It turned out that Tennant had never signed the shoulder section before. I asked my friend if he did this time but he said that Tennant didn't sign the shoulder section in the end. Maybe one day...
Oh, don't worry. This doesn't contradict anything in Genesis of the Daleks. In that story, when we first see the Daleks, they're already fully designed. Also, going by how Davros is represented here, without his wheelchair (there is another reason for that other than being a flashback), it proves that he was probably already working on the Daleks way before Genesis began. Genesis just was the moment when he felt ready to show his creation to the world. Oh, and I LOVE that they got Julian Bleach back, whose been playing the part since Stolen Earth / Journey's End. Same actor just without the added prosthetics. Have loved Bleach from his very first appearance as Davros, so seeing him back again was a joy.
It does, however, contradict the Big Finish series I, Davros, which ends with the first Mk. III Dalek chillingly speaking its first words after Davros has been disfigured and wheelchair bound for a few years. A real shame, because that series is brilliant and shows how Davros has pretty much always been a monster since childhood.
No , Davros life support system is what gave him the idea to create the Dalek metal tank casing so definitely a retcon and Russell has already stated it’s a permanent change from now
Genesis of The Daleks was a Tom Baker 4th Doctor Serial, the first meeting of the Doctor with Davros (which is STILL canon as he actually doesn’t meet Davros here). The new logo is actually a shout out to Tom’s logo.
So to those outside of the UK, Children in Need is a charity telethon, and certain TV shows will create special shorts to play during it to help raise money, Doctor Who being one of them.
RTD said he chose to have Davros without his dalek lower half so there wasn't a villain with disability, which makes sense with the charity event this clip featured in
Of course I watched this live and was a surprise to see Davros not in the chair but walking. As Davros is my favourite all time favourite doctor who villain. But this was a sweet little mini episode and great to see Tennant again.
Russell explained that this is how Davros will be now. There’s been a long association in film and tv of evil people with scars and being disabled. So to change with the times, that iteration of the character is now dead. I was unsure about it to begin with but it’s fair, makes sense. People in wheelchairs or with facial deformities don’t want to be compared to one of the most evil characters in science fiction.
I've said this before, but there is something poetic about the idea that davros would get out of the chair somehow so he doesn't habe to deal with the dr messing with said chair.
God the doctor really needs to stop with the constant paradoxes !! 😂😂😂 This is why checking the scanner first is necessary before one steps out of the tardis.
I hope y’all will be reacting to the 60th anniversary specials coming up. After watching Good Omens a few months ago I went down the Dr Who rabbit hole because DAVID TENNANT, but I ended up loving every Doctor from Christopher Eccleston on. I didn’t watch the first 8 Doctors. I have grown to love this show and everything about it!
Genesis of the Daleks is one of Tom Bakers best and this fun skit is set prior to that . I think the parents and teachers of my generation would have been grateful , think of the kitchen and garden implements we kids would have been using to cause mayhem if the Daleks had those things instead of suckers .
This is a prequel to the 1975 Classic with the legend Tom Baker the actor playing Davros did play him in the last appearance but I do think it's before he got scared and in the chair it's caused a big fuss over here.
X is on fire about this and I was rather annoyed that they are going to basically rewrite history as far as Davros is concerned. But perhaps there is dialogue here that can cover it. I would prefer a full story explanation myself. If you're going to replace the injured Davros perpetuating himself in his creation, you really need to pin down the alternative. I think David is subtly different from the 10th Doctor here and that's actually quite welcome. He almost seems to be channeling Jodie a bit - which is maybe deliberate. Normally, of course, they want to get as far away from the previous incarnation as possible!
Really looking forward to seeing the new Dr (Ncuti Gatwa) who was brilliant in the Netflix show Sex Education and born in Rwanda making him the first ever Doctor Who who was not originally from the UK
If you haven't seen Comic Relief: Doctor Who - The Curse of Fatal Death it was from 1999 and the Doctor regenerates into a woman. So the 13th doctor wasn't the first woman doctor.
I loved this special minisode. I was wondering if you two would do a review of this and I’m glad you did. Keep up the great work Robert and Vanessa and I can’t wait for the specials and what you think of them coming up my friends!
Apparently this was a test run for having all Davros appearances looking like this, the old appearance is being retconned, even though you might think this appearance is specific to the point of time in the life of Davros. Russell T Davies says that having an evil wheelchair man doesn't work in the modern times
One of the good things about this idea is the fact that in his last chronological appearance, Davros stole 12's regeneration energy, so if he turns up in the present day look like that, they could use him healing himself through regeneration as an excuse.
OMG HI Late Party I’m A Huge Fan By The Way I love your movie reactions so much, I haven’t doctor who movies before, the actors did a good job, even the designs, I can’t not wait to see your videos. 💜💖
Not quite onboard with RTD ditching Davros' iconic life support machine because he doesn't want to associate wheelchair with evil. He says in the new version of Doctor Who Confidential that this is Davros' new look going forward.
It's a strange thing to do, however I think it's an interesting concept and will be nice to see early davros more. He has hit a nerve with alot of people though and I feel like they're reading into it abit too much, and seeing things that aren't there in the first place by doing this to davros. It works in favour of us seeing him more without the chair but the reasoning is just weird.
@@benjamindavis4974has he specifically said THAT as an explanation for future appearances or has he just generally left it at his overall ethos on the character from the Unleashed episode?
This really doesn't change anything, it's literally just the plunger and branding. Hell they were on the path to the name 'Dalek@ already, I'm sure they would have gotten there in the end.
Now we know why the Daleks have plunger arms....and im pretty sure Davros has no idea what a Plunger even is, maybe thats why the Daleks later switch to a claw again because they learn there arms are acually bathroom cleaning tools inventet by humans.
I'm just wondering how other fans feel about Russell's comments about this short. I thought it was a refreshing take on the classic villain and loved it. Then I saw the interview with Russell where he wanted Davros to be humanoid as he didn't want to depict wheelchair users as evil 🙄 I genuinely cannot tell if he's taking the piss or not? I know he's all about making the new series super inclusive but wtf?

I saw RTD explaination for the change BUT, if he was so concerned about an evil handicapped person being seen in a Children in Need special, he could've easily picked another villain / plot for this episode.
They changed Davros, too. And that's canon, now. RTD said the change was needed because disabilities like classic Davros' have been too often associated with villains in the past and he's making the change permanent. That ought to piss off the incels.
Hold on, you can't be ablest but you can use "incel" as a perjorative? Do you have compassion or is it just fashion? Don't you think if someone is involuntarily celibate they probably have social anxiety or are on the neuroatypical spectrum?
@@markpostgate2551 No because I find the link unfavourable to those who actually have social anxiety or are on the neuroatypical spectrum. I'm sure that some of the people that are affected by these difficulties exhibit that kind of behaviour but I don't see the behaviour as an automatic signal of those difficulties.

Yes, this scene was filmed specifically for Children In Need. I only just found out that the Dalek prop in this scene was built by a friend of mine!
That’s really cool.
They likely don’t want to use the original props because they might fall apart.
I thought it was a real prop that they fixed up, it has signatures inside and everything
Really? Cool.

Which Moffat carefully wrote around by not having Davros actually realize just who rescued him until years later.
The diamond logo started with the Third Doctor in season eleven.
Tom was the best in my opinion
@bennywark3103 I was bummed tom didn't get an episode with the memory tardis shorts they released
I have watched this skit about 20 times already 🤣 So much fun. Nyder calling Davros was a treat.
