    Justice for druids! The wildshapes are really valuable in the early game when you don’t have that many spell slots or special gear. At the higher levels, druids get some of the best spells in the game, while being way harder to kill than other casters. Moon druid at level ten can wildshape into a fire myrmidon, which can do six attacks a turn.

    • @delnite5825
      @delnite5825 6 месяцев назад +8

      yeah its like a bit of a jack of all trades so it not being the best at any one thing is kinda the whole point not a negative, however imo its still best used for multiclassing tho, for example the infamous gloomstalker-assassin build is one of if not the single best builds in all of DnD for damage alone letting you end full encounters in one turn before your other party members even get a chance to act (also probably the most cartoonishly edgy build you could do for rp purposes, which a lot of people love).
      the ranger doesnt need to be the best at anything, yet combining its perks with some other classes like fighters, rogues, barbarians and druids can definitely let you make them the best at something very specific if you know what youre doing.

      Literally stopped watching after the OP cast shade at rangers. You can build the class around gear and become God tier as early as Act II with items like Armor of Agility, ring of protection, and the dexterity gloves. Boom. Instant dex based death machine which you can use with certain long swords or just adamantine scimitars and a good bow. 23AC and 20 dex while being able to dual wield and throw some serious ranged damage is nothing to scoff at. Don't sleep on hunters mark or any of the ranger skills (depending on your play style). I'm guessing the person who made the video just never really explored the class. They can become even deadlier when you multiclass.

      BG3 is my first CRPG (I've also played DnD a couple of times if that counts). On my first playthrough I played a Fiend Warlock but on my other two ongoing playthroughs I'm playing a BM Ranger/Rogue and a CotM Druid respectively, both of which are usually rated as lesser classes. Even on Tactician both are pretty viable so far. Sure, you can argue that Paladins and Fighters are more optimised on paper because at later levels they get like a million attacks/round, but I never much cared for the meta, especially in games without PvP.

      Many of the classes don't fully "come online" until mid or some even late game. So staying in Act 1 testing them all might not give you the full picture of what the class is capable of. You've probably already completed your playthrough, but for anyone else in this position I'd recommend to just continue playing, and you can always change class with Withers at any point in the game if you're not happy with your current choice. I went with Paladin on my first playthrough and he really didn't feel that great in the first Act. By act 2 he really started to become powerful, and in Act 3 an absolute god. Didn't even bother multiclassing on my first playthrough, put all 12 levels into paladin cause didn't want to overcomplicate things, since I wasn't really familiar with D&D rules/mechanics and it was a steep learning curve as it is.

    Personally, in my second playthrough I am running a BM Ranger/Rogue and it feels pretty strong, especially after getting the extra attack at lv5 and the sneak attack when you multiclass into Rogue. Sure, there are definitely more optimised builds but I was never into meta builds and more into "if it's fun and not utter trash" I will prefer it. I am currently lv 7 (5 Ranger/2 Rogue) and I feel like I have so many options in combat. I'm playing in Tactician and so far I'm in Act II and none of the fights which originally gave me trouble on my first playthrough with a Fiend Warlock (Spider boss, Gith patrol, Nere) felt challenging with my current build.
    Ofc I know the fights and the game tactics much better the second time around, but still the Ranger/Rogue combo feels pretty OP and it does pretty decent melee dmg as well in fights where you can't get range.

      Sounds interesting. I imagine you make this a CC machine with the items that increase your spell DC when you hit with weapon attacks? Wondering if could be worth dropping 1 level of wizard to get 1 level of Sorcerer for Armor of Agathys. You'd still get all the high level spells as all 3 classes are full casters, but Sorc would also offer con save. Armor of Agathys cast at highest spell slot will then mean you can cause damage to enemies just by making them opportunity attack on you when you move away. This way you can use spells or attack on your turn and then cause even more damage to enemy melee just through movement. Using blade ward 1st turn and every other turn reduces physical damage by half or you could find stoneskin scroll, learn that and use that to reduce damage. I will say (and you brought it up a bit) that certain classes wind up being way better as a multiclass component. Like Gloomstalker Ranger becomes a dynamite 5 level insert into a Rogue-style build. On its own it's... fine. But as a multiclass it becomes waaaay better.
    Monk is weird because half of its power comes from some really busted items, moreso than any other class other than maybe Necromancer style builds. I'd agree it's B-tier by default, but at least A-tier or arguably S tier with items. I will totally agree that it's boring as heck to play tho.
    Cleric felt like it was borderline necessary, and gets ultra busted with Those Gloves That Do That Thing, but it also felt kind of hollow past the early game. Maybe I just need to try out other versions of the Cleric, but outside of spinny doom aura, it felt like Cleric didn't really have much that was all that useful in combat. Your highest level slot ends up getting used for one spell that's WAY better than any other option, and it's just a passive buff you cast every rest. Most of the time it felt like all a Cleric had to do in fights was AOE stoneskin / bless the party for (almost) free as a bonus action, and then... cantrip? Guiding Bolt? Run around the battlefield playing tag with your aoe necrotic / radiant field? Really powerful, but also just kind of... boring. Very passive combat contribution, no matter how powerful that contribution is.
    Again maybe Life domain is just like that and I should try out War or Light or something instead.
    Paladin surprised me. I love the class, but it felt pretty weak starting out. But then towards the middle and later part of the game, it has plenty of spell slots to just drop atomic bombs on enemies. It rapidly became one of my favorite classes (respec'd Shadowheart to be one) to have around. Lay on Hands was a far better emergency heal than anything a Cleric could do. And even when Lae'zel got her third attack per round, my paladin Shadowheart was far more flexible and - though limited by spell slots - had plenty of smiting to go around. But it just took a while before it felt really powerful. Totally amazing class tho. Even has quite a few good spells outside of smiting. Only bummer is that some smites require concentration, which breaks any haste cast by an item they're wearing.

