- Israel has approved an offensive against Lebanon after increased cross-border fire, raising concerns that the Gaza conflict could spread to the broader Middle East. This decision followed Hezbollah's release of drone footage showing parts of Israel, causing alarm in Haifa. Foreign Minister Israel Katz said Israel is close to changing its approach toward Hezbollah and Lebanon, warning of severe consequences if a full-scale war happens. This comes after the IDF killed a senior Hezbollah commander in Lebanon, escalating the conflict. The U.S. is working to calm the situation and prevent a wider war.

what you mean? every bomb the israelis drop has a big ass "made in the usa" stamp on it. they're in. israel doesn't exist without the US standing up for it despite it's incomparable criminality. If the US isn't on the ground, actively engaging the Russians in Ukraine, despite Ukraine ceremoniously having it's ass beat, it's hard to imagine a scenario which warrants sending infantry to Israel to fight Hesbollah. Granted, that damned "special relationship," and all. It's also hard for me to imagine Biden allowing the state of Israel to cave-in. If he sees the relatively localized threat of Hesbollah being worth the tax on Americans to put their lives up like that on behalf of Israel, in the case that Israel straights have turned that dire, then it's also hard for me to envision him not sending in the cavalry. I def have higher reservations about Trump pulling the trigger on combat boot on the ground, particularly, in the ground in a sovereign country which their ally is invading's. I also don't think anyone in elevated -positions of power in Israel want American support to materialize in anything beyond supplying Israel their stockpiles, and providing diplomatic cover internationally. America is also depraved, but not so depraved that it wont fuck up Israel's entire military doctrine having the "goody two shoes" Uncle Sam on the same field of battle as them.

Israel has to defend their civilians and their country's future. Hamas with their constant attacks & stated goals, has finally become an existential threat for Israel. That's why they want it to be destroyed and if that requires unavoidable collateral damage to civilian lives, then so be it, they brought it on themselves. This is the only language Palestinians understand.

1. You mention internal fractions in Israeli society. I wouldn't completely dismiss it, there is a significant internal divide that might lead to an internal collapse eventually.
