I just think of all the kids who ran up and down the hallways and played with all those toys just a few years ago.
mhm!
+Exploring With Josh Its kind of sad to see all the abandoned buildings and happy at the same time
That was the image in my mind the whole time
+Exploring With Josh did you notice the face at 5:07 right side
i think it is himself
2:07 Seeing that lone teddy bear sitting on the desk, knowing it will never be snuggled, or drooled on, or held upside-down by the foot, or at all loved by a child again... What a truly sad scene.
SaltyCashewKitten I think you just found Ted ..From the movie Ted, lol
SaltyCashewKitten it makes me cry🤧 jus think about all the little kids the cuddled with the fluffy teddy bears😊 with big smiles on there faces😢😌
SaltyCashewKitten yea im crying plz make me feel ok
SaltyCashewKitten it was hard seeing that after watching toy story as a kid so much
Yeah, that teddy bear just wanted to be snuggled forever until he was eventually not good. He just wanted snuggles, and kisses, and fun.
I honestly think its completely sad looking at the children's asylum. During that tine period, small things such as ADHD or autism would land those poor children into asylums. Its to sad
Auoura Paints I've got autism and lots of friends with it and ADHD to think that me and my friends could have gone there is scary...
I have adhd
Auoura Paints
yeah 😢
I have ADHD and just thinking of going to an asylum makes me shudder.
I have ADHD and that scares me that I would be there..... 😣
What's sad is that they genuinely seemed to love the kids. Wonder what happened
SuperKailey90 What a useful answer.
Auoura Paints I heard there was a fire nearby and this caused them to evacuate
Auoura Paints I bet they just lost a lot of money and had to shut down. But I agree, they really seemed to want to help the children admitted there.
I believe that the hospital was severely overcrowded
John Cena if they lost money there wouldn’t have just left the toys, 2 wheelchairs, and a BIKE like if u agree
Imagine like all the children who were there back then were just playing toys, laughing with their friends. It's so sad to think about it.
Ember Hillside not everyone in an asylum/mental hospital is insane ive been in one and im not insane alot of people in them or were in them in the past were suicidal or depressed or have been abused ect hardly anyone in a hospital is insane
Ember Hillside or even back in the old days people would be admitted into hospital for being gay
true
Shoyou Ann why is it sad?
Shoyou Ann Not that sad. Theres always going to be people with mental issues. And everyone dies one day. I'm 99% sure you didn't know any of those kids there, so you shouldn't feel attached... It's always going to be this way. Theres always going to be building that people used to occupy all of the time.
0:55 Guys get out of there. He marked this place. This is his swamp now. You have no clue of the shrekoning that is about to begin
Shrek is love. Shrek is life.
Sarah Barth there's a poster of Shrek dunking on the wall behind them
Captain Kirk Gaming h-he's the one who did it....
???
Captain Kirk Gaming lol
i know im late to this video but i love how respectful you are to all of these places you go to, most people would grab stuff but you just leave stuff where you found them, for all of the places you go to that is truly amazing to see someone so freaking respectful.
I agree with you.
Agreed! He doesn’t move things around too much or take things.
Nah I’m the one that’s late
@@mountainman6299 I’m the one that is late.
most the stuff in largely abandoned buildings are covered asbestos so thats one reason
There is an abandoned school next to my house and the classrooms are still intact I mean the desks paper butterfly's on the windows and its creepy been abandoned for like 30 years
kit kat I have an abandoned hospital in my town... Well it's not fully abandoned... There is a part that is but that's cause it's haunted and many people died in that part of the hospital... They want to tear it down but it's been there for so long and it's also attached to the food hospital and they don't want to loose the hospital....
Bruh 30 years isn’t that long my house is 80 years old
buy it
Where is that?
me probably lier
why are kids that young in an asylum? Just curious. I'm just unsure of what a kid could do to be admitted there.
faith200123 usually parents would send their children with mental retardation to a place like this all the way until the 1970s. Hardly if ever visited so neighbors wouldn't know. Check out Heraldo Rivera's investigative documentary about the Willowbrook School. You can find it on RUclips. He won a Peabody award after releasing the tape to the media. It shows you what these places were really like. Very disgusting and depressing...
thank you that helped a lot cx
faith200123 It's for children with serve metal illness. Unlike popular beliefs there haven't been a creditable amount of cases involving abuse in these children's asylums unless you were talking about way long ago.
faith200123 omg seirously ive been saying that alk along
if you were deaf you could also be placed in an asylum
Hold