      I haven't played cleric as my main class, but on all 3 of my playthroughs I had Shadowheart as basically a permanent party member specced into Light domain. She basically still gets most of the Life domain spells (they're just not "always prepared", so you can cherry pick the ones you like to heal and buff the party), and especially with the addition of Fairie Fire and Warding Flare from the Light domain, she still provides great support. But most importantly she gets a lot of Fire and Radiant damage spells that turn her into a pretty nasty caster. Spells like Scorching Ray, Fireball, Firewall, Radiance of dawn, Flamestrike. Life cleric seems to be pure support, with a very passive playstyle.

His extra attack coupled with the third attack on the opening round of combat pretty much guaranteed that he could nuke any enemy of choice out of the fight on the first turn - couple that with his insanely high initiative and he made combat overall MUCH easier.

But somewhere along the way I just started slapping people silly lmao. Being able to slap someone and make them fall over or fly off a ledge, then know I have multiple actions left to slap around their friends is just *chef’s kiss*. I find it weird that many class rankings put the Druid near the bottom. It's probably my favorite class, they are very unique with their wild shape and nature themed spells. On the other side, Rogue and Fighter are usually closer to the middle of the rankings, even tho I find them to be the most boring classes in the game, as you have very few things you can do in your turn. Maybe it's because most rankings take into account how powerful the classes can be, and not how fun or complex they are.

    • @SN27671
      @SN27671 6 месяцев назад

      Well you can’t really rank them by how „fun“ they are because then you’re just going by personal preference. You think rouge is boring I love going full skyrim stealth archer every fight.
      If you want a somewhat objective list you have to take their overall strength into account.

    • @maxshadow3405
      @maxshadow3405 6 месяцев назад +2

      @@SN27671 Thats pretty much the same as listing the "best classes". It's just personal opinion. Also, I find rogues boring (and martial classes in general) because of the lack of options. While magic classes have tons of spells to choose from during their turn, martial classes mostly do the same every time. Arrows, grenades and scrolls spice things up a little bit, but they can't be crafted, and any class can use them, so they don't help make martial classes more unique or interesting. And besides, using the main attack or action of your martial class is usually more powerful, so you still end up doing the same most of the time.

    Fun one! Always a good discussion.

    • @Avoncarstien
      @Avoncarstien 7 месяцев назад +3

      Everything's so conditional to playstyle, any tier list ends up being pretty subjective. Assassin Rogue is *incredible* if you abuse party separation + stealth + turn based mode out of combat; but if you play more traditionally it struggles a *lot* because a bunch of fights start out of convos so you can't hide traditionally.
      Plus there are items that can make builds go from seemingly meh to downright busted...
      Having watched about a dozen of these class tier list videos, I think they only thing I've seen consistently is that Rangers and Druids are a bit overshadowed in their roles, and that everyone thinks Warlocks are incredibly fun. Past that so many of the differences are down to how you play and what sort of scales you're measuring on, which is something you have to interpret as you watch, how applicable it's going to be to your style, so ultimately take in a bunch of info and then go with your gut. The other consensus that everyone seems to share in is that *every* class is viable even through tactician difficulty, so ultimately you're more likely to find success with something that gels with how you play than trying to force something high tier that's counterintuitive to you.

    I find both Ranger and Rogue both boring and rather weak as pure builds and on the bottom of my list, but as soon as you multiclass those two together as Gloomstalker/Assassin, and specially if you add a few levels of Fighter into it, it suddenly gets VERY fun to play and you are VERY strong as well.
    Druid can be rather boring and rather weak at lower levels, but as you get higher up in levels, both Moon Druid and Spore Druid can become rather fun and strong to play.
    Barbarian can be great fun if you make a Tavern Brawler build with the Berserker subclass.
    I still have not managed to find a fun build with Monk, but I am sure there might be one, also for me.
    I also have problems with finding a Bard build I find fun to play.
    The only Paladin subclass I find fun and really good, is by being an Oathbreaker.
    I know that many prefer the Paladin and think it is very strong and fun to play as a pure build, but I don't.
    Both Wizard and Warlock are rather fun and strong, but not in my top 3.
    For pure class builds, do I find Cleric(Light Cleric when pure build), Sorcerer and Fighter to be the most fun to play.
    I also tend to use some levels of one or more of these 3 into my multiclass builds as well.

