So, to not say that is to give in to nihilism. On the other hand, after reading Graeber and Wengrow's book The Dawn of Everything--especially that little bit about the ancient Mexican city of Teotihuacan that tore down its temples and built luxury apartments for all of its citizens--I realized how imaginative homo sapiens are; we may be trapped in a dead end narrative at the moment but if history offers us any hope it is that we won't be stuck forever, so dream big even if it comes to nothing. "We're all Thatcher's children now". After 50 years, we are now onto our third generation, raised explicitly in that political environment. Everybody is now well informed that the easiest way to climb the ladder is to step on others, then burn the ladders. People who represent "woke culture" are as right wing as they come, they just know that the right wing hates them, so they consider voting left, but mostly they vote green. But the left has always been about collectivism, and minorities are more than welcome to join the collective. But when you put minorities ahead of the collective, you simply give the right ammunition.

What do you have to lose (other than your useless cynicism)?

The comments on here have really let themselves go.
Really enjoyed this interview. Not really like what I expect from Stewart as there wasn't a single marine predator falling from the sky, but nonetheless it was a good watch.
This was an interesting interview, and I'm looking forward to watching the documentary. This comments section, as is the case under any Stewart Lee video, is an embarrassment. I have no idea what people get out of this lame repetition.
@Danny Dreadnought fuck, that cracked me right up!
@Danny Dreadnought 🤣🤣🤣😂
Stewart Lee has an uncanny ability to sound like he is rambling incoherently while actually choosing his words very precisely.
Letting go has let itself go.
Noam Chomsky has really let himself go.
Great conversation.
How embarrassing for us all that Brexit was a class-defined victory for the working class.
🤪
what?
Tell me which members of the ERG are working class.
You've been conned and I would say "haha", except the consequences also affect me.
What a load of old bollocks.
Tell that to all those working class fishermen.
Great point about the BBC from Lee. It used to be incredibly diverse and fabulous for the arts. Arena, Late Night Review, on every week night btw, Omnibus, play for Today and so on. I've lost all interest in it, and yet still love it like an old friend I used to love drinking with because the conversation was interesting, and fun.
I just want him to be my mate
I said “He’s been in groups for (gravelly voice) 45 years.”
He said “45 years?”
I said (gravelly voice) “45 years, roughly speaking.”
That Scottish border terrier has let itself go
The Dulux Sheepdog has let itself go.
Saw SL last night in Darlington
Brilliant
I thank you

Has he intentionally dyed his tache? Hitler-Claus has let himself go.
He tried to pull a Richard Herring, but didn't want to go all in.

It is weird seeing Stewart Lee wearing Richard Herring's Hitler moustache. He's so great in casual interviews like this.
The ewoks were the best example of anthropomorphic socialism. I can see what he's done here. I like it.
My mate Paul has really got his act together
Oh dear Gary Bushell has let himself go.
What he says about the West Midlands, from 13:00 to about 15:00 is good.
Even Steward's moustache is developing a satirical colour scheme.
Attempts to write something funny about this have Brecht themselves go....
You’ll only alienate yourself with comments like that.
Yeah, like the inflatable comedian....I’ve let Stewart down, I’ve let you down...and I’ve let myself down.
Made me think of the film 'Anvil', which was on a similar subject and a film I absolutely loved.
Without giving spoilers away do they all end up ok at the end of that? I had to stop watching about half way through as it made me too sad.
🗣 *Tremendous!* 💯👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Wonderful interview, thank you.
Whoever the geezer is doing the interview. How leftist can I get. Please tell me you are from Brighton or Bristol.
Richard Griffiths has let himself go
Having seen Stewart Lee in his last stage appearance in Canterbury it will be good to see him live again rather than through the kaleidoscope of RUclips clutter.
Under-rated comment!! :-)
I warn you; he's let himself go a bit.
Ernest Hemingway's let himself go
It’s actually when a comedian never challenges the dominant cultural status quo. Never takes risks. Stewart Lee takes a pop at “the Tories” and assorted white men. His comedy is good but increasingly safe in its subject matter, if not its delivery.
Woke comedy def exists just look at the comedians in America that pile on other comedians trying to get them cancelled for jokes and things they said years ago.
@@williamdew7143 listen to comedy podcasts near every single one I regularly listen to brings it up and when they have guest comedians on they bring it up sometimes also.
@@andegallagher6645 You’re being gaslit. Of course it’s a thing. You either know it or pretend that you don’t.
@@williamdew7143 Explain to me how the comedy of Rosie Jones has made it to the mainstream? Your use of 'right wing scare tactic' makes you sound unhinged
@@williamdew7143 😂. Are you being serious? Firstly, she didnt 'make it', that would imply that she honed her craft through years of touring working mens clubs and the like, like actual comedians do. We both know this is not the case. I dont want to be unkind, but she cant string a coherent sentence together 😕. Stand up comedians are, by definition, supposed to be good talkers. She does not have the requried tools for the job. Her attemps at comedy are absolutley excruciating, and to suggest otherwise is an outrageous lie
@@williamdew7143 Yes I am 👊🐬. What has this got to do with racism? I am talking about someone who is woefully incompetent at the task they are trying to perform. I dont need to google cerebal palsy, i know what it is. Maybe you should google stand up comedy..
He's looking well
This is most excellent. There’s a reason we’re not taught politics in school, the Tories wouldn’t be able to control the masses and get away with their corrupt ways.
You should try to seperate your ideology from life. I (for example) went to an All Boy's Catholic Grammar school and we were taught politics. Myself and three other lads from those classes have gone on to work for Labour party, or Labour administrations
Any dogmatic-obsessive is wrong. I do not agree with much of Tory policy and ideology but I don't spew left wing vitriol either.
If corruption is so "Tory" why is every senior politician in Liverpool arrested for corruption?
@@liamr194 what and where were you taught, from what age and how long ago?
What is your job in the Labour Party?
Your last point doesn’t make sense.
@@realitychecks2920 firstly, that information is none of your business and you hold no authority to compel me to share anything. It doesn't affect what I said
Secondly, it does. Liverpool has been a firmly Labour city without a Conservative Counsellor or MP for generations. It has, by contrast, the highest proportion on politicians charged with corruption offences. As we speak the Mayor and his senior advisors are subject to investigation for corruption in property and development contracts. This is the fifth City adminstration in Liverpool investigated for corruption. Hatton, revered Labour gangster and "Big Joe" are renowned for brown envelope jobs on the scene in the city. Festival Park being the most obvious example of Labour corruption. Second only to The Docklands. Steve is doing a great job to clean up the corrupt "Labour" members within the city and the legacy of 80's corruption.
Corruption is a political and societal issue, not an ideological one.
@@liamr194 other than asking what your job is ( and you wouldn’t need to be specific) why can’t you answer some simple questions on the teaching of a subject?
Politics is widely taught in schools across Britain. If you took 30 seconds to Google the major exam boards, AQA and Edexcel you can see for yourself.
Politics is also widely touched on at GCSE. I'm a history teacher and regularly teach aspects of Politics when teaching about the Cold War and Weimar/Nazi Germany.
Basically, you're talking nonsense.
