- Hey guys, I finally uploaded another video! Sorry if the editing seems a little off for this one, not that it's ever ON, but I tried to work around not getting copyright claimed so here’s hoping it's not too bad. Also, I use the term “saga” and “arc” pretty interchangeably, so if you don’t like it, then just remember that I’ve actually never seen an episode of Dragon Ball so I don’t know what I’m saying. Also, the reason there was an Xbox controller in 1996 is because that scene is not cannon and is a part of the EU. It has nothing to do with me being a dumbass. Hope you like the video!
Also, I very stupidly forgot to give credit to Bulby for their fabulous 8-bit rendition of the GT intro. Link to the channel is right here, so check out their other awesome retro remixes! / bulby
To be fair regarding silly names, Nappa is literally a cabbage, and Freiza is named what he is bc Toriyama thought the fridge was like the boss of the vegetables
Edit: a full year later I'm tired of correcting people. Google napa cabbage before you tell me "he isn't named after a cabbage, that's cabba"
Yeah, that's true
My favorite is the Capsule Corp. family being named to underwear. Had a distinct memory when I was a kid, and my older brother was introducing a girl (possibly his gf) Dragonball Z to her with arts of Trunks on the computer. She said "Trunks was it? I like to see him in his trunks"
Gohan means rice or the midday meal, Goku and Goten are named partly in reference to that. Minor character Lunch and first arc villain Emperor Pilaf from early Dragonball is based around that theme. Oolong, Yamcha, and Puar are all named for tea. Piccolo and all his early minions are named after musical instruments...heck, minor good guys include _Mr. Satan_ and his daughter who is an anagram of _Devil_ . Characters whose names aren't silly are the exception in Dragon Ball, that's for certain!
Trunks ? Briefs ? Lol no i can't complain much about names anywhere in this franchise .
Yh but all the saiyans are named after vegetable, and isn't "king cold, cooler, frieza" following a name pattern too?
It's one thing to have a patter for naming things and another for naming a character "baby" 💀

For me, I found Dragonball GT as a little kid when I was trying to download Dragonball videos and use Limewire (which was hard as hell back then). I found clips of the battles in Japanese and had no clue what it was! GT was not in the U.S. back then. So I came to love it because I watched those clips thousands of times! As a little kid, we were still in the Feieza Saga, whereas I was watching Goku go from Golden Ozaru to SSJ4. It has a fond place in my heart. Don’t care about the hate people have for it. It exists and I am grateful for it! 🔥
Likewise man, I remember watching DBGT on my grandpa's laptop when I stayed with them in the afternoon after morning school. Special
I had my cousins to thank for getting my brother and me an early peek in 98 or 99, of course being that DBZ was still new over here and no one knew GT it was just one of those things that you could show and mesmerize all the kids in elementary school with.
Oh man, member' Final Bout?!(ps1)
I remember watching all of GT around 2001 by downloading episodes piecemeal off KaZaA and various DB websites, as well as trading fansubbed VCDs with the guy who ran our local comic ship. I ended up watching a weird mishmash of Japanese, Spanish, and Italian episodes, so the English dub is actually the most alien to me with its weird hip hop vibe lol.
I discovered Dragon Ball world with the drawings of some GT episodes in a French magazine. It was almost more than 20 years ago when I discovered it.

Fun fact: It's narratively satisfying that Goku befriends the dragon that represents the Four Star Dragon Ball, because that was the Dragon Ball that Goku originally owned at the beginning of the series. One thing no one ever seems mention is that the Trunks in GT has the same exact personality as the one in Dragon Ball Z despite the fact they are actually two different characters. Future Trunks developed his personality because of the hardships he had to face due to the androids. Whereas the present Trunks was kinda bratty and acted sort of like Vegeta. It's not unbelievable that GT Trunks would become more humble as he grew up, but it still doesn't warrant him becoming the exact same character as future Trunks. It would've made sense if he grown up to be a little more arrogant and preppy. I think if they wanted a nice, mellow and humble character, Goten should've filled that role.
I mean, between the events of GT and Z a long time passed (10-20? from the ending epilogue of DBZ) and it's implied that almost everyone just kinda stopped fighting and went on to live regular lives, Trunks is the leader of some corporation, Gohan is a hard-studying Nerd, and Vegeta softened a little bit to become a household dad. Maybe going for so long without fighting made everyone softer and less aggressive and arrogant, especially Trunks, who had other responsabilities to attend to
@@nainorotodoxTheir point is that GT Trunks is exactly like Future Trunks, when he shouldn't be. Your comment is "Well the reason this Trunks is different is because he didn't fight as much" when the point is that they're not different at all. GT Trunks shouldn't be like Future Trunks because GT Trunks is a nerd and Future Trunks was a warrior.
@@SkimpyJigglesJr.-ff2ibWell then.. that’s the difference? Albeit both are nerds. GT Trunks is just more nerdy than his counterpart. On top of that, what Shrek said makes sense.

