I like when people do this one after they’ve already heard Epica on their own without Floor first. Most people look at this one first and stare at Floor and don’t often look beyond her. I’m glad you’re looking at everything and appreciating everything!
That friendship though! The chemistry between those two women on the stage amplifies the effectiveness of this performance so much imo. I love Simone and she is amazing but Floor has this special talent of matching other people's registers/tonality of their voices!

This is a great performance, but my favorite thing about it is the way the two ladies interact on stage. There's so much respect and affection here (like that head bump at 4:55), where the normal expectation is that they would be competitive with each other. It's so nice when you learn that the artists whose music you love are also nice people.

You are by far the best reactor. Vocal coaches never analyze the whole performance, and I am quite certain that they don't hear the full complexity of the music. You do. Bravo.

They usually comment on this song after three Nightwish songs and they focus on what they are familiar with, I suppose. I would probably just add to Chase´s assesment of their individual timbres that Simone is a mezzo-soprano while Floor is a soprano, which is something that allows Floor to reach higher notes with much more ease. But I really like Simone´s timbre when she goes lower with her voice. I think she has not used it yet in Chase´s reactions.

"The Divine Conspiracy" was my first Epica record. My dive into this genre had been a few months before with After Forever, and that album re-aligned all my neural connections and put me into metal grounds, so i still have a crush on its songs. Yet, when this show happened i was completely blown away. Not only they managed to play live with a frigging orchestra and record it flawlessly (engineers ftw); they had Floor the metal godess singing along. I hope you can get hands on the Retrospect DVD some day. It's an impressive masterpiece. Once this pandemic is over, i'm all in for a series of reactions of "Tank & Chase". It even has a ring to it, right? Like an 80's series.
I was trying to add up the number of channels they must have been running to that mixing desk - the orchestra is 70-piece, the mixed voice choir has to be at least 8 per section (I can hear the bass, baritone and tenor male parts, so probably split tenors with 4 male sections, but I'm less certain of the ladies parts - probably the same splits but different names and higher) - and then all the mics and band instruments, including one on each drum. I think it would be as tight as a ducks ass getting that lot into 150 channels. So yeah HUGE shout out to the audio engineers. The must've had an early breakfast to start soundcheck in order to be ready for the evening concert. Well worth it though - the results are spectacular! Simone and Floor's voices though! - the first tie I heard this piece I felt like going outside for a cigarette afterwards (and I quit over 3 years ago). The harmonies have the same feel as Delibes' famous duet from the opera Lakmé, The Flower Duet ("Sous le dôme épais"). The eastern theme is present in that too - it is set in India. [trivia] I believe Lakmé is the only opera to have a fashion brand named after it, and in an odd coincidence, their board chairperson for the first 46 years of existence is named Simone [/Trivia]. Classical voice training does include fast and silent breathing, so you rarely hear either Simone or Floor take a breath, and both have the lungs of some species of whale. Oh, and Simone was slightly restrained in her headbanging as she is 3 months pregnant in this show.
@@dc1925 I figured that there must be some kind of system like that in use, probably computer-based, which would allow mixing to be grouped, but it still doesn't remove the need to check each individual channel and balance it within the group it is assigned to. Every connection and cable has the potential for a problem and with that many, there are bound to be a few duds, and of course, you still have to balance them within the group or even sub-group before presenting the output to the next level up the tree, rinse and repeat at that level, then present the whole set to a manageable scale console. You gain in manageability during the event, but it still needs a lot of setup and testing. Last time I did anything like that was when it was all done with physical knobs and sliders with purely analogue technology and our 32 channel board (at my church) was considered studio-grade - yeah, I'm that old (it helps to live in the birthplace of electronics, with many members working in that industry and able to build it from scrap-bin or end-of-project components donated from work, and a new-build where we could have the hard wiring up to a triple glazed mixing room looking out over the main sanctuary). In addition to real-time amplification and relaying to the creche and other rooms as necessary, we recorded all services for the housebound at quality onto quarter-inch, with (frustratingly) a pair of recorders needed to last a full service (and a third as hot-spare). then it was edited some to get it under 90-minutes and mixed down from there to compact cassette and duplicated. from one master to 10 at a time (again, built by members) at 4x speed in a single pass (both sides of the cassette tape done together, so effectively 8x speed into 10 cassettes at a time) for distribution the following day. At 6 minutes for 10 cassettes, we could produce them pretty fast, by the standards of the day.
i have heard this song multiple times and i really like listening to your point of view as well as others. you and everyone else seem to point out something different. i have been learning to appreciate musical aspects of these groups like Epica, Nightwish and others. that a couple of years ago i would have written off as noise. thank you
Great reaction as always Chase. As you mentioned it in this video, Floor dropped a vocal masterclass video on her channel yesterday with regards to breathe control. It's well worth a watch.

