that was not a camera on the ceiling. They did not have that technology back in 1937. It must have been just a mirror so staff could still see if they patient was hiding behind something.

Socialiaziton used to (and still does) be a big problem for children with mental ailments, so they actually used to go to bowling alleys to help them socialize. As well as live theatre, and sports that the patients could play without hurting themselves or others.
And by the way.. The silver balls you saw in the patient's rooms, aren't cameras. They're just mirrors. The shape of them helped the guards, doctors, and nurses see the parts of the room they couldn't see, by looking through just the small windows.

Its really crazy to think about all the memories that were shared at all of these places, and how beautiful and lively these places were but now they're just gravely quiet. It'd be amazing if walls could playback memories...

Yes!!!! I am the WORST at remembering to do things! If I don't write down what I have to do for the day, I will mess around and forget to do something important, like, for example, follow up on a job application, which I was supposed to do today, but I forgot. See what I mean? LOL

I went to a hospital before and what they did was a thing called 10s and 30s (something like that) and if you were good and not hurting yourself or others you'd be able to get on 30s if your doctor allowed you. With this you had extra freedom like sometimes you'll have special opportunities to go to the game room, the gym, or even outside (but that's rare) so maybe they did something similar??

No, the entertainment places were for employees. The others were were locked up, drugged, shocked, and treated like the animals society thought they were. Mental illness was so misunderstood.
this places was open in the early 2000s (high school musical, shrek, blues clues) I doubt the children were being shocked and mistreated to that extent.

Sorry for the comment on an old vid, but the things on the walls at 0:36 are camel crickets! They feed on fungi that grow on damp basement walls, so that area would definitely be like heaven for them since the moisture from the flooding would cause a lot of fungi to grow :)

That's not a camera, it's a reflector so they can investigate the entire room through the little window in the door without having to open it.
I would of taken that girls picture and reasearched to find her and either give it or mail it to her if she is still alive.

Honestly I love this channel. When I see this stuff I don't think it's creepy. I think it's beautiful. How everything was left. How people actually used this place. I would love to go and take some photographs. Old vintage things are kinda my style. It's kinda hard to explain how much I love these things. Truly amazing

this an asylum for like kids. What can kids have to get here? can you imagine how scary it would be for a child to be there?
I've been in 3 mental hospitals. I was on the children's ward twice and the adult ward once. I'm better now, though, so I probably won't be going back, but I can tell you by experience that the adult ward is scarier. On the children's ward, it's more like just a daycare that you sleep at. You get medicine and therapy, but they also have activities like arts and crafts and stuff like that and you get to go to school for two hours on weekdays (you basically just do the school work that your school sends to the hospital, but they have a teacher there to help you if you need it.) The adult ward is basically a prison with medicine and some therapy, but not as much as you get on the children's ward. The staff doesn't care about their patients and some of the patients are seriously messed up. I feared for my safety on the adult ward, but I wasn't really that scared on the children's ward, although I did miss my parents.

I sometimes think that I went through what I went through so I can help someone going through the same experience or just answer questions that someone might have about what it's like in a mental hospital. And thank you, I am doing much better and I don't think I'll ever need to go back. :)

The so called 'caretakers' of children and adults were extremely cruel. Mainly because they didn't yet have the knowledge that is here today, yet still there is cruelty in the present times, so like they say, "history does repeat itself". So sad to say and even more sad to know.
Marie H Cruel caretakers were very rare. Nobody's going to allow somebody who has no idea what they're doing take care of the mad.
Spira It has been documented. Whether knowledgeable caretakers or not. Kids, adults, and the elders WERE abused in many different ways, this be in the 1800's and beyond. It still happens TODAY. I imagine, you may not want to believe this is so. Maybe rare, NOT! In the way past, anyone with mental disorders were put out of the main house to starve and die. How rare do you think this could have been?

+Camera Girl A daddy long legs spider is the best kind to let live in your house. Not only does it kill/eat insects but it will kill/eat other spiders. It won't hurt you at all. It was the only type of spider (that i remember) that my mom would let live in the house but only one though. You don't need many and you don't want to be cleaning up webs and dead bug bodies. lol

When I was about 12, I found this abandoned house. We broke into it with a crowbar, it hadn't been touched for years. There were photos of deformed children in the bedrooms. In the attic there was meathooks, it was really creepy. Wish I would have recorded it, but they renovated the place into a veterinary center now :(

god this is like being back in fallout 4 just looking around in abandoned places. I really like it where the place is the story like there are no NPCs, no holtaps, no enemies. just looking around seeing what happened before the war. that's the main resone I love the fallout games

That's not a camera. It's a domed mirror so they can look into the room from the window and see the patient if they weren't in direct view, such as crouched beneath the door window.

I think *some* people may take items but most people who come to these places only want to take pictures, I mean if everyone took something then what is there to photograph other than the floor and walls? usually old objects like toys, shoes, and other various items are the most photographed because it makes that place look much more creepy.