Isn't that the solution to the cannon it's gt is just the continueation of future trunk if they had namakian dragonballs so they didn't need to travel back in time
Ngl bro I don’t think GT trunks acts like future trunks at all…
This era is when I grew up. Late 90s, early 2000s and man do I remember how cool Japan was to us. They had so much stuff that took YEARS to arrive to the US, let alone Europe in many cases.
Imagine if today, in 2024 Japan got a new Dragon Ball show and it took 6-7 years for us to get it dubbed. Imagine not even a Japanese release wjth subtitles. Imagine just hearing about it and stories but never seen it. And for years you read artitcles or see stuff in magazines, websites, etc. And finally one day we get it.
Wild times. Now anything can be imported so easily and with the internet, any fan can decide to do their own dub if needed lol. It might not happen a lot but my point is it's possible. And long before anything like that, we now get full descriptions, trailers, videos, subbed episodes all before a dub sometimes. But at least you get a lot. Before you simply had stories until someone showed proof.

I really like the concept of the evil dragons. They really do rely on dragon balls do much, and, with all the universe altering they do, you'd think they actually WOULD build up some sort of negative energy. I'd love to see super borrow this.

@@kaiderhaiii it’d be hilarious to see a flashback to the super hero movie explaining how bulma’s wishes brought the evil dragons upon them
@@kaiderhaiii that bbl booty tho 😂
Super has already borrowed a lot of non-canon content from the movies so it's not unlikely they'll tackle some GT stuff as well.
Why does the energy build up have to be negative? In a world where bullets are basically spit balls to trained humans and magic and ghost exist, how much a transgression would altering reality really be? I think people just aren’t honest, the audience doesn’t want a quick fix button. If they simply made Dragonball a like nukes it that’s an easy fix but there’s too many fictional solutions to act like grounding it to real world would be the best option….sorry you’re not the first to think of this so I’m prepared

I honestly really liked the Baby arc because until EXTREMELY recently in terms of the story’s existence, they never really talk about the fact that the Saiyans are serious genocidal maniacs. Full stop. And I LOVED the idea that a victim got revenge
I also like how Baby literally became what he despised. Poetic irony.
@@coreytoomey7579 also that he NEVER realized that fact. So sure in his purity of mission he never considered any sort of moral quandary
@@KingCarnaTo be fair, the fact that saiyans were genocidal maniacs was at the very beginning of Dragon Ball Z. They talked about it immediately, when they introduced the Saiyans as a species. The Saiyans were the muscle in a universe spanning empire that invaded planets, ended all life on those planets, and then sold the planets to other space entities. From day one they were shown to be genocidal maniacs and nearly every time they were brought up in the past tense they were shown to be genuinely evil with evil hearts. GT expanded on the lore but there was never a single moment that the Saiyans of this universe were shown to be anything except for genocidal maniacs.
@@SkimpyJigglesJr.-ff2ibThat’s the point. Baby’s hung up on something in the past. His whole point is to get revenge for something long after it’s over. Vegeta acknowledged it but he didn’t deny the Saiyans doing what they did back then. He tells him, in his Vegeta way, to basically forget about it and leave Gohan’s body or else.
Think concept was great as you said the execution of that story was just wonky
A mistake I made when rewatching was not having the Japanese music while watching the dub. because the English music of gt has like 4 tracks just repeated on every episode where as the Japanese music has more variety.
You really stressed that? Lmao!
I actually thought the English soundtrack was good. The problem was that all the tracks sounded very similar to each other and gave off the same tone despite the fact that GT has multiple tones to it.
But, due to the bleak and dark tone of Mark Menza's music, the stakes felt higher in all the serious moments, particularly the Baby saga when Goku achieves ssj 4 for the first time. I thought the music fit and set the tone for GT and its dark and dull world perfectly. With a plot that focuses on the corrupted dragon balls, the resurrection of a previously destroyed race full of hatred, a villain ruling over the planet, an adventure through the dark corners of the galaxy and and onslaught of dragons spawned by pure negative energy, that music felt like it was perfect for a show like this. After all, GT isnt all sunshine and rainbows like Super is. Take the destroyed future world scenes of the Goku black arc for example. If this music was used there, it would reinforce the idea of how messed up Trunks' world is, add more stakes to the fate of that world and make Goku Black seem even more menacing with his actions. The English music for GT was one dimensional in tone and while it was a good fit for most of GT, it still felt incredibly out of place for the light hearted scenes.
Where it fails though, is the majority of the first arc and parts in between other major arcs, due to the comedic scenes. Such dark and dull music seems very out of place in a scene where the characters are goofing around or acting casual.
So yeah, I think in the serious moments of GT that music is great. But in every non serious scene it feels very goofy and unusual.
Dan dan kokoro hikareteku is better than the grand tour. What was english dub thinking? So glad for the rerelease of GT box dub they had vic mignogna sing the japanese dub of GT