Great reaction Chase, notice how floor and simone sort of switch "roles" and I think the choir was more often joining whenever floor was singing her parts rather than simone to give that "main" role feeling to simone, great song in any case with great singers. Thanks for the reaction Chase.
Funny you say that. I was thinking, “Damn. Those lights are too much.” I found them to be an annoyance more than complementary to the performance. To each his own.
I love your reactions! you're the best. It's like you can understand the richness and depth of every song which I haven't seen anyone do; you really pay attention and analyze every bit of it. I've heard this song a million of times and never understood the whole thing until I found your reaction. Thank you! it's also very fun to see the faces you do while you hear, I can totally relate haha
Loved this! It's such a good performance. With Epica the drummer Arien always stands out, he's so good and adds a lot of little bits in the live performances that aren't on the recorded songs. I would love to see you react to Epica - Chasing the Dragon! Also more Delain would be amazing, their latest album Apocalypse & Chill is fantastic. Burning Bridges or We Had Everything are great songs from that album.
Thanks Chase!!! I hope you do some more Epica soon 😉 I highly recommend Design Your Universe, Reverence (Living in the Heart), and Chasing the Dragon 👍 All three are complex and you might want to have a backup keyboard ready in case you wear out the space bar on this one 😜 Thanks again and have fun 🤘😎🎸
I wish you would react to After Forever (Floor's original band). It's the perfect blend of Epica and Nightwish (on the heavier side like Epica). I think you would really enjoy their work; so sad they're under-rated. People hardly react to their music. I recommend the following songs from them: Follow in the cry, Yield to temptation, Pledge of allegiance pt 1, Digital Deceit, Energize me, Victim of choice, Sins of idealism (gosh there's so many. I'm gonna stop here for now lol)
I guess the issue with AF not being requested more is that the band split up so long ago. It did not benefit from additional 10 years (or more) of promotion to audiences and largely not being in the public eye. The quality of music has little to do with it, in my opinion. Thankfully, it still benefits from being connected to Mark and Floor and there are some reactions. :-)
@@Immortall1408 yeah- it sucks that they were disbanded :( still have some epic performances and their studio albums are epic! Mayan does Follow in the Cry and Pledge of Allegiance, but it's nothing like when Floor performs with them :/
@@RandallHidalgoS21allas96 I think they're both awesome, and my opinion goes back and forth between which one I prefer. After Forever reminds me more of a blend of Epica and Within Temptation for some reason, maybe it's the production. ReVamp is awesome too, they're just harder to describe IMO I'd say they're more intense, sometimes they remind me of a darker Nightwish but usually it's something totally different, a bit heavier. Both bands are awesome though, not that it's a surprise, anything Floor touches turns to gold!

