I have purchased the lens protective UV filter cover specified to be for the 5000 series only to find out it is too small and would not fit onto the lens.. never saw this info and you are the first one to mention it ;-) good job, a great review. Mate, I'm very pleased to hear that you liked my review. At this point in time the M20 from same manufacturer appears to be decent. Some of the issues that were present with slow motion has been fixed in that model. Only the thing is that 4K is again FAKE. Also, they are about to release two new models, you might want to hold off your purchasing decision till then. Best Reagrds.

Hi, you have the right idea. The 5000+ is better in terms of picture quality, but you will only know if put side by side. Get the 5000x, and the GYRO is handy for the activities that you mentioned.

Hi, with regards to colour and image quality there will be some compromise. I have used the 5000x under water and does ok. Also the M20 was good too. Personally I veer towards using M20 for a few different reasons. Please refer to the review for more detail. In a tight budget, the brand SJCAM delivers well. And also, important things is that I have many SJCAM cameras, all of them still alive. One got soaked in swimming pool water, the battery got fried, I thought the camera surly could not survive this. Once dried, it was good. So this I can say from personal experience. All the best.
Now I think these cameras are rated 30M water resistant. Not 30 meter deep. Seems like even resellers get this wrong. 30M means it is not really for diving/swimming certified. Please correct me if I'm wrong!

Gitup Git2 for sure. Don't even think about it. It captures much more detail at the same resolution (due to higher bitrate of video capture). Better image sensor IMX206 in Git2 vs IMX078 in SJ5000x meaning relatively better low light filming.
I always used Gyro ON and FOV OFF to resuce the fisheye look. Better turn OFF WDR to reduce blur on recording. It works best when OFF. version V1.4.6-S.
To keep it simple, I'll get M10+. The SJ5000x is better in some ways, but does not win me over. With regards to SJ5000+, I'm happy to own it. It does not have a gyro, so not so good for out door. But if on a tripod, the SJ5000+ is much better in terms of video quality. Cheers

Hi, M20 on paper looks very similar to the SJ5000x. Though has a slightly different Novatek chip. I don't think you will regret anything. The difference is not that great really. Besides that as far as build quality goes, we sort of know what to expect from this manufacturer. All the best.
I personally have not used the M20. I'm thinking that it would probably be at its best at 1080p @ 60fps like all others in its family. Also in the settings there should be an option for bitrate. I wonder if that is set to high.

Good question. For reference lets look at this link en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exmor Now, as far as I know the official specs for the sensor is 12.4MP. The pictures I took with it has resolution of 4032x3024 = 12192768. So effective pixel count achieved was 12.192 MP. With regards to the Firefly. I have not done research on what kind of company they are. As far as a few google search results I came across different info, some places it says 6S has 12MP sensor, in some other places they mention '16M' and they used the word adopting. They may be a good company, or they may be a cheap quick sell type camera maker. Careful is what I would say, a bad manufacturer will say any rubbish thing to make a sale.
Would you advise more the sj5000, sj5000+, sj5000x or this sj5000x elite? (mainly I'm in between sj5000+ and this one :) ) They tend to do that, also for the sj4000 they sold it as "60fps" when it was really a 30fps doubling the capture...ah.. :/
I have a favorable opinion about the 5000+, on grounds of its better image quality. It does not have GYRO, a major item for action cameras. So, you really have to think about it. Watch both the reviews to get better idea. Both cameras has imperfections as well as merits.
haha so you still sugest the 5000+ despite lacking in the image stabilization? most action cams don't have it though as the 170° angle is supposed to make up for it, right?
The 170° does little to stabilize. Shaky camera makes for a horrible video. But if the two camera is placed on camera, you will like the video from 5000+ always. It just does better quality video. But as I mentioned earlier, you have to consider the total package. Having a gyro can easily be a fair trade off for minor lower quality video.
Hi, good question actually. The manufacturer often releases new firmware to tweak performance, fix bugs, etc. But sometimes, it adds new functions that the device originally did not do. From as far as I used them, they are ok to capture conversations or engine noises, etc. With the case on its practically Zero. Nothing presentable though as can be expected from a built in mic.
As far as SJCAM is concerned, as I type this, there is no "TRUE" 4K capable item available from this manufacturer. Other manufacturer, GoPro Hero 4 Black appears to do UHD at 30 fps. (side note - 4K and UHD are not the same thing, but common convention allowed manufacturers to pass UHD as 4K)
I personally have not used it, so I could not tell how good it is. As far as specs go, it does not appear to have a Stabilization system, of any description. Investing in one is worth the while. If the price is right, it may be a decent purchase. Check out some independent reviews about it.
You can usually film for 50-60 min in 1080P 60fps on one charge. it depends what quality you shoot in, also what mode you are using. You can buy batteries pretty cheap, so its recomenden. You can also power/charge the camera with a powerbank as explained in my video. Hope this was helpfull. Cheers.