Although, a majority of Dragon Ball "humour" is incredibly weird in general. I'm a huge fan of GT Vegeta and his progression. I could go on and on about why I love the Series but I'll just end it on this... GT ended on a high note. A mysterious, yet satisfying ending to Son Goku. Having the balls to wrap up his story when it was time to hang up the Gi. The final act is what stays with us in most things. And through the ups and downs, I'm happy with GT being the end to classic Dragon Ball.
It's not everyone's cup of tea and that's fine. But if you haven't, then definitely give the Original Dub/OST a shot before final judgement. It's the soul of the Series. And the only Dragon Ball Series that Akira Toriyama has publicly praised 3 times.

Would’ve loved to see them fuse
@@souljamarx Aw man, that was one of the unforgivable sins of GT to have an adult Goten and Trunks with no adult Gotenks.
I personally think that the writers for GT had no clue what to do with Goten in GT which has been an issue since Goten first appeared. The writers in Z did nothing with Goten except have him be Goku's clone baby. In Super he was relagated to the role of Trunks' sidekick. Even when you think that something should be happening to Goten and Trunks in Super nothing ever does! Toriyama even forgot that they weren't 7 or 8 in Super like they were in Z and it wasn't until Super Hero that the boys got a redesign. They literally went from being 7 and 8 to being 14 in the blink of an eye.
Long story short, the entire franchise has never done anything with Goten so you can't really blame GT.
@@Charles_Anthony nah, Goten is still the youngest super saiyan. The son of Goku who not only had the son of Vegeta as a best friend but then introduced the first fusion character in the series that went SSJ3 as children just from watching Goku do it once. The only other canon SSJ3 character even now. Far more than just a clone. The foundation for both of their potential was set and the argument back then was Goten got too much love and didn’t have struggle for accomplishments. So, in GT and Super I believe they listened and wish to have him go through struggles with humanity like lust and laziness before releasing the potential established from his inception. GT failed because it never had anything that came after his human desires to distract him. Super still has a chance.

