The transportation app was very helpful when there. 1 day or 3 day options are available (and additional options as well). When the bus arrives, you can get in the front or back door, and just show the pass from your phone, though most drivers seemed to not care.
There were plenty of affordable options in San Francisco, I found a private room for under $100 right in the city, plenty of meals were under $15-20 and using public transit was $5/day. Probably even better/cheaper options, but those are the ones I went with! ✌️