Did I just see Shrek doing a slam dunk?
A Shrek dunk?
A slam Shrek?
Yep lol
Yes I was going to say that xd
They're in the depths of his swamp

Grapecakes_ Flipnote ikr I was like is that Shrek with a basketball
it’s the grinch
It looks more like a normal school than a mental asylum wth?
exactly don't do school kids
@@bay9560 want us to become retarded 90 year old man??
Child with autism , downs physical disability was sent to places like this my nan fought to keep my uncle with downs from going into a place like this 55 years . Thanks to my nans fight he’s managed to live independently for r the past 30 years .
Who ever responds To my comments is gay, you want all the females to become a man?
@@caca-sk8rd i am gay, but i don't want all the females to become men, i love female and males the same, but more attraction to men.
It's so crazy how it looks like one day the people there just got up and left without taking anything it's crazy
iBallisticsplatt Theres an abandoned School near me that me and my friends explored and it was just like that. stuff left everywhere. records, pencils, books and shelves
clorox bleach I think I see you every where I swear...
that's what I was thinking lol...
clorox bleach I see u comment on a lot of stuff
I assume because of the masks theyre wearing and the time it was built it was something to do with asbestos
Honestly if I got the chance to explore here I'd go through the files and cases if the kids tht went here and I'd try to find out stories of the kids {is tht weird}
Lily Cortès no I would do the same things but most of these are cases of depression and disabilities not usually psycho killer kids
Lily Cortès i actually had to go through files sorting papers into the files of fellow students like me because it turned out i had a big hole in my bone
Hugh Wang ewwww
Stop hating peeps, I would do the same.
Lily Cortès I'd probably do the same that's really cool to look at and learn
6:09 always that one wheelchair 😂
ForeverRio+ There's always at least one wheelchair in every video he makes
ForeverRio
I think that the wheel chair is there because they probably took people to electric therapy or something
@@rhiannoncampbell1541 scary
Right when i saw the wheel chair i saw this comment..... 😨😳
SHREK: better slam Dunkin to keep funkin
Child: what?
SHREK: GET OUT OF MY ASYLUM
And that folks is why it is abandoned
Here's Negan omg lol
Lol XD !!!
yep
I swear every time they go in assylum or HOSTPITAL there is always a chair in a random place
Hospital **
so true
i think thats every building, i went into an abandoned hospital once and there was a random leather seat in one room and a metal one in another.
+alley kraus smart ass lol lmao
+kayseyphelan vlogs/games lol
Am I the only one who thinks the kid's pictures are the most jarring part of this? Those were the kids that were actually THERE, some of them even tagged with names. Just looking at them and knowing they were the ones who had to stay there is...saddening, for lack of better word.
Idk if anyone saw but pause at 2:38 and it's the names and pictures of all the kids in the pre k ward
These videos make me feel nostalgic, in a way. Kids used to play there. And go to school there. I feel bad for everything that will get destroyed if it gets demolished. I hope this building lives on... :( :C
GoldenPickAxe
GoldenPickAxe it's not a school lol
Red Miu the law requires that all childrens psychiatric facilities provide an education to the residents. Classrooms would have been present.
Is a kids asylum that's where crazy kids used to be...
From now on when you explore a place, talk about its history, what happened there and why it was abandoned.
Mariya Myno He has mentioned in previous videos that he says everything he knows about the buildings. Not every place publicly releases why they shut down.
Mariya Myno he usually does when there's information on them.
The dark lord of MCR they shut down probably from lead or diasese that's why they are wearing masks
He doesn't reveal where incase people vandalize it but most places shut down due to not making money or lost funding or even moved somewhere.
They are wearing masks because of the mold and other natural things happening there
if you read the poster it says 2002 so the kids that where 4 and 5 would be 18 and 19 today
also this makes me feel sad for some reason
Kileejo Muncy yeah
Kileejo Muncy not today some would be grown because that place oped ed in the 1920's so not a the kids since it's abandoned
when did this place close
Kathryn Hester 2005
Just imagine. Kids would be laughing, singing, playing, being happy. They don't know that they have problems that they can't control. And the only reason why they don't notice is because they are having so much fun. It's sad to think about this
It's very sad 😔 it makes you a bit emotional too just thinking about it
Yoo the hallways with the paint chipping off though 😍
That's called poison paint. It contains led.
if it is too old.. why is there a shrek poster?
It opened in 1920s, so it probably closed just a few years ago!
oh ok.. nice!
but it is strange.. that is the only 'actual' poster.. paint is too rusty to be actual..
At 2:38, the poster with the children's pictures said Week of the Child April 2002
Emmanuel Cuervo Motovlog en Español Hhaha I wasn't sure if I saw that right but Idk lol
My sister stayed in this asylum for 3 months. I showed her this video and she was so shocked because of how it looks now. She's 19 now! So crazy!
Really? But why would they send her in an asylum?
oh I see, thaanks
Olivia Xx not to be rude but why
Where is it?
Olivia Xx thats cool
0:55
the shrek poster is the spookiest thing in the whole asylum
What happend to that place? I mean.. What is the stroy behind Asylum Place?? Can anyone please give me some information about that. 🙏🙏 thank you so much. 🙏🙏
Ayuwdisney Channel Michael Myers ran it out of business after he escaped
I think it was for the mentalilly sick kids
Andrea Canseco well duh
Grace Robin pepprminttea
The kids became possessed and killed everyone
Nah, but I really did have a nightmare about that once. I was chasing my little sister(I don't have a little sister) down the hallway inside of what I thought was an abandoned asylum and she collapsed. 12 kids started crawling towards her from behind the corner of the hallway with large black eyes. Her eyes started to look like theirs, and they were all staring at me. I tried to be courageous and walk towards her, but then I was woken up because I was making pained noises while I was sleeping.
The kids dressed as though they were from the 1950s, and the adult's faces were deformed and wicked.
This make me a bit sad
Sofi De Souza yeah it does
I know what you mean.
Sofi De Souza same
Sofi De Souza armyy