8:30 I'm not gonna lie, most of the video is on-point and very good, but this is a nothing burger. Literally who cares on if the narrator said Dragon Ball when referencing GT. It's 2 seconds of a 20+ minute long animation that has absolutely no effect on the content or plot of the episode, the animation, storytelling, voice acting, etc. If you actually care that much about the opening narration that quite literally is just a you problem I'm gonna be real. Dragon Ball is gonna be Dragon Ball whether or not the narrator opens up with 'Next time on Dragon Ball GT.' This is not a valid criticism about the actual quality of the series, it has nothing to do with the actual content or plot of the show.
I think all your points were great. Only thing I will add is Pan is suppose to act that way. Because her grandfather Hercule was taking care of her. So she didn't have the same humbleness that other characters had. So part of it is her maturing into a good and respectful person.
Plus, Pan has that same type of energy/fire that Chi Chi and Videl have. They really toned Videl down in Super and GT but she used to be a spitfire in Z and I think some of Pan's more annoying outbursts can be attributed to who she's related to more than her being raised by Mr. Satan/Hercule. However, it does explain her spoiled/ "I'm better than you" type of attitude that she has in the beginning since her grandfather is so prideful.
@@Charles_Anthony Chi Chi was like that as a child and then a bit as as an adult but Z made her seem half like Bulma and half like a stereotypical 'study study' mother. I like her more as a fighter. She did not have to change like that just because she is a mother.
@@LegendarySpaceRipper: Chi Chi had a bad temper but I don't really remember her being spoiled. She was honestly more shy than spoiled due to living in the middle of nowhere. And I agree wholeheartedly that Akira ruined Chi Chi's character by making her a tiger mom. At least, off screen, she shows that she's still a fighter by training Goten how to fight, but that always clashed with the personality Akira gave her when she raised Gohan..
@@Charles_Anthony I never really got it either as her father raised her to be self-reliant and to fight although he was there if she needed help. She could have been a great mother whilst fighting with Goku. Another reason for it being odd is that she was excited to fight Goku in the ring yet suddenly became naggy and treating Gohan like he is an average human. I mean she did not worry when Goku did stuff at the same age
@@LegendarySpaceRipper: You're not wrong. She just got bitter over time, but her coddling Gohan does make sense when you remember that he was kidnapped by Piccolo for over a year. That would make any parent become clingy.
GT is the opposite of Super.
GT: Great ideas (usually); poor execution.
Super: Boring ideas; (usually) competent execution.
Certainly if one tried to *fix* one of these shows, GT would be the easier fix.
Some better names (Baby), cut some crap out (50% of black star dragonball hunt arc, all of super android 17), a few better character designs (Vegeta Baby looks kinda dumb), and a better soundtrack would go a really long way into making GT good.
Fixing Super on the other hand, I mean, I'd have to scrap practically the whole show. The ideas weren't botched, they're just bad.

@@MattsAlive What do you mean?
@@Vi-ob1yu I really enjoyed the goku black arc in super ,it wasn't bad
@@Vi-ob1yu the japanese soundtrack for gt is arguably the best soundtrack in the series in my opinion. funimation butchered gt and even trolled fans of the japanese version of gt with this ruclips.net/video/IMzkRB2YT1s/видео.html
There are parts of GT that didn't work for me, but here are the things I liked:
1) It brings back some of the feel of old old DB, back when Goku was a kid and they were traveling the world and meeting weirdos. A lot of people who grew up on DBZ alone don't enjoy those parts, but I do.
2) I find that GT is willing to explore the themes of Dragonball, and take them in thematically appropriate directions. For example, SSJ4 wasn't just about power creep. SSJ4 was (IMHO) about conquering rage, and Goku was able to achieve it because it's not in his nature to indulge in rage. It says something about Goku. (Also, fan theory: the Super Saiyan of legend was a Golden Oozaru.)
3) More thematic exploration: how the dragon balls were used to undo evil, and Goku and friends had to fight that evil. Or, in the case of the four star ball, Goku purified it just by having it in him. That's how the entire series worked: Goku's influence on others was to make them better, not worse. I approve.
4) Still more thematic exploration: the end of the era of dragon balls would mean the world finally learning to no longer need a Goku to protect it. So it fits that Goku would go away with the dragon balls; he was intrinsically part of them.
5) All the characters ended up in character-appropriate places. Yamcha traveling around with Puar like in the olden days, Krillen with Android 18, and even Piccolo in Hell (er, HFIL). Not that Piccolo would admit it, but I bet he likes being the guy who deals with the problems in Hell. He's well-suited to it, both in skills and temperament. We even got to see a post-Goku world, that was finally as it should be: with peace and happiness, no more threats, and martial arts simply for fun. And it's such a nice touch that Goku got to see that world.
Would I have done GT differently? In a couple places, sure. But it could have been far, far worse. Take a look at Super and you won't find any of the things I liked about GT.
😢😊
Lo
Woah surely there's something more important around you big dog
@@fallenabr7654Can someone not write a comment on something they’re passionate about? Talk about a party pooper.
I have to disagree with most of the points in here.
Let's start with 1. Dragon Ball moved away from these things for a reason. Reason was that it simply wasn't working anymore. If they wanted to bring back this era of DB, they should have done it slowly, with the start of GT being more like Z, but midways through the first few arcs it's becoming more and more like the original, till at the end it's really close to the olden DB days.
2, I actually agree with this, but I personally think SSJ4's design was kinda weird. I feel like they should have gone with either golden fur or just have SSJ4 have the red aura to begin with.
3, I also agree with this point as well.
4, The world never needed a Goku to protect it. Hell, Gohan would be able to protect it just fine. Goten and Trunks as well if they trained hard enough, plus they have Gotenks. The Z-Fighters? Also Goku was _never_ intrinsically a part of the Dragon Balls, he grew up with one, but he was _never_ part of it. He only joined the quest because Bulma walked up to him and he decided to help.
5, I _heavily_ disagree with this. Yamcha and Puar have long grown past the days of travelling around. Krillin and Android 18, I get, so I don't disagree there. Piccolo being in hell is somewhat fitting, but considering the good he's done, especially with him being Gohan's babysitter in early Z, I think he should have stayed in heaven. Also, I don't think a post-Goku world would be filled with peace and happiness with no more threats. Remember the Majin Buu saga? That thing would have happened _regardless_ if Goku was there or not, Kibito and Shin's appearence, heck, even Super's Future Trunks' version of the Buu Saga proved that. Goku ain't the cause for the problems in DB, and a post-Goku world wouldn't be as peaceful like that, I think it'd be harder for the Z-Warriors to fight. Oh well, at least it would be Gohan's time to shine.
Say what you will about Super, but at least it expanded the lore of Dragon Ball, adding in new universes, GoDs, heck even Ultra Instinct is theorized to be something _anyone_ can achieve, but it's super hard. The transformations might be a little lazy, but honestly, they make sense. SSJG is basically the ultimate act of selflessness (entrusting your heart into someone) and SSJB is the pinnacle of self control (you gotta control that Ki so it won't leak). Honestly I like these concepts far more than "A transformation suddenly makes me grow to my adult size", which was kinda dumb IMO.
@@L1z43vr Golden fur would look good but just be really weird and tacky, red actually makes the most sense as red = rage.

