    By far and away the best review format I have ever seen this side of Top Gear, but actually technically informative and not just entertaining. Simply brilliant. I learned and laughed equally during the 4 minute review, or at least it felt like 4 minutes.

    Probably the best review format out there. Gives you a clear idea of the product, yet you're entertained.
    I think you should probably reset the camera now.

    after watching HUNDREDS of reviews from so called PRO´s i finally have the feeling to actually listen to real PRO´s . Can´t decide if i should buy the Ursa mini pro or wait for the Panny EVA 1? or a Sony´FS 7? nah .. don´t know on paper the EVA1 seems to be the Camera for me especially because of the double native ISO and my trust in the reliability of Panasonics. The Ursa is tempting but it´s maybe not so reliable and bad low light and maybe a more challenging Cam for run and gun. some suggestions? i would appreciate a little help very much. Thank you for the review.

    • @extrashot
      @extrashot  7 лет назад

      mmm... it's a difficult decision right now, mainly because we don't have much in the way of details for the EVA1. I suppose it all comes down to how quickly you need to get hold of the camera? The Sony FS7 has become the industry standard for broadcast, and it's certainly a great camera, but personally I prefer the pictures from the URSA Mini Pro, especially the Cinema DNG RAW which comes as standard. But then Blackmagic have a reputation issue which is taking a while to shake off. What is clear is Canon have priced themselves out of the market at the moment... unless you need great auto-focus!
      So if I stop rambling... no single camera seems to do all I want at the moment. Maybe the EVA1 with a GH5 would be the best combo looking forward? I think I'd wait a few months and see what happens !!!

    • @CALO65
      @CALO65 7 лет назад

      thanks, i can live without a great autofocus if it´s not as crappy like in GH4. Footagewise i like URSA and Panasonic LT, the FS7 ist great to but sometimes i don´t like the Image. And i never worked with XAVC don´t know what to think about it and the "Sony Color Science" . So many different Opinions out there. Yeah, EVA and GH5 that´s what i was thinking about but the A7s II for better low light instead of the GH5? then it would be better to go with FS7 and A7s II. or go URSA and A7s II but there´s no E-Mount for BM. ah im going slightly mad ...!! :-)

    • @CALO65
      @CALO65 7 лет назад

      HI we don´t want to go with Red´s or similar Kameras. As we worked with the GH4 and liked the results very much i think it will be the EVA1 plus an external Recorder. I just going to check some footage as soon it´s available.

    The startup time is not bad at all for a Digital Cinema Camera, I’ve been shooting since the Original Red One with the MX sensor, and that took about a minute and a half, the Epic MX about 40 seconds, and the Helium about 20.

    • @extrashot
      @extrashot  5 лет назад +1

      My favourite Cinema camera at the moment is the Sony Venice... and that seems to manage around 6 seconds to boot-up. Very useful. They don't have to be slow to be Cinema.

    • @pablovi77
      @pablovi77 5 лет назад

      extrashot Never used a Venice, the last professional Sony cam I used was the F900 and a few shots with the F23. I use a Sony A7Riii for stills though. I’d use the Venice, but it’s not very popular here in Mexico City and quite expensive to rent.

    Would you buy one today knowing they dropped some US$6,000 off the RRP? I wonder how today it stacks up against the full frame competition ( are we really moving away from super 35mm sensors ) . With Blackmagic and Kinefinity offering amazing specs for less money or comparable money and with 6K now coming to the fore.... is the discount enough to persuade you to buy one. Yes the picture and colours by all accounts are great but if I’m investing that much money I want it to still be relevant in 3 years. Yes firmware updates are great but.....

    • @extrashot
      @extrashot  5 лет назад

      Better buying one today than yesterday !!! (I wonder if anyone bought one just before the drop?)
      Seriously though, you make a good point... and with the move towards easier compressed RAW workflows, I'm not sure how much longer these small differences in colour science are going to be relevant. The pictures from the LT are lovely... but are we sure you can't achieve the same results with an URSA Mini Pro shooting BMRaw? I've also got mixed feelings about the whole full frame thing. I don't think I want or need it for 90% of my work... but I suppose it would be nice to have the option? Having a full frame but being able just to use the cropped S35 is probably a compromise worth paying for... if only for the additional light levels.

    Does the varicam Lt shoot raw in 4k ??
    Is it better than Red Gemini 5k in extreme low light conditions ??

    • @AlexDerrick_DP
      @AlexDerrick_DP 5 лет назад

      The Varicam is the best low light camera on the market. Panasonic created the dual iso and the native iso on this camera is 800 and 5000.. Better colors than Gemini in my opinion. Just dont use the Panasonic vlog to v709 lut. The arri one ... great image.

    19s to start. But great IQ. Something our nice Extrashot guys did not go through is the controversy about the not that cinematic shutter... One only frame remind me of that prob : the guy walking in front of sea @1:00... his legs are not showing the pure smooth cine style, must say... I guess it was 180°... but I'll leave it to the pros.

    The Menus are a copy of the Alexa, and it’s the simplest and easier menu to navigate. This is a Digital Cinema Camera, not an ENG.

    • @extrashot
      @extrashot  5 лет назад +1

      I realise that you've got to expect to take a while to get used to any new menu system... it's a learned process that should become second nature. I think the trouble I had was simply finding even some of the most basic functions buried lower down the menu, and having to turn the camera off between so many changes was a major wind-up. I'm told the firmware has improved, but haven't had a chance to play with the latest. If you think think that the Alexa is the simplest and easiest to use, you should see what Blackmagic are doing with user interfaces.
      Do ENG cameras still exist? How would you define one now? Small sensor, fast start-up, light body, big zoom?

    • @pablovi77
      @pablovi77 5 лет назад

      extrashot Yeah, They still exist, I think, for news cameraman, and such. They have most functions with dials and knobs.
      I like the menu on the Black Magic cameras, I haven’t used the new Ursa Mini Pro, but I’ve used the previous one (4.6 K) a lot. And yeah. It’s a nice menu, but having a dedicated menu LCD with buttons for most basic setup, specially the ones you most use as a DP is great. You need to know that I come from mostly shooting RED cameras, from the Red One MX to the Helium, I’ve shot all of them, and have about 100 1 hour TV episodes with them. So, using an Alexa menu is a breath of fresh air.
      Right now I want to buy something cheaper for small jobs and education, that’s why I ended up on your video, I’m between this Varicam LT and the Canon 300 MK II, but i haven’t shot a Varicam since the ENG one, and have never shot Canon. So I’m a little lost, and watching as much as I can about them.
      Thanks for the video.

    • @extrashot
      @extrashot  5 лет назад +1

      @@pablovi77 If I wasn't worried about the Blackmagic reputation for reliability, I'd definitely say take a look at the new URSA MP G2. also worth thinking that there may be a new Canon Cinema Camera soon, C500 Mii? and probably a new Sony FS7/F5 replacement too (FX9)? ...and I appreciate your comments. I hope you find something useful from the videos. Paul