5:55 honestly, I waited for this and your face made me giggle :) What a joy to watch you listen to these songs!
And, also, KUDOS for still being so analytical in some of those musical things, I would never hear on my own. Thank you so much for your hard work!
I love your reactions and the breakdowns of the music you give...I hear so much more in the music after watching your reaction and love for this music only grows deeper! 😃 Julia, Tank, and you are my favorite reaction channels...I get 3 very in depth and different versions that make up a whole awesome picture!
The fun they all have on stage is awesome, same thing when band leader and Floor played in After Forever.
Thank you Chase for reacting to this masterpiece!
Greetings from Romania!😊
That reaction was legit! Your face, your mimics, your pauses.
Great job!
Subbed!
I was waiting for your reaction the first time the chorus came around. You did not disappoint. Great reaction, as always.
Part of Epica used to be in a band called Afterforever whose lead singer was a young lass named Floor Jansen...
Is not Just Mark?
@@moki288 may be now, IIRC there was one other but I am fuzzy on that
During the first week of our total lockdown here in South Africa, I sent this link to my brother his reaction was one word: INSANE
Ahhh yesss! Excited for this 🙌 Thanks Chase 🤘
You know it’s going to be a ‘pause-fest’ 😆
Oh boy Epica.....
The essence of silence
Freedom - the wolf within
Design your universe
Storm the sorrow
Awesomeness
Next after Epica... Delain?
Hopefully, After Forever. Lol
Let's not forget the Serenade of self destruction!
The Gathering in the Anneke period? :D
Delain with Marco!
Chase heeft al reacties gedaan van Delain.
I knew you would love this and i'm glad you did
Finally! ❤️
Got some disappointing news this night at work but yet you're making me smile again 🤗
Indeed loving it, have a good one Chase ☺️
Keep strong.
LOL everyone needs a hard reboot after listening to this. Floor and Simone? Come on man...#1 and #2 in my personal list of best female vocalists. I love how the harmonize, I love the fact that they are good friends, I love that they have so much passion for what they do and are both such sweet, down to earth "real" people in real life. Then you have the band members themselves.....c'mon, have you seen a tighter group of musicians? Okay, maybe Nightiwsh, but really they are both so good, why would you choose right? :-)
This song is an absolute masterpiece. That chorus is burned into my brain, and now finally THE Mr. Carneson has got around to giving us his excellent break down and reaction? I was sitting here shouting at my monitor "GO BACK TO THE START!!! THATS WHAT WE DO AROUND HERE !!!" Ok this day CAN'T get any better! Cheers sir!
I'm so excited! Can't wait for this!
I’ve been waiting a long time for you to get to this performance! Never disappoints!
The studio version was actually written as a solo song, so I guess it makes sense that Floor takes a supporting role live.
Ayreon - This Human Equation If you want more Ayreon and Simone (who doesn't want more Simone) great song off of his last album. I love Ayreon and would love to see him as well as Tohider on the channel a bit more great video chase as always
Finally. So looking forward to this, it's going to be EPIC
...A
Heya, chase. Missed you this a.m. :( This was worth the wait, tho. Simone and Floor, together, has to be one of the most eargasmic experiences one can have. Lol, Pause Squad, present and accounted for! Thanks for the excellent start for my Sunday. I hope yours was just as good!
A great duet between 2 symphonic metal goddesses. Simone Simons was 3 months pregnant when they did this show & i moan when I have to carry shopping.
Gary Holloway 😂😷👍🏻🤘🏻
I cant believe i watched most of your 7 month journey in 4 5 days man 10 hours a day probably lol BEST REACTION CHANNEL EVER! You know what would be cool? TOOL REACTION! Sober(live) is a good starting point :)
Wow, thanks! I appreciate you
You should see both of them at "Epica - Stabat mater dolorosa
Btw good to hear Epica here again
Oh. My. Gosh. Two favourites in a row? Yes please! 😍
The only reactor i have ever seen who said Simone and Floor have different vocal, and i agree with you Chase.
As usually Great reaction and much informations.
For next Epica I recommend :
Design You Universe
Cry For The Moon
Phantom Of Agony
Universal Death Squad
Monopoly On Truth
Kingdom Of Heaven
Chasing The Dragon
Hope you will do it Chase 😁 and I still waiting for Babymetal turn 😂🤘🏿
Have a damn good day Chase🙏
I find it impressive that the orchestra can play with all the lighting effects.
Thank you so much for deepening my love for this masterpiece by expressing your love for music physically, with absolute hearing perfect pitch and sharing your knowledge. I'll be listening to this vid over and over again to go deeper and deeper in. Love to you and your loved ones
The amount of work must have been insane to get everything ready.
I am so glad I subscribed. Reaction channels have gone down the drain IMO. I love the pauses and breakdowns. THAT is how a reaction video should be.
Appreciate that!!!
Imagine having to read notes with all those lights going on. Major, major props to the orchestra and the choir!
Man, you weren't ready for that at all 😆💙💙
i have heard this song multiple times and i really like listening to your point of view as well as others. you and everyone else seem to point out something different. i have been learning to appreciate musical aspects of these groups like Epica, Nightwish and others. that a couple of years ago i would have written off as noise. thank you
Great reaction as always Chase. As you mentioned it in this video, Floor dropped a vocal masterclass video on her channel yesterday with regards to breathe control. It's well worth a watch.
Ayreon - The day that the world breaks down next :)? Anyways, awesome reaction, keep it coming!!
...for no particular reason at all, of course...
That's how you make a high fucking quality reaction. It's an A+ reaction when the content creator points out lots of details on his first listen that you haven't noticed over dozens of replays. My man doesnt even react, he A N A L Y Z E
Very, very nice review again Chase! Much respect!
Great reaction Chase, notice how floor and simone sort of switch "roles" and I think the choir was more often joining whenever floor was singing her parts rather than simone to give that "main" role feeling to simone, great song in any case with great singers. Thanks for the reaction Chase.
shoutout to whoever programmed the lights on that show!
Thank you for your kind words, Yasmin. 🙏🙏🙏
@@ChaseCarneson Thank you for sharing your reactions!
Welcome back my vertigo - Chasing the Dragon!
Finally dude!!!!! Been waiting like crazy for this... xmas came early today! Awesome vid and reaction man!
Never heard the horn before!! Now I can not unhear it!!! Thank you
Thanks Chase!!! I hope you do some more Epica soon 😉 I highly recommend Design Your Universe, Reverence (Living in the Heart), and Chasing the Dragon 👍 All three are complex and you might want to have a backup keyboard ready in case you wear out the space bar on this one 😜
Thanks again and have fun 🤘😎🎸
I love your reactions because makes me remember how I felt the first time I listened those songs...
Thank you 🙏
I have been requesting this for so long, thanks Chase ❤🔥
by they way, Simone was 4 month pregnant during this concert
Been waiting for this one for a while.
Mayan does Follow in the Cry and Pledge of Allegiance, but it's nothing like when Floor performs with them :/
if you think after forever is underrated, what about revamp? people seems to don't even know about their existence
Both bands are awesome though, not that it's a surprise, anything Floor touches turns to gold!
monolith of doubt is a good one as well
Maybe the best symphonic metal performance ever. Great music and amazing vocals.
Really find it amusing that Chase adopts the same defensive positions as my cat. Love this reaction man, always learn something new from you. Keep it up
😂😂😂 Accurate
Thanks Chase, that was a great reaction
I would like to see you react to one of their longer ones next, either
Design Your Universe (at that same concert)
Kingdom of Heaven ('live' in Mexico)
EDIT: I would personally prefer DYU, as the lyrics have an uplifting message which is so good to hear right now
specifically, the one from this concert
One of the best 'breakdown' reactions to Sancta Terra - Thanks!! Cheers from an Ancient Medic.
Thank you for this! 🙏🙏🙏