@@jermaineallen2879 He couldn't hold ssj3 for quite some time. He could hold ssj and presumably ssj2 with no difficultly. It was just that ssj3 was too draining and his younger body did not help
Nope, the sole reason for kid goku form was to appeal to young audience
@Chocolate Sandwich thats how most things work. Pretty sure the thought process was "goku and his audience has grown up, how do we make him viable for kids show" and then everything else worked around that idea
No they wanted a kid Saiyan, but Gohan and Goten were too old, and pan is a girl so she's irrelevant to the mostly young male audience. Turning Goku into a kid was the cheapest, easiest fix.
As someone who, like you, grew up loving Dragonball and Z (manga mostly), thanks for making this! Still haven't watched GT. Looking forward to your video on Super!
Watching GT with the ENG dub and watching GT with subs is a completely different experience, not only acting wise (krillin's death scene in the ENG dub is acted so bad it almost ruins it compared to the original) but the music especially, the SSJ4 transformation just flows so well with the OG score and the ENG one ruined it.
the disc box set has the option of english voices with the original soundtrack and it’s incredible
@@tylerwilkey13 That's a nice feature, but it doesn't fix the terrible 18's voice acting when Krillin dies 💀
I didn't find the acting in the English dub of GT bad for the most part. Sure, that specific scene you mentioned is mediocre (on 18's part at least, I think Krillin and 17 voice actors did a good job) but for the most part, I think it's pretty good, certainly better than the Z dub. What is awful though is the dialogues. For example, in this scene you mentioned, Krillin in the English dub before dying said "You resented Dr Gero because he gave you human emotions". Seriously ? Him and 18 were humans before Gero "reconstructed" (term used in the japanese version of this scene) them. Also, 17 kills Krillin because he convinced him to renounce bringing back 18 on his side but in the japanese version, it's because he annoyed him by trying to reason with him. This scene is one example but there are lots of others. And even if you watch GT English dub with the original music, it won't fix the dialogue and it would arguably be worse than watching it with the Menza score (which btw, is the only English dub exclusive soundtrack that I dislike heavily, I still love Faulconer Productions score, I like some of the movies scores and I'm fine with Nathan Johnson Z score). Because the English dub tone will clash with the original Japanese version tone quite a lot (just like with the Z dub). The mediocre sound mixing of the English dub with Japanese music (with the music volume often being very low compared to the voices and SFX) and the bad sound quality of the music in the last 12 episodes doesn't help either.
Japanese dub is better but it uses the SAME MUSIC 24/7
I think all of DB in English is pure trash, only good thing is TFS re-dub. I'm from Brazil and grew up with the Brazilian dub, after watching super in Japanese now I can't stand the br dub, for me both of the dubs could be thrown in the trash can.
Thanks for this video. I saw GT as a teen when the internet started being able to host full episodes that could be streamed. I watched it all online. But its been years. I watched it in maybe 2006. I remember cool fights but don't remember the story. I think it's time I binge it all as it's finally on Crunchyroll and I just got the app (never watched anime much, I know lol)
20:21 the look of disgust mixed with genuine despair on his face made me laugh more than it should
Great video! :) GT is a strange one, for sure, but there were a lot of things I liked about it. The idea behind the Shadow Dragons is so good, having the unbalance brought by the team’s reliance on the Dragon Balls come back to haunt them. It gives the show’s namesake some more reverence too. Collecting the Dragon Balls and getting a wish was epic before. Now it seems like anyone in the show/manga can do it in an afternoon. Making it so the Dragon Balls can be corrupted if misused gives some more weight back to the idea of wishes.
Luud is actually a very fitting name for the series, Given Bulma (bloomers), Trunks, and BRA/Bulla and all the vegetable named Saiyans. It matches that scheme
This was so good thanks for the video man!

