniel, se você veio para o brasil buscar uma cobra gigante você devia procurar em itu
Damn, I hope Daniel is ok, all these international spy missions for MI6 really worry me, have yourself a relax and a martini bud, shaken not stirred.
I need chapter times😭😭

Merphy sounds like she's filling in for Clifford Baynes, who is wandering along I-97 in a bathrobe with no memory of who he is.
No timestamps :'(
*Spoiler Alert! The cellphone edit at the end is Soo On Brand!
Movie recommendation, Kalki 2898.
Please do the welcome welcome slap next time murph.