the windows in asylums are all like that (the ones at 2:26) for a reason. When asylums were first being designed, those windows were used along with long hallways because natural light is very calming to most psychiatric disorders. It was found that patients who were exposed to natural light, continuously, were less likely to be depressed than those that have restricted access to sunlight. These large, multiple windows also offered fresh air (the ones that could be opened, at least). This form of architecture is known as the "Kirkbride Plan". As you will notice, almost every room and hallway in this building has multiple windows, even the auditorium (which would normally have no windows and be darkened). If you were staying in a hospital for physical ailments, finding a room with a window would be difficult.
Kaitlin Rose the effect of sunlight has been proven to help with depressive moods and disorders, as you said.
It works because the natural light is reflected to sensory nuerons behind the eyes that trigger the release of serotonin. This increases mood! just a fun but of trivia :)
I didn't know that, that's really interesting!
Kaitlin Rose, wow dat idea is actually smart thinking🙃
Kaitlin Rose I've found the reason of why I love summer and sun so much
What sarah said makes a lot of sense. It must be true because 1) I spent 4 summers in a beach in Spain and fucking loved it there, now I live in Germany where it's pretty much winter all year long 2) I don't know if I miss the beach or the sun shining through my window helps my severe depression, it really changes my mood
Am I the only one who noticed at 2:57 it says 1776

That place isn't even that old if theres a shrek and high school musical poster o_o
it isnt... notice the vegetation on the outside isnt oit grown as in its not alot and its fresh
i said the place isn't that old, so you don't need to tell me it isn't when i already know xD
Lol ok
It could've just been vandalized by other people who have visited.
Yea, it's vandalized cause those posters are very recent. They aren't old like all the others.