Considering Piccolo forgot he could enlarge himself in "Super Hero" movie, him forgetting black star balls makes perfect sense, especially when the fact that there was probably at least a century or more from the time of Kami and Demon King Piccolo being split
Nah that’s different piccolo forgot that he could enlarge because it is useless in battle against a stronger opponent and you just make yourself slower and a bigger target. With Cell max it just evened the playing field. The dragon balls tho is just lazy writing.
@@ChristSaves984 nah, my answer better

Here's a few questions about the Blackstar Dragon Balls...why didn't Kami/Piccolo just destroy them if they were so dangerous? And whats more, how is it that Bulma's dragon radar NEVER detected them? We see later on that they show up on the radar, so how is it that her radar missed them each and every time she was at the Lookout? Also how did Emperor Pilaf and his gang get up there in the first place? Wsan't it made clear early on that unless the Earth's Guardian allowed it that no man made vehicle could safely reach the Lookout? Also...How'd they even find these Blackstar Dragon balls in the first place? Lastly once they were regathered, why not go to a uninhabited planet and use the balls there to restore Goku to normal and kill two birds with one stone? The balls would be safely scattered across the galaxy and whats more there'd be little to no danger of anyone ever gathering them again.
You put more thought into it than Toriyama ever did. "Rules" like "no manmade vehicle can reach my domain as I am in control of every aspect of it" are very Journey to the West coded. They matter for the episode they are spoken in but otherwise don't exist.

So once upon a time, there was a show that ran for over a decade, well-beloved and known for a change of tone from its early days, with an ever-changing secondary cast while keeping its core people. Ran for well over 200 episodes, and the finale was well-received yet also heart-tugging . A short time later, fans were introduced to the follow-up show, focusing on only three of the prior cast, off in a brand new place and brand new situation. Started out even enough, but then they tried to make the after-show 'wacky' like the early seasons of the first show had been. And it tanked, running less than 1/8th of the time the original had.
Those shows were: MASH and AfterMASH. 251 versus 30 episodes, plus a failed pilot for Radar. So it didn't just happen to DB.
Sometimes, you just need to leave a tender surgeon or saiyan alone.

