I was on the end of a RIF lately, and it was out of nowhere. I had my review, and my work was great. I did not have a clue, and then right after I returned from my vacation, gone. They didn't even have the courtesy or respect to explain what was what. Just, ok, you're being laid off. Thanks, goodbye. After 19 years, all gone. It's looking rough right now and I'm so pissed. That was 19 years of various roles at an MSP, gone. Didn't get to say goodbye to my former team. Couldn't get access to stuff that belonged to me that was in my folders, nothing. As they were talking to me, they were removing my access to everything.
    ;(

Oh my gosh I'm so sorry to hear how that happened to you. That sounds really heartless and I can't imagine what that must have felt like. Especially if you've built some great, long relationships with your teammates. I hope you take some time to decompress and process everything, and I hope you find a place that has a bit more empathy ❤‍🩹

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but it's the reality: Anyone who is no longer working at a company with access to company data, code, folders, etc is a legit threat. They have a security obligation to cut off access immediately.
And please remember this: Anything you store, develop, code, etc on a work laptop is the company's property. It was never yours.
After 19 years is horrible. I'm sorry to hear that I can't even imagine. It may take some time for you to heal, but you'll come out stronger. You've learnt the hard way to never buy into a company's "we're a family" BS. The only thing that matters is the connections you make that'll carry you forward.

Great vid. You got a new subscriber. I'm a 20 QA vet and have had my fair share of layoffs too. I no longer treat companies as "family". It's always business. One tip I'll give you is never stop interviewing. When i recently got laid off, i was in the middle of several processes and had 2 offers.

@@Q.b.9378 wow 20 years that’s impressive. I’m sure I could learn so much from you. Those are great tips that I’ve definitely had to learn the hard way for sure and wish I could have learned a lot sooner. Appreciate you for watching 😊

Yea it's definitely getting harder to stay motivated sometimes but I do really love it but definitely think a lot of people are shifting out of it now because it's just too volatile

Would you do a gaming channel? Or would that turn something you love doing into a chore? Sending you positive vibes!

I thought about it but I don't want to start a new channel so I'm just going to post cozy games on this channel! I really missed playing video games and forgot how great they are for helping destress. Appreciate the encouragement.

Step 1 of getting a new job should be to save up an emergency fund. 3-6 months for high demand fields/you have a lot of work experience, 6-12 months for low demand fields/you don’t have work experience. My emergency fund is over 12 months and I have no fears about being potentially laid off.

@@sasukesuite1 solid advice and definitely agree. Never thought of having a bigger savings for low demand fields but makes total sense. Thats awesome you have such a big savings. Hope you never have to use it but you’re prepared if you do 🙌🏾

Hi there! I think if you plan to pivot into QA Engineering or doing more technical work like automation engineer or SDET then yes, I think QA Tester is worth getting started in to learn the fundamentals of quality assurance. But if you just want to be a tester, I don't think it's going to be worth it because I see a lot of this tasks being programmatic over the next few years. I started as a QA Tester 13 years ago though and still think it was the best decision and career path