Who else noticed the shrek poster at the start 😂
I whispered to myself "that'll do donkey" ...

me i was disturbed and skipped the video lol
GET OUT ME SWAMP
I did
It hurts me how at 5:32 the poster says "the mad children"
Yes that actually hurt too, it wasn't their fault that their brain chemicals were fked up and they produced too much Testosterone and other hormones which made them madder than other children.
Lucky now that we have medication to correct most of these imbalances.
Hannah Symcox I know and it makes me sad cause kids with autism went there and I have a brother with autism and seeing things like that make me want to cry

Gosh I have a form of autism and to think I possibly could have gone there is scary...

anyone else really want to know the history of this place?
me rlly bad because it looks like a awesome place to learn more about
+Loraina felix it's just always so eerie to me that all the stuff is still there like they just all got up a left, so awesome
Same
Yes! I wanna know why they leave perfect toys when we can donate that but it's so amazing I wish I could be there
If you think about it it's sad all those good childhood memoirs are gone just think happy little kids with there friend were once there
I'm going to answer the most common questions because they keep on being repeated.
1. They're wearing masks because the building is old and may contain asbestos, mold and such like that. Safety first, after all.
2. An asylum (an old term for psychiatric hospital) is a hospital for mentally ill.
3. Yes, there is a shrek poster. We all saw it.
4. No, babies weren't (usually) placed into psychiatric hospitals. This particular one had a section turned into a daycare.
5. The grass is cut because 'Orange is the New Black' is filmed there.
6. A Children's hospital was used for ages 0-18, though sometimes stopping at 16. Just because it was for children, doesn't mean that 4-5 year olds were the main kids. Alot of the time, children were temporarily placed in there to help deal with traumatic events (rape, molestation, witnessing murders, rapes, ect) and teenagers could be placed in there as well. Also, in older days, children with speech, behavior and vision problems (even minor ones) were placed in hospitals, or asylums.
7. Rockland Psychiatric Hospital, NY
8. The whispers are part of music
Stumbled across your channel and I've really been enjoying your stuff! I appreciate how you respect these places and don't unduly disturb or take anything, and how you are zoned in on the small details and objects that colored daily life in these places.
Lol I also have been listening to you talk and was like "he's got a hint of a regional accent, for sure, but where...?" And then you said "water bubbler" and everything clicked and I started laughing. My partner was born and raised right outside Boston so I immediately started hearing the New England in how you say "room" and "drawer" and "I never seen" 😄
70% comments that brought up the shrek poster
30% comments asking what’s an asylum 😂🤦🏻♀️
I like how respectful and informed you are with every place you go to. Its nice that you just arent skipping in there with no education
I find things like this beautiful, sad, and touching. The way these abandoned places look, the paint chipping, the history seeping through every object. I love history in general, but this is amazing, Exploring With Josh, you are the reason I work at a museum. Don't even get me started on the unique character that this building has, it's so sad to think they will never be loved by another child, never hugged, and now they just sit, waiting for another soul to love.
Epic this grate one of my faves! No alyssum or hospitals or anything abandoned never feels more grate then seeing the silent hill chipping paint..
Unlike most abandoned hospitals, this one doesn't seem scary or to have a bad vibe. Its weird.I feel like since the kids were actually loved and cared for it looks like, and that they tried their best to keep them occupied instead of just throwing them into a room, that this place leaves a lot of memories, not all good but most.Unlike other hospitals where the patients are beaten/starved/etc.
how did I JUST NOW find this channel?

Seems sad and haunting. I somehow wonder how the children were treated and also where are these children now, are they adults now? Very curious to know.