13:11 that is a very minut point. They rehashed Broly in Dragon Ball super Broly but nobody complains about that and I guarantee you that you love dragon ball super broly. So the idea that they reuse something is it inherently bad. That's just you having your own subjective bias on the matter. Especially when they open up hell so Goku can go fight but he be trapped in there while everybody runs amok on Earth. This was an intentional devised the plan unlike Janemba who just turned everything into jelly beans and the plot was just a mirror causation of Janemba sealing off the checking station.
They also brought back Frieza in Resurrection F so is that going to be a redundant thing to do? Broly too?
Dont forget cell
Brought him back for new movie (not the cell we know though)
The difference is that the examples you brought up with Super were either a good enough improvement over what was done originally or different enough to at least make the rehash mostly forgivable whereas GT's rehash was just lazy and was arguably worse than what went on in Fusion Reborn.
@@johnman8398 actually Broly was not an improvement but instead a downgrade because they made Vegeta IV more cowardly and jealous, they stripped Broly of his Legendary Super Saiyan Mythos, essentially the purpose of the movie was to create a cool fight and music. While I am all for that the film didn't add anything we hadn't already gotten from Dragon Ball Z Broly the Legendary Super Saiyan. Just like Trunks and his new transformation from the Goku black Saga Broly and his humanoid ozaru power just came out of nowhere with little to no explanation of how this transformation is done without blutz waves or a tail. To keep it short the rehashed the more and explained less.
Frieza is more forgivable. However how they tried to start off the whole Goku and Vegeta really fell off and defined the series. They tried to make it seem like Vegeta and Goku were somewhat Polar Opposites of each other in a martial arts sense but here we have Vegeta pulling the same mistake as Goku which ultimately allowed planet Earth to die by frieza's hands. This is a mistake that gets carried out all the way even into the moro saga where he just holds a conversation with him instead of finishing him off. At least Dragon Ball GT didn't actively do disservice to vegeta. It was better for him to not be shown as much instead of actively being disrespected by the writers. You know it's bad when they make a transformation based off of him getting beat up and lose. So literally they now make Vegeta desire to get beat up.
On another note they even try to create this thing where Goku and Vegeta should be trying to team up with each other but they dedicated the next sagas to them having solo battles and only teaming up against jiren in the end. Quite frankly this is a habit by Dragon Ball super to write things that can be taken out and not change a thing. Instead that amount of time can be used for expanding upon something else that can be written into something more useful for the series.
I'd argue that the rehash of Fusion Reborn was done better because they made the villains being released an intentional active part of their plans to carry out to destroy some goku. In the film they were just released on accident. On top of that the Super 17 Saga does a really amazing job and not wasting time showing off the powers of the villains and achieving that power as well. Basically the power demonstrated here was their ability to merge The Living World and after life together and because they were merged when the villains from Hell came to Earth and were killed again they could just come right back which showcased how drastically Android 17 and cyborg-17 affected the macrocosm and its balance of life and death via their raw power instead of sealing off the checking station. GT likes to make things come full circle instead of Just Happening as a result of somebody's passive power.

I like GT quite a lot, I really enjoyed the Baby portion of the story and going back to the primal roots of the Saiyans with SS4 was a great idea considering the story the form was introduced in. While there are pretty bad arcs like the Black Star Dragon Balls and Super 17 I do think the Baby arc is one of the best in DB it did Granolah before Granolah kind of. The Shadow Dragons were easily the best concept to end the series, but definitely fell flat with how much weaker most of the Dragons were compared to Goku, but I really enjoyed the whole dynamic of Goku and Nuova.
8:45 "Peoples who fought against Frieza, Cell and Majin Buu..." Goku with a kid body? Pan hadn't been born and Trunks just fought against Buu, who are these people you talk about?
Trunks was only 8 years old, Goku fought almost all the time, Pan wasn't even conceived. That guy hate DBGT.
I’m really enjoying this video did you make one for Super?
Dragon Ball GT is so nostalgic for me at this point.
With the catfish guy, assuming he could predict earthquakes hours or even days ahead of time, he could plan all of his visits accordingly. He could be more patient with the villagers and spend more time harassing them if an earthquake isn't due for another few minutes, and then lose his temper like an animal when one was seconds away. It adds to the fear the villagers had of him.
GT was my first exposure to dragon ball ever and I love it so much.
And it enhanced the experience of watching the original series later on too.
The original direction for GT was to take the franchise back to it's roots and make it more adventure focused like DB. After seeing how low the tv ratings were, plans for later episodes were scrapped and they decided to make it more action focused like DBZ, that's why the tone changes around episode 16.
The Shadow Dragon saga was written once it was clear the series would not be renewed for another season, so it was written to be an ending for the franchise as a whole.
All these last minute changes is probably why there are so many issues with the pacing and animation.