Thanks, recorded underwater videos doesnot run properly on my pc. They get sluggish and audio delay but when i download the video using sjcam app on my anroid device it runs perfect.
That is really odd. If you record videos above water but with the camera inside the shell? Does those video play in your PC. Also, there are options to change file type in the settings. That may work. I'll test it out and update. Cheers.
@Salesberg, I love your thorough reviews, but here's a tricky question: I want to buy an action camera to record my calligraphy (which means something like this: ruclips.net/video/hN11LzgyGsI/видео.html ) I need something that copes well in artificial lighting, does slo-mo (not a must, though), and (which would be great) not necessarily with such wide angle. I am considering SJ5000X and SJ5000+. Both have some advantages: 5000+ seems to be working A LOT better in low/artificial lighting conditions. 5000x elite on the other hand has this feature of different FOVs, which is very tempting. Which one would you recommend? Or maybe some other model or make? Thank you for your answer!
FIRST OF ALL, man you've got mad calligraphy skills. If you are going to be teaching calligraphy in your channel, I will surely be your subscriber. My advise for the kind of filming you are looking at, I advise against getting any action cam. The reason for saying so is that they are weak when it comes to filming something up close. I suggest that you look into other cameras within your budget. Something with built in zoom lens or macro capability is desirable. Also from the looks of things you are probably going to be doing overhead shots, so a mounting system that will allow you to film from above. Diffused light is also going to be useful. That may be a good idea to start your channel. Though my opinion is still to go with a stand alone camera + mic for the better result. Though you have to start somewhere, and the C920 just might do if the lighting is correct. All the best and I look forward to your videos.
перешарплено все.. и внастройках камеры нельзя полностью отключить шарпинг и шумода. на уровне прошивки видео портачится что после нормальных камер на картинку SJCAM смотреть больно. что 2к, что 4к- интерполяция -чистый маркетинг ни чего не имеющий общего с реальность, гиростаб тоже не аппаратный, а софтовый. Изменение угла обзора-обычный кроп с матрицы, при чем к 70 градусам особо ужасен. при плохом освещении идет падение частоты кадров до 30 к/сек. ощутимо греется. Сильный нагрев камеры сводит к нулю использование ее как видеорегистратора. Короче нужно ждать нормальную прошивку или брать только GоРro или Sony. конкурентом последним эта камера может стать если убрать все "улучшалки" что накладываются процессором. К плюсам можно отнести цвет, контраст, резкость картинки- не плохо, но все что перечислено выше убивает достоинства и уводит в минус отношение к этому продукту. Про звук молчу- это не главное требование к экшенкамере, да и при желании в домашних условиях можно припаять разъем 3.5 или нормальный микрофон даже из гарнитуры мобилки. RAW это вообще танцы с бубнами..

I almost always used with GYRO on. You loose FOV, but loss of quality if any was not noticeable.

I personally have not used it, so I could not tell how good it is. As far as specs go, it does not appear to have a Stabilization system, of any description. Investing in one is worth the while.
If the price is right, it may be a decent purchase. Check out some independent reviews about it.

I just want to know about a battery.. how long it stand?
You can usually film for 50-60 min in 1080P 60fps on one charge. it depends what quality you shoot in, also what mode you are using. You can buy batteries pretty cheap, so its recomenden. You can also power/charge the camera with a powerbank as explained in my video.

Thanks, recorded underwater videos doesnot run properly on my pc. They get sluggish and audio delay but when i download the video using sjcam app on my anroid device it runs perfect.
That is really odd. If you record videos above water but with the camera inside the shell? Does those video play in your PC. Also, there are options to change file type in the settings. That may work. I'll test it out and update. Cheers.
@Salesberg, I love your thorough reviews, but here's a tricky question:
I want to buy an action camera to record my calligraphy (which means something like this: ruclips.net/video/hN11LzgyGsI/видео.html )
I need something that copes well in artificial lighting, does slo-mo (not a must, though), and (which would be great) not necessarily with such wide angle.
I am considering SJ5000X and SJ5000+. Both have some advantages:
5000+ seems to be working A LOT better in low/artificial lighting conditions.
5000x elite on the other hand has this feature of different FOVs, which is very tempting.
Which one would you recommend? Or maybe some other model or make?

FIRST OF ALL, man you've got mad calligraphy skills. If you are going to be teaching calligraphy in your channel, I will surely be your subscriber.
My advise for the kind of filming you are looking at, I advise against getting any action cam. The reason for saying so is that they are weak when it comes to filming something up close. I suggest that you look into other cameras within your budget. Something with built in zoom lens or macro capability is desirable. Also from the looks of things you are probably going to be doing overhead shots, so a mounting system that will allow you to film from above. Diffused light is also going to be useful. That may be a good idea to start your channel. Though my opinion is still to go with a stand alone camera + mic for the better result. Though you have to start somewhere, and the C920 just might do if the lighting is correct. All the best and I look forward to your videos.

перешарплено все.. и внастройках камеры нельзя полностью отключить шарпинг и шумода. на уровне прошивки видео портачится что после нормальных камер на картинку SJCAM смотреть больно. что 2к, что 4к- интерполяция -чистый маркетинг ни чего не имеющий общего с реальность, гиростаб тоже не аппаратный, а софтовый. Изменение угла обзора-обычный кроп с матрицы, при чем к 70 градусам особо ужасен. при плохом освещении идет падение частоты кадров до 30 к/сек. ощутимо греется. Сильный нагрев камеры сводит к нулю использование ее как видеорегистратора. Короче нужно ждать нормальную прошивку или брать только GоРro или Sony. конкурентом последним эта камера может стать если убрать все "улучшалки" что накладываются процессором. К плюсам можно отнести цвет, контраст, резкость картинки- не плохо, но все что перечислено выше убивает достоинства и уводит в минус отношение к этому продукту. Про звук молчу- это не главное требование к экшенкамере, да и при желании в домашних условиях можно припаять разъем 3.5 или нормальный микрофон даже из гарнитуры мобилки. RAW это вообще танцы с бубнами..