They were likely either executed or released.
Hey josh ,just dropping by to saying thanks for the hard work (from the uk) sorry to say I'm becoming a tad obsessed with your work hahaha, these places are like home being an someone who's worked in the psychiatric environment in hospitals for the adults though.once again thanks an stay safe on your adventures ✌🏼️🙃✌🏼
Josh, all of your work is amazing to see you document some of these old places to get an understanding of what went on there. This old Asylum is a sad part of US history of how we used to institutionalize people for every little thing. Of all the videos you have posted seems old children's toys at this a silent. This is probably the most powerful and heartbreaking video you ever made. You did a very nice job on this video and to see these old abandoned places and with children's toys still around it just breaks the heart. These were not nice places for children
this is a children's asylum?? Why would kids be in an asylum? and why does it look so much like a school?
They took care of kids with mental retardation and such.
Or kids who are just insane. Kids can be just as bad if not worse than some adults. Some kids kill their parents, but there are more minor things that could be a reason to be sent there. (like mental retardation, as I said)
Emily Webb Kids can have mental illnesses too. And if they did, BAM to the asylum they went just like adults.
These asylums acted as schools for children with mental disorders ranging from autism to IED to BPD. It's kind of like special education, but an entire school for it rather than a singular classroom. I think its good in regulation. The children should be exposed to the outside world at some point in time.
The hallways was awesome. Also, good to see the lawn is being kept up. Cant have the resell value of the property be diminished on such a pristine place
So true man . Hook me up with a shirt adam ill rock it !!
Josh, I always feel like you are a believer in paranormal activities and you are tense and expecting but I love how u respect history 😌 thanks for what u do. waiting new vids
There is something so beautiful and also eerie about this place. I can't describe it. The wonderful part about being a little kid is not having a care in the world what happens. They live life in the moment not in the future. I miss those days.....
How recent was this place abandoned? You probably say it during the video, but it looks quiet modern judging by the toys, whereas the building looks much older.
I believe sometime in the 2000's
crazysenpau Thanks
Hi senpai!
+crazysenpau but there were high school musical posters & hsm was made in 2006
+Kayeleigh Mullins ghosts? 👻💀
Idk why, if theres all of these abandoned buildings, why are we still building new ones. Clean up the abandoned ones and use those. Keep the enviornment cleaner and avoid wasting precious space on our planet. As of right now, we've only got one.
Amber yeah they should knock it down bc of lead disease
Amber i agree
They wear gas masks, and masks for a reason.
Some of the structures become unstable, scince this is a very old one that was probably the reason it was abandoned
Amber actually we have another we're just finding a way to get to it.
this is a wonderful building n that little stage show yall did was adorable
so many beautiful but also useful toys you can find. For each example, if there is any toy haunted by what should be there in the Asylum
Anyone notice that the little playground was freshly mowed?
It was probably turf/fake grass
It doesn't look fake. Turf has a very distinct dark green colour, each blade are have the same heigh, and spread evenly.
+Trisheekeshan if you watch part 2, they say some parts are still open so maybe the Gardiner gets bored??
Its because its semi abandoned. They use it to film oragnge js the new black
Did anyone else notice that that was a SAD ass playground
this is kinda sad think about the kids that played here had fun and more just left everything behind leaveing all there merioes in the asylum never coming back

I loooove the green/dark hallway 😍 pretty view in the windows.
I respect that you do not destroy or steal anything. You like to think about the possibilities of how that building was and what it must have been like for other people, that's true empathy.
i wonder how these places are abondoned, like the people before they left were like yeah let's go and leave this building behind us???or what
+josh lancaster Government Doesn't Own Places Like These, They're Pretty Much Private Place or should I say private school
sometime there is natural disasters like hurricanes, tornados, tsunamis that destroy them and most of the buildings are forgotten and abandoned
Well they can't take the building with them
End my suffering hahaha
+LukeFDW I seen that you wrote your name everywhere
It's strange but at 2:24 the grass is freshly mowed. I wonder why.
+BalloraGaming it is freshly mowed
cricket34 they're could still be people who are on maitinence (can't spell) make the building look somewhat okay on the outside. Not all the stuff they explore is completely left to rot
cricket34 orange is the new black was filmed there
Love the art in the main entrance, in that round area. Was cool
I’ve visited and explored an asylum in Massachusetts USA and part of the campus was still in use and other parts were unfortunately being condemned due to black mold and unstable structures. It was one of America’s first asylums. Also there was a book/movie about a few patients that attended this hospital called “girl interrupted” These buildings were once mansions that housed normally one person or family with staff on hand. I was so amazed on how beautiful the structure was it was incredible to experience. There was a bunch of tunnels leading to buildings on the hospital campus it was just so awesome to see. I tried to do some digging into the hospitals history but not much was found which I found quite odd. Any information I found was only high lights of the hospital. I read a book the rise and fall of this hospital I explored and still didn’t get much info on it. Over all an amazing time to see and learn about such places!! Awesome video keep it up and stay safe out there!
Okay, so this confuses me. Can someone tell me, how do people decide what the final straw is to put a child in an asylum? Because when I think asylum I think of an insane one.. I might be wrong, but if not, why would kids be there?
Parts of the building were used for a daycare and elementary school.
Though in the past it wasn't uncommon for children to be abandoned at places like this. Mental illness wasn't exactly an exact science at the time. Still isn't.
the children have to have a serious mental disorder that requires 24/7 care, some parents don't have that time, or just don't care, that is a rare occurrence these days, which explains why this asylum was abandoned.
Sometimes kids can have severe mental issues. Like schizophrenia can occur on young children and it can be so bad the child needs professional care 24/7. There are other mental issues as well that can be bad enough. It's not common for kids to be at that bad shape but it still happens.
it was used as a daycare after the asylum closed
Back in the day mental retardation was grouped with mental illnesses and was the majority of the patient base.
was it only me that saw the grass outside at the playground was cut?
Baguette c;
Oh cool!!!
I love abandoned places and your videos
Wowww amazing you guys are so incredible real life .real adventures.
Watching this makes me want to see the place the days before it was abandoned, and as everyone left.
So many kids losing their favorite toys and friends, how did they feel leaving?
I feel bad for the kids who died there. I feel like people should of be treated better at asylums.
It was a daycare...
+Calu_kan_ken_ I know, but I meant asylums in general

