I’m looking around for decent reviews on this camera and it’s quite hard to find a 2022 update lately . I’m always curious of how this sensor stacks up with the alexa classic and xt plus in 2k res 4444. Been using the arri but never tried my hands on the varicams. I’m curious because I like it’s unique V-log colour science and maybe probably get a 2nd hand used 35 or the LT one day
The sensor performance is the closest u can get to the Alexa performance. In terms of highlight while it kills d Alexa with its 5000 iso. If u can deal with prores raw debayer with assimilate scratch to Vlog vgamut to say prores xq then u have Hollywood latitude in Ur hands if u work with ACES in DaVinci resolve then u can make it look anyway u want. One of the most underrated camera ever.
Thank you very much for this review Nick, it would have been great if you used a decent camera on the small body to see a more reasonable gab for the comparison. Q: Do you still have to reboot the LT to excess particular functions or has this been solved in a firmware release? Another Q if you don't mind; Any way around avoiding the P2 cards, Atmos or somthing more compact and would there be a decress in quality doing so? Thank you :)
This was done previous to some of the major firmware updates that improved the boot time etc.. But at the time we had to reboot to switch from 4k to variable frame rate in HD. VLT has 3G-SDI Out, so an Atomos with SDI would probably work(we didn’t test that, I assume quality wouldn’t decrease ), but I would want to use P2 anyways just in the interest of keeping the rig maneuverable. All I had at the time was my lil GH4 which is a vast difference in comparison. I would have had a better cam to bring, but the cam was provided to us with the understanding that we were testing & experimenting with VLT and not creating a major camera comparison video. Sorry for the delay, last year hit me like a ton of bricks which is why I haven’t been as active here. Looking forward to posting better work here in future, Thank you for feedback, and best wishes in the new year!
I could never put a pricetag on this organic experience. If I had the money we would of camped out, gone multiday and have a charcoal sponsor.. But, yeah Didn't cost money, except for the food which I think was well worth it with the color science. Love that VLT! Cheers! Thanks for view/sub

I haven't used both but I've heard some DPs say it is still the closest thing to an Alexa

Lmao what a waste of money with that color science. Nice review tho, subbed.

Josh Meade...what is it about the color science you don't like?