    For the majority of the list you are very much correct, but there are lots of moments where you can tell you haven’t played with some of the classes enough. The huge red flag is monk, as statistically it is absurd if you build it right. Near infinite movement, high AC, inhuman damage output, and its main downside is AoE which is mitigated as you should have a party member who has good AoE (or just take 3 elements although they aren’t as good as Open Hand).

Bard on the other hand is extremely strong. Not only cuz of the unique buffs, and flexibility. School of swords is the strongest single target damage dealer, and you can do that while also having wizard/sorc aoe spells, and you can heal. And a high level lore is a buffing machine.

Pretty much all classes has 2 stats that are the clear stats to put points into, however the Paladin has 3 and maybe even 4 if your really picky. Charisma should be your main stat ofc but becouse u use melee weapons u also want a decently high Strenght aswell as Inteligence for your spell casting and higher HP then your average caracter so Constitution is also important. The Paladin just has to many important stats so how do u balance that out?

    • @common_undead
      @common_undead 6 месяцев назад +2

      Paladin doesn't need intelligence at all. Paladin like Bards, Warlocks and Sorcerers use charisma for their spellcasting. And for a typical paladin, you aren't usually casting spells at all outside of bless, since you're usually saving your spellslots for divine smite. In that sense, you don't need a lot of charisma, and instead can focus on either strength or dexterity for the melee weapons (dexterity if you're okay using finesse weapons and want high initiative) and cons for the health.
      The class that requires the most attributes is the monk. Since monks can't wear armor, they need high dex and wis for their AC. They need wisdom for the save dc on their stunning strikes and other abilities. They need con since they have a lower hp pool than fighters/rangers/paladins and are also a melee class. And if they want to benefit from tavern brawler, they need very high strength.

    For example - I don't even know why, I don't like paladins in this game - so it being strongest class means absolutely nothing to me. On 2nd run, I was thinking of respecing Lae'zel to paladin (because she's a must in here in evil-ish run anyway) - but i just left her as fighter because that's just felt more nuke overall. I'm also taking Minthara and I'm gonna respec her into Sorc most likely out of her native paladin. And yes, I'm running Astarion and Ranger - because I was rogue myself on my first run. So yeah, playe whatever seems fun to you. Maybe only highest difficulty is more meta forcing, but I thing game like this is best to be played on balanced where everything is really viable with exception of very shitty compositions like Rogue + ranger + druid + monk or smth like that with zero support, tank, and utility and offensive spells.
    Imho this is far more about having balanced party. My preferred composition is - offensive caster, melee, some support - utility capable class and free slot to your liking. That's because there are encounters where melee feels so crap (don't want to spoil by naming some bosses) and there are scenarios were casters don't fair all that well and some support / utility class is always nice to deal with some crap.

    I made a Cleric/Pally Main spected cleric to lvl 2 to get Selune deity sub-class then using Pally to lvl 10 as main damage/heals, needless to say, you get a lot of Shadowheart confrontations when choosing Selune as your deity, I'm towards the end of chapter 2 and Shadowheart is still only neutral to me, any other class (without Selune) you could get a romance scene with her by the end of chapter 1, I still haven't rescued a certain someone yet, so I'm wondering how this is going to playout, I'm hoping for a good outcome, but I'm no crossing my fingers, lol I keep getting a lot of disapprovals from Shadowheart, and I always chose my Selune/Pally, Selune/Cleric options, it really pisses her off most of the time, I hope I wont have to fight her in a particular scene.💔💔 I'm trying to be vague on purpose.

    What I’ve noticed is classes are subjective to who is in your party and how many other players there are

    paladin is so good, it's insane how much easier the game became after recruiting minthara in act 2 and watching her somehow excel at literally everything I make her do

    I dont get why people keep misidentifying the vengeance oath paladin as the “evil” build. Sure it’s a little more gray than the other two, but it still says in it’s tenets that you use your wisdom to seek the higher good, and smite the greater evil

    I fully disagree with his take on the Ranger. I"m in a fairly new play through as I'm about 90% done with ACT 1. I've got a female Drow Ranger that I've pretty much soloed through the whole of act 1. The only time I had party members was on the Nautaloid ship. I've got the Creche, under dark, Waukeens rest, and Auntie Ethel is all I got left to do in act one, and I'm just now at camp raising my Ranger. Yes I kept here at 1st level the whole time the only thing that I changed out was some of her weapons and gear. And she's dominated the game. So don't sell the Ranger short. I'm undecided if I should take Lae'zel with me to the Creche.

    Ive told people for years that rangers are awesome in campaigns where multiclassing isnt allowed, but definitely suck (comparatively) when you can multiclass and you're gonna go past lvl 5.
    I think those conditionals apply to BG3 therefore rangers suck in BG3