4evaFairyTail unfortunately there are a lot of parents who can't deal with "deficient" children. so a child with Downs syndrome for instance, who could be easily managed at home, and educated were an "embarrassment" to the family. or even severe ADHD, physical. deformity(even when n no learning disability existed) were hidden away from public
I used to love riding around in those carts. I haven’t seen one of those in years omg!!
Hi Josh !
Awesome video. Every item / every door/ every wall tells a sad story😞
Capturing the history of the building is remembering the children that were once there.
I am pleased & relieved to see both you & team are using the correct JSPs Respirators. ASBESTOS AWARENESS IS SO IMPORTANT. There are numerous other respiratory / lung diseases that can be picked up. If only other explorers looked after themselves as good as you!!!! RESPIRATORY/LUNG DISEASES ARE LIFE CHANGING AND CAN BE LIFE THREATENING!!!!
KEEP SAFE & WELL URBAN EXPLORERS🙏
Anyone else see the shriek poster at 0:57 and just thought shriek is love shriek is life
Shrek*
I thought that the kid that put up the poster is the one that made that😝
I'm panshreksual
+TigerTara made my day
There was also High School Musical lol
Why do you need children's asylums, how insane could they be?
You'd be surprised...my aunt works in a children's psych ward and I've heard some pretty crazy things.
I've heard of children who have murdered people. It's all mental Illness.
Obbsessive Artist oh they can get pretty crazy.
Not going against kids with autism or anything but I've heard that a lot of kids with autism have tried killing people too. But there are tons of sicknesses that can make them do that too
Obbsessive Artist
some could be murderous, homicidal, suicidal, depressed, mentally disabled, etc. etc.

PHAMILY??
PHAMILY ARE YOU HERE?
Sup Fello Phan, I was wondering where i can buy hamster? Cause you seem to know alot bout them ;-)
hello my dear phamily members
I don't think it was from the 1920s there was a lot of recent looking stuff there like playdoh and the signs seemed newly printed
It was built then but closed at some point in the 2000's
+purple rose aj ^^^^^^^^^^
There was a shrek poster
Playdoh was made in the 1930s, therefore it could've opened in the 1920s then they could've bought some playdoh when it came out because it closed in the early 2000s 😂😂
Asdfftyvhunkoydaegh It was built in the 1920's but abandoned maybe a little over a decade ago
i've seen grave encounters and it's honestly the only horror film(s) i get scared by. other horror movies i can just laugh it off, but grave encounters is the shit
Grave Encounters (the first movie) was the BEST shit! they did scary asylum creatures so well!
How is this an asylum it looks like a school!
This video actually made me really sad. Imagine all of the children who were locked in there. I spent a week in a "behavioral health center" and it was the worst place I've ever been. I can't imagine staying long term in a place like that.
Yeah.. they claim they are helping the kids but it's no surprise in Asylums and Hospitals and other things like this people are abused and raped and stuff. I've seen plenty of cases of terrible experiences and death I'm Adult mental Asylum's.. I can only imagine it happening from a child's point of view
+KittyThaKiller in*
0:36 is that a poster of Shrek next to the window
children's asylum is probably one of my most fave abandoned places (i love abandoned schools as well). imagine, long time ago, children used to play there a lot and those hallway isn't that scary.
I love your videos you do some crazy stuff man
